Web Forms :: How To Access Values Of Controls Defined In A User Control
Dec 1, 2010
I am developing an application in which I have to use a User Control.I have created a user control in which I am using
- A Label (whose text will be dynamic)
- 3 Textboxes (whose values will be also dynamic).
So far everything is working fine. Now I used this user control in a aspx page and at the page_load i have to loop thru all the instance of this user control and assign values to them and here the problem begins. The values are not being assigned to the controls.
Here is the code which i have written to loop thru User Control instances and assign values to them.
i created a user control and place a button on it.i drag dropped the user control on a aspx page and wrote the grid load and button clicks in the
user control.now i got a requirement to use the same user control grid and button to again use on the same page.however the data populated will be different and the button click functionality will be different.how can i reload the different data on the second grid as i had already wrote the code in the first one
i create a composite control as can be seen in code below, and add this control to webform, assign FormView1 to the HeaderControlName property, Run the page, the system will generate parse error message : Cannot create an object of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.FormView' from its string representation 'FormView1' for the 'HeaderControlName' property. However, if i don't assign FormView1 in design screen and manually (through coding) assign FormView1 to the custom control on init, it works as expected.
custom control public class CmdTest : CompositeControl { public virtual FormView HeaderControlName { get { object oObject = ViewState["HeaderControlName"]; return (oObject == null) ? null : (FormView)oObject; } set { ViewState["HeaderControlName"] = value; } } protected override void CreateChildControls( { Controls.Clear(); Button xx = new Button(); Controls.Add(xx); } } webpage.aspx (assign FormView1 in design time, it will generate error) <Utils:CmdTest ID="CmdTest1" runat="server" HeaderControlName="FormView1" /> webpage.aspx (didn't assign FormView1 in ASPX, but assign it on Init Code, it works) <Utils:CmdTest ID="CmdTest1" runat="server" oninit="CmdTest1_Init" /> Webpage.aspx.cs protected void BsCmdTest1_Init(object sender, EventArgs e) { CmdTest1.HeaderControlName = FormView1; }
I have a database that tells me what contract is in effect on specific streets but between mile marker values.
For example, Main Street is 10 miles long. Contract ABC123 applies to miles 0 - 4.9, and contract 999555 applies to miles 5-10.
My user will enter the street name and mile value into textboxes, and the results will be displayed in a gridview.
Getting the Street name portion of the query is working fine, it is this mile value that is confusing me.
In my table I have StreetName for the name of the street, and for the mile range of the street the table has BegMile (beginning value) and EndMile (ending value).
How do I get the correct answer back when my user is entering a value between BegMile and EndMile?
I have a base user control (inherited from System.Web.UI.UserControl)
public delegate void MyEventHandler(object sender, MyEventArgs e); public event MyEventHandler ControlLoaded; //Fire the event from here protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) { MyEventArgs cmdEventArgs = new MyEventArgs("somearg"); ControlLoaded(this, cmdEventArgs); }
I have several controls that are derived from this base user control.
On the host ASPX page, I need to subscribe to the ControlLoaded event.
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //subscribe to the event //This line DOES NOT WORK as I cannot attach event to a base control - It needs an instance of the user control which I don't have BaseUserControl.ControlLoaded += new MyEventHandler(ControlLoaded); } private void ControlLoaded(object sender, MyEventArgs e) { // some control has been loaded }
I'd made a WebUserControl called Matrix, this UC inherits from the Gridview control. The Matrix User Control has 9 properties, which of 3 properties are the DataSources DataTables). The 3 DataSources are the RowSource, ColumnSource and DataSource. Together they form an gridview with labels (name of column) at the header of each column, a abel (name of row) at each first cell of a row and rest of the cells on each row are checkboxes. This forms a kind of Matrix, that's why I named it so.
I drag the Matrix User Control on a new .aspx page, for example Index.aspx. In the Page_Load event I set the 3 DataSources and DataBind the Matrix Control. Then the Matrix is build up correctly. The user can now edit the gridview by checking or unchecking the checkboxes. I also have a 'Save' button on the page which has an ID 'cmdSave' to save the changes. What I wanna do is: I want to have a Method within the User Control which gives me back a list of checkboxes which are checked. But when the OnClick event of the cmdSave button is fired, the data of the User Control is null/empty. And how do I get the changedHow can I fix this and build a method which gives me a list of checked checkboxes? If not everything is explained clearcly,
I using Masterpages and user defined controls, on my user defined control I added a CalenderExtender, but I can get it to work, when I set the TargetControlID="txtPSD" the name of my textbox it vanishes from the screen. Question is am I putting it in the wrong place??? see the bold code below, TargetControlID error is name contains uppercase lettter that are not allowed.
I have a public property defined in code behind of a user control. I want to toggle visibility of controls in the markup based on the property's value.
I'm bounding data to repeater control by using SqlDataSource Control
bounded data is something like this:
attributeid attributename 1 color 2 size
How can I get access to attributeid values in Repeater control's ItemDataBound event handler,
I tried to use DataBinder.GetPropertyValue(container,"attribuetid"), but I can't set container, am I doing right, or maybe I should use another approach.
I Have a webpage named "Test.aspx" and a web user control named "TestWebContro.ascx",..
i have a "Linkbutton" on "TestWebContro.ascx" and "Label" on "Test.aspx",.. now my query is how can we change the text value of "label" on the click event of "LinkButton",...
I wanted to know if we can pass values from Parent page (in this case from Default.aspx page) to the user control and maintain those values on subsequent "Add/Load" of user control.
So in short, if I click the "Add" button it loads my "webusercontrol" and also I am able to pass my default.aspx dropdownlist value to this dynamically loaded user control and assign it to a "Label or Textbox" which resides in my "webusercontrol", now the problem is that the value doesn't persists! What I meant is , when I click "Add" button again the "webusercontrol" gets loaded again perfectly but now all my "Label's" in webusercontrol has the new selected value from the default.aspx dropdownlist.
So say for instance I have a Dropdownlist in Default.aspx page with Values "Apple, BlackBerry, Nokia" and initial value to be passed is "Apple", I click the "Add" button, now my "Label" inside webusercontrol has the value "Apple", perfect! Next when I click "Add" button again and select a different value to be passed this time say "BlackBerry" now I have 2 webusercontrol loaded on the page, so that means I have 2 "Labels" with different ID's, but now my first Label initially had the value "Apple" because that's what I had passed and now when I passed the value "Blackberry" both the labels of my webusercontrol has the value "BlackBerry" instead of one being "Apple" and another "BlackBerry"
Is there a way to resolve this issue? may be Dictionary List?
I'm working on a user control that renders couple nested divs (a rounded corner box to be frank). This is a templated user control, which means that user can put any control he wants into the header, body or footer of this box. Everything is working fine, except the fact that server-side controls can't be retrived from my box. Take a look at this code:
[Code]....
Now codebehind of that control:
[Code]....
I have cut out all the unimportant stuff. Now when I use this control:
[Code]....
I want to access controls in page codebehind file (on Page Load): LiteralNewses.Text=""; but compiler returns an error that LiteralNewses doesn't exist. Also FindControl method can't find this literal.Any tips on what's wrong with this code? According to MSDN, setting TemplateInstance to Single ensures that controls from template will be accessible but not in my case...
I want to use a couple of instances of the same control on a page. The user control is intended to display a list of records in a repeater. The aim is that the second control will show a list excluding the IDs in the first control The control has a number of public properties, including IDsInThisList, and IDstoExclude. The query will exclude the IDs in the second property.
What I would like to do is get the record IDs from the first instance of the control (IDsInThisList), and pass them to the second contro as the IDsToExclude.
I have a test page where I am setting the properties of the controls in code. As you might guess, it's not working! The first control displays the top 3 items, as desired, but the second display the records 1-7, rather than records 4-10 because it is not receiving the IDstoExclude from the first control When I response write the IDstoExclude from the first control in my testpage, the string is empty. (if I do it from within the control, it shows the IDs)
How can I get the controls to fire in order and pass values to each other?
Screen grab of test page + uc and test page code attached
I am developing a site that has a page and several web controls.
Say i have webControl1.ascx, webControl2.ascx, webControl3.ascx, webControl4.ascx
I add these web cotnrols dynamically webControl1.ascx webControl2.ascx and some other times webControl3.ascx webControl4.ascx
Lets say webCotnrol1.ascx has an aspx button with ID="SaveArticle" and click event "MyClickEvent". If i press this button i am suppose to load webControl3.ascx webControl4.ascx but not webControl1.ascx webControl2.ascx.
The first problem is that "MyClickEvent" will never execute since the webControl1.ascx will never be loaded.
The second problem is that i tried to use FindControl("SaveArticle") but these does not work since the name is changed to something like "$articleControl$SaveArticle"
I think my problem is that i dont know how to hancle workflow.
I have a couple user controls that are loaded by a Select Case statement. However, in the behind code file for the main page that loads these controls, none of the asp controls show up in intellisense. I had a feeling it's because the controls are loaded conditionally. My question is what is the best way to solve this?
1) Load the controls and do a Select Case in the behind code to make them hidden or not.
2) Is there a way to say (psuedocode): LoadUserControl("UserControl1").Controls("tbTest").Text = ""
3) How can I pass a dataset to the User Control file?
I am trying to create a type of table on sql 2008. The following sql fails saying Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'AS'. what i am doing wrong as this looks fine to me.
but it is throwing as exception Object reference not set to an instance of an object. How can I access user control's gridview control from parent page?
How can I access a webform control from a Web User Control?
I have a web form with some textboxes and dropdownlists. I created a Web User Control with other controls (other textboxes) inside it. Now I need to call from the web control source code the values that the controls in my web page have. How do I do it?
I created a webpage names Default.aspx. In its code behind i defined another public class named Test. Test class is not accessible in other pages code behind although it is defined as public.
