Forms Data Controls :: Unable To Update Access Data Source

Jul 19, 2010

Here is the code for my page:

[Code]....

For some reason I seem to be unable to update my DB through the datasource. Is there anything obvious as to why this wouldn't be working?

I even added static values to the update string to see if this works but it still has an issue.

Forms Data Controls :: Develop A Custom Data-bound Control Which Will Contain, Few Text-boxes, Drop-down Lists And Labels?

Mar 24, 2010

I need to develop a custom data-bound control which will contain, few text-boxes, drop-down lists, labels, and other standard web-server controls. And, I want to be able to load this control from a web page on button click. When the user enters any data to any of its child controls, i should be able to save, and also retrieve when the data-bound control is loaded again. Also, the data in the child control should retain their value on postback. What approach should i follow?

Forms Data Controls :: Unable To Add Update And Delete Functionality?

Mar 16, 2011

Unable to add update and delete functionality to any data control using MS Visual Web developer Express and SQL server 2008. The advanced options in the data connection wizard remain disabled. I can display data OK.

I am however able to connect to an Access 2007 DB through the same page and get this functionality to work.

Data Controls :: Edit Update Delete In Nested Child GridView

Feb 4, 2014

I have been looking at the guide: [URL] ....

Is it possible to have an edit function, so you can edit the expanded records - fx if you want to add/correct information.

Adding a normal edit/delete button like on a normal gridview doesn't seem to work when it is nested.

Forms Data Controls :: Unable To Update Row Using Gridview Rowupdating Event

Jun 17, 2010

I am trying to update the row using gridview_rowupdating event but I am unable to update. I tried the code like this...

foreach (GridViewRow i in GridView1.Rows)
{
TextBox sname = i.FindControl("sname") as TextBox;
TextBox fname = i.FindControl("fname") as TextBox;
TextBox sex = i.FindControl("txtsex") as TextBox;
// Label lblpin1 = i.FindControl("lblpin") as Label;
TextBox tpin = i.FindControl("txtpin") as TextBox;
tpin.Enabled = true;
// lblpin1.Enabled = true;
string pinno;
pinno = Convert.ToString(tpin.Text.Trim());
conn2.Open();
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("update NRDetails2010 set SNAME='" + sname + "',FNAME='" + fname + "',SEX='" + sex + "' where pin='" + pinno.Trim() + "' and InstCode='" + Session["UId"] + "' and Sem='" + ddlsem.SelectedItem.Text + "' and scheme='"
+ ddlscheme.SelectedItem.Text.Trim() + "' ", conn2);
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
conn2.Close();
}

I am getting error at cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()

Here I am giving connection globally and opening in this event. In gridview, I am updating 3 fields depending on 4 conditions.

Forms Data Controls :: Looking For Clean Approach To Building Nested Datalist Or Nested Gridview

Jun 17, 2010

Is there a better, cleaner way to do this in ASP.NET 2.0?

An ASP.NET 2.0 page displays a datalist of records. Each record can have many dates, so the dates are in a nested gridview (I chose a gridview over a datalist here because we want to be able to delete a date and this is easier done in a gridview). The parent record can never be deleted.

The display works fine: the nested gridview gets its datasource during the parent datalist's OnItemDataBound event.

The problem: the nested gridview's delete function. The date gets deleted without a problem (handled in the OnRowDeleting event), but somehow the redisplay is untying all the other nested gridviews from their datasources. The delete does not appear to cause a page postback, so I don't know how the other nested gridviews are losing their datasources.

Data Controls :: Hide Child Nested GridView In Multilevel Nested GridView If No Data Or Empty

Dec 5, 2013

In Nested Grid, we get a '+' sign.   The problem is that '+' sign appears all times, even if there are no child records for that row. 1. Can we enable/disable OR Hide/Unhide '+' sign. depending on if child rows exits.2. OR alteast we can put some bgcolor indicating to user that this record do have child rows. Without any indicator user may feel quite annoying to click on '+' sign and nothing happens.

Forms Data Controls :: Get Row Data In SelectedIndexChanged Handler For Dropdown Nested In GridView

Aug 2, 2010

I have a GridView, with a DropDownList as one of the Columns. I can get the SelectedIndexChanged method to trigger - but I cannot figure out how to get other Data regarding which row this triggered on i.e. if I could get the value in the ID column (DocID below), that would be great. My code is a bit too long, so I am just posting snippets. In the *.aspx file I have:

[Code]....

In the *.aspx.cs File:

[Code]....

I am wondering if I can get the DocID from within StatusDropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged - so that I can make appropriate changes to the Database. For e.g. in the RowDataBound event, which I had a GridViewRowEventArgs e, I could easily do e.Row.DataItem - to get the DataItem, I am wondering if I get/do something similar in the SelectedIndexChanged method. (I would prefer this be not the GridView Row Index i.e. I would prefer the DataItem if possible.)

Forms Data Controls :: Getting Textbox Data From A Child Nested Gridview

Feb 23, 2010

I am having my first go at a nested gridview within a gridview. I have successfully loaded the data and it displays fine. Within the child gridview I have two textboxes that the customer can change. I also have an Save button. When the customer selects the save button the RowCommand for the child grid executes as it should. However I am unable to figure out how to access the two textboxes.

In the past I have got the row index from e.CommandArgument, established the correct GridViewRow using the gridview ID and the row index, and then used findcontrol to get the textbox

int index =
Convert.ToInt32(e.CommandArgument);
GridViewRow row = gvGridView.Rows[index];
TextBox txtName = row.FindControl("txtName")
as TextBox;

But when working within the Child GridView RowCommand event I am unable to figure out how to gain access to the textbox. The child gridview is not recognized.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Bind Nested GridViews To Multiple Active Result Sets Data

Oct 7, 2010

I have a complicated report that nests six deep and so really hits the database hard. I want to use SqlDataReaders NOT DataAdapters and DataSets because I don't want big tables in memory.

MARS can get me the data fast, all from the one connection. But all the examples show it binding to a treeview.

I want to bind it to nested GridViews (six deep!).

Any examples of MARS binding to nested gridview/list/repeater controls of any kind?

Forms Data Controls :: Using A Nested Listview To Display A Seperate Grid For Each Group Of Data Returned From Db Query

Jan 13, 2011

I am using a nested listview to display a seperate grid for each group of data returned from my db query. To get this working, I have adapted a piece of code to group the data prior to it being bound:

[Code]....

I am then using the following html markup:

[Code]....

[Code]....

This works as I want it to however some of the fields within the nested table need to be formatted as currency so I am trying to use Eval and {0:c} to do this however the moment I use Eval, the data items cannot be found

DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRow' does not contain a property with the name '0'.

Forms Data Controls :: Dropdown Lists And Select All?

Sep 25, 2010

I have a number of dropdown lists which are populated from a database. They load depending on what the previous dropdown selection was so for example if the system was car based and I had chosen Ford then the next dropdown list would populate all cars made only by Ford. What I'm wanting to do is add a select all to one of the dropdown lists. Does anyone know how this would be done?

Forms Data Controls :: Two Dropdown Lists That Populate Gridview?

Jul 22, 2010

I have 2 drop downlists 1 gets the User hits my sql database and pulls back all my users in the database. I have post back on. The second drop down brings back all the account numbers for the user that is selected in the first drop downlist I have that post back on also.

My gridview then uses those 2 dropdownlists to populate for that user and that account number selected.

Now for the problem.

User Albert is in the drop down when page is loaded because its sorts by name the first account number for albert is in the 2nd drop down and the gridview works on page load for albert and account number 1 i can select account number 2 and the gridview changes.

I then switch user to Bill and it populates the 2nd drop down with Bill's account numbers however my gridview at this point is still showing alberts account information. I have to take drop down 2 and select another account say account 2 then my gridview displays bill's account 2 information i can then switch back to account 1 for bill and see that account information.

What do I need to do so that my gridview will populate when the first dropdown is changed to match the 2 new values?

Here is my code

[Code]....

Forms Data Controls :: Using Asp:dropdown Lists To Filter Gridview

Oct 4, 2010

I'm trying to create a page with multiple fields to be used as parameters for filtering a GridView. I'm using a combination of two asp:dropdown lists and two check boxes. When I select a value in one ddl, I want to clear the value in the other ddl. I was trying to use the event "onTextChanged" but that doesn't seem to fire off on the client side and I cannot seem to find any event for an asp:ddl or asp:checkbox or asp:radio button that fires off on the client side.

Are there events, like onClientClick for asp:button, that fire on the client side for these controls when a selected value is changed or when the user clicks on them? or do I need to use html controls instead?

Forms Data Controls :: Paged Sortable Lists And Efficiency?

Jan 13, 2010

I need to make a large Ebay-style list of listings (think of the page that comes up when you search for something in Ebay, with a photo, title, one-line description, price, that's paged, and sortable). My limited experience with DataGrids in the past always resulted in what felt like a sluggish page to me, but I'm not sure if it would have been faster if I had pieced it together with a data reader instead.So I'm wondering before I even get started, what is the fastest / most efficient way to retrieve and manage this data.Is it more efficient at runtime to use a DataGrid, or to write the paging and sorting in more manually and use a DataReader, or another way?Ebay manages to get thousands of listings to display very quickly, but they've obviously got a lot of manpower to squeeze every last bit of performance they can out of the site, and good high-powered servers.
