There is a gridview in my website pulling data from sqlserver2005 . Now i want to update my website after every 5 min so that it can pull fresh data from sql. I know the basic idea that it can be done by using timer. But i don't know how to implement it?
View 5 RepliesVS2010 ( Vb.net ).I have a masterpage that contains a gridview, giving stats and information on client files sent to us. This gridview is updated by means of a timer control every 10 seconds. In my grid I have an image field, to display either a tick .. if everything is ok or a cross for any problems.When the timer control timer event forces a gridview databind every 10 seconds.When the page first loads, i get the default red Cross in the gridview imagefield, however when the timer loops forces a 'databind' I lose the redCross and it is replaced with the default image control ( as if no url is set ) . Then I get a server 404 error.I am using the OnDataBound event to fire my vb sub. I have commented out evertything just to get a solid starting point but im still getting errors.

I want to create a page with a stopwatch. I have a start button and I have a starttime in my model. Now I want to display the running timer in my view and it should reflect the starttime from my model. How do I update the timer with my starttime from my view right after I have pressed the startbutton, and how do I get it to update each second? Do I need to use jQuery for the update?
View 4 RepliesGOAL: on a web page (vb.net) content in a placeholder will refresh with a different .ascx (user control) every 30 seconds (rotating 3 in total) and of course i dont want to refresh the whole page, just the placeholder.
I'm new at AJAX (that's my first problem - lol)
I set the timer up to call a function, but not sure how to go about refreshing the placeholder with a different ascx file. I'm sure i'll be using UpdatePanel to do this, but haven't been able to figure this out. Easy to replace a value in a label using AsyncPostBack trigger, but nothing on how to achieve this.
I m facing problem updating a method which shows the count on master page. That method is bind to treeview control.Whenever a data is saved count is incremented to one. but method gets refreshed only when there is a postback. I want it to be updated after every few seconds or whenver there is data saved. there is pretty gud solution with custom ajax that is with json. But that is not possible with exiting solution.i have to redesign the complete treeview structure in html. And with timer control of ajax whole page gets refreshed.

So I would NOT be calling FillDataGridView() from Timer1_Tick.My question is: what do I have to add inside Timer1_Tick so that it will refresh my DataGridView (the one with the templates)
In my site, I am using an updatepanel and a timer to refresh gridview.
It may not be a direct link with DD, but I would like to know whether there is a way to stop the timer while the users are in Edit mode.
After the user enters some data in the Grid and if the timer ticks before updating the data, all information is gone.
I've a GridView bound to an object data source which gets data from a remote server. The GridView is inside an AJAX UpdatePanel. For each GridView row, I have a status data item for a person's status(like busy, free, etc.) and I need to show a running timer since a person has been in the current status. Different persons can be in different status at different times and so running timer for each person needs to be different and should be reset when a person changes status. Is it possible to show such a running timer for a cell in each row of a GridView and manipulate it differently i.e. start, stop and reset each instance individually?

I'm searching for an example with an client timer that ticks synchronous with an server timer. Also there must be a button on the client side which can reset the server timer to an default value, and with this it also resets the client timer ofcourse. I tried it myself but it seems that there is some postback delay which makes it impossible for me to make it atleast look like it goes synchronous.
I hope somebody got an example for me, the button part is really important because by pressing that button the delay comes.

View 2 RepliesI have an asp.net page with a gridview control on it but I want to allow the user to also be able to update the selected row from a series of textboxes. I simply need the code for a button click event to do this.
button is called button1
textbox is called textbox1
gridview control is named gridview1
record to be modified is in 3rd column called PlayerName
The row to be edited will always be the only record shown and will always be selected by code I've already written. I will also need to know if the record must be set to edit mode to make the button click code work.
I'm just wondering if anyone has come across a good, easy method for updating a SQL Server 2000 DB table using the edit feature in GridView. The catch here is that I need it to encrypt, send to database, then decrypt when the page calls it to be displayed. I have successfully implemented an insert method using FormView with encryption. For some reason, I just can't seem to figure out the edit/update.

I have a gridview based on a sqldatasource that has some colums from which two colums showing the data of two fields: field1 and field2. field1 is an ID which should not be updated and therefore it is readonly=true. The sql-query from the sqldatasource is:
SelectCommand="SELECT field1, field2 from anyView"
What I want is, that when a row is updated, then the value from field1 should be copied to field2 The update-query is:
UpdateCommand="UPDATE myTable SET field2=@field2 WHERE field1=@field1"
My idea was, that the @field2 paramter gets the value from the query string out of field1:

But this does not work. Is there an easy way to copy the data from field1 to field2 when updating the row? In addition, is this possible, even if field2 ist not shown in the gridview (i.e. field2 is selected in the query but is not a field in the gridview but should be updated with value of field1).
I have a web page with a gridview & formview (master/detail relationship) combo. On page load the gridview shows all records from a SQL table. On my page I have a button that when clicked shows the formview in Insert mode to allow users to add a new record to the data. I have also added a column to my gridview that has a link. When a user clicks this link it hides the gridview and shows the formview in edit mode with the detail from the record selected from the gridview.
In my formview I am using a listbox control to allow users to select multiple values. The choices in the listbox are populated by a SQL data table. I have successfully written code to post the selected listbox values to my SQL data field during Insert. When the user selects a record to edit I have code in the databound event to select values in the listbox from the choices based on the value in the sql data field. This works as well. My problem is that I cannot figure out the correct code to update my SqL data when a user is editing the record and makes changes to the selected listbox value. I have included my design code for my listbox in my formview edittemplate and also my behind code that I have attempted.

I'm using a DetailsView object to present a record from a database in table format. I'm actually using and ObjectSource object as the data source for the details view. In the object I am using as the source for the ObjectSource, I have paired properties that hold decimals. This is, I have a property called Year1 and another property called Year1Change. This for years 1 to six. The values from the Year1 properties are in a cell, whereas the change values are bound to texboxes. The code for the frontend is the following:

Now, as you can see in the tbYr2RtCh textbox, I have an OnTextChanged property to call an event handler. This is because I want to do two things when the text changes. The first one is to make the font in the textbox bold if the value it holds is different from the Year2 property. The second one is to change the text on tbYr2RevCh to adjust the revenue for the percentage increase in the rate. The problem I have is that I cannot access the object that is the source for the data and make those changes directly in the object, instead of having to update the database. I don't want to update the database until the client says so, but the changes should be calculated immediately. I thought about creating an method in the object that I could specify in the ObjectDataSource as the update method, but I'm still not sure how to go about it.
I'm using ADO.Net code to access and update the data from the database. I'm using GridView for presentation. I wish to preserve old values of all the columns while updaing the records.
I'm using Code behind and not d Data Source controls. I wish to list the old records once record is updated.
