Forms Data Controls :: Validation Focus During Updating Row Data?

I hope someone could clear up my confusion on how this gridview works.
Scenario: We are utilizing edit template within the gridview linked to a validation summary.
Question:How do I give the validation summary focus when a user incorrectly "updates" information within the gridview.
I have tried placing:

Inside the an row updating subroutine with breakpoints but the code is never executed.
I am using one datalist control for uploading multiple images.I hv used one Asp:FileUplaod Control and one button in one itemtemplate.I am using reqired field validator and regular expression validator for file upload cntrl I am assigning validation group for both of them on ItemDataBound event of my datalist so that each upload cntrl hv same validaton group as required field and regular expression validator.Now what i want to do is - i want to show my error message in validation summary which is right at the top of the page.I want one know how to write javascript that will assign validation group of my control in datalist on which i click ?
Currently I'm designing a web page which will be used for touch screen device. In my gridView it got one button ItemField column so when this button is clicked it will update another column value. So if I got more than 30 records and I want to update the last record I need to scroll down the page to the end and do update. Up to here everything is fine. But the problem is after I have successfully updated the last record; the page will refresh and back to the first record again. So when user wants to view record which they updated they got to scroll down and check. So I just want to know is there any way that allow me to set focus on the updated record. So each time user done update they can straight a way check the result and no need to scroll down.Cos this will be very troublesome for them.
I got think of using Paging, but the page number size is too small ,I don't think it is good to use on touch screen device.
Is it possible to do client side validation on a detailsview (insert or edit) without using validation controls? I.E. somehow capture the onClientClick event of the autogenerated Insert/Update link buttons to call my javascript function?
I have an asp.net page with a gridview control on it but I want to allow the user to also be able to update the selected row from a series of textboxes. I simply need the code for a button click event to do this.
button is called button1 textbox is called textbox1 gridview control is named gridview1 record to be modified is in 3rd column called PlayerName
The row to be edited will always be the only record shown and will always be selected by code I've already written. I will also need to know if the record must be set to edit mode to make the button click code work.
I'm just wondering if anyone has come across a good, easy method for updating a SQL Server 2000 DB table using the edit feature in GridView. The catch here is that I need it to encrypt, send to database, then decrypt when the page calls it to be displayed. I have successfully implemented an insert method using FormView with encryption. For some reason, I just can't seem to figure out the edit/update.
I am making a message module in asp.net with database of sql. i have made a gridview and enabled selecting. and a form view is synchorised with grid view on selecting. i am writing update sql but could not get a way to take data on Gridview or Formview to compare the record in sql database.
I have a gridview based on a sqldatasource that has some colums from which two colums showing the data of two fields: field1 and field2. field1 is an ID which should not be updated and therefore it is readonly=true. The sql-query from the sqldatasource is:
SelectCommand="SELECT field1, field2 from anyView"
What I want is, that when a row is updated, then the value from field1 should be copied to field2 The update-query is:
UpdateCommand="UPDATE myTable SET field2=@field2 WHERE field1=@field1"
My idea was, that the @field2 paramter gets the value from the query string out of field1:
But this does not work. Is there an easy way to copy the data from field1 to field2 when updating the row? In addition, is this possible, even if field2 ist not shown in the gridview (i.e. field2 is selected in the query but is not a field in the gridview but should be updated with value of field1).
I have a web page with a gridview & formview (master/detail relationship) combo. On page load the gridview shows all records from a SQL table. On my page I have a button that when clicked shows the formview in Insert mode to allow users to add a new record to the data. I have also added a column to my gridview that has a link. When a user clicks this link it hides the gridview and shows the formview in edit mode with the detail from the record selected from the gridview.
In my formview I am using a listbox control to allow users to select multiple values. The choices in the listbox are populated by a SQL data table. I have successfully written code to post the selected listbox values to my SQL data field during Insert. When the user selects a record to edit I have code in the databound event to select values in the listbox from the choices based on the value in the sql data field. This works as well. My problem is that I cannot figure out the correct code to update my SqL data when a user is editing the record and makes changes to the selected listbox value. I have included my design code for my listbox in my formview edittemplate and also my behind code that I have attempted.
I'm using a DetailsView object to present a record from a database in table format. I'm actually using and ObjectSource object as the data source for the details view. In the object I am using as the source for the ObjectSource, I have paired properties that hold decimals. This is, I have a property called Year1 and another property called Year1Change. This for years 1 to six. The values from the Year1 properties are in a cell, whereas the change values are bound to texboxes. The code for the frontend is the following:

Now, as you can see in the tbYr2RtCh textbox, I have an OnTextChanged property to call an event handler. This is because I want to do two things when the text changes. The first one is to make the font in the textbox bold if the value it holds is different from the Year2 property. The second one is to change the text on tbYr2RevCh to adjust the revenue for the percentage increase in the rate. The problem I have is that I cannot access the object that is the source for the data and make those changes directly in the object, instead of having to update the database. I don't want to update the database until the client says so, but the changes should be calculated immediately. I thought about creating an method in the object that I could specify in the ObjectDataSource as the update method, but I'm still not sure how to go about it.
I'm using ADO.Net code to access and update the data from the database. I'm using GridView for presentation. I wish to preserve old values of all the columns while updaing the records.
I'm using Code behind and not d Data Source controls. I wish to list the old records once record is updated.
I have created a async search of a gridview, where the displayed data only shows items that match whatever is typed into the text box. After i type the search the grid refreshes the results, but the focus goes away from the textbox itself, which gets really annoying. is there any way to keep the focus on it?
how to focus on grid Row while editing , i mean preserve position after clicking editing or updating i have gridview of 5000 rows i don t want to scroll up or down after editing or updating, i want to return to the same row to make sure that this row is updating
would like to build a chart that will focus on the point plot. which mean every first point index is plotted will show in the chart as more and more chart plotted those point already been plotted will move to the back of the chart so the user only see the latest point is plot in the chart,anyone try this before in mschart ? can we add scrollbar, slide show or something for user to view the past plotted chart ?
I have created a simple application to edit data in an access database using gridview but its not working , the results are shown correctly , but when i click update nothing happens..
i have here my codes in updating data or content from the textboxes.. but instead of updating the new input data, the codes trying to get the current text from the database or the original texts ...
