like I have 10 rows in gridview, I want to show all the rows in editable mode.
Note: Code is taken from this tutorial [URL] I currently have an editable gridview with only some columns editable by the user. In the background I want to record the time/date they have saved the data to the grid. This column 'Time' is not bound to the grid. Is there anyway I can still include this update when rebinding the newly edited data?
I'm also having a problem saving the updated data of my column ActivityTotal. I've been debugging that and following the variable, and it holds the correct value, but just doesnt seem to update. I am providing the codes below for both my gridview and the cs behind and would be grateful if someone could take a look, I assume it's a sort of minor sql issue on my part.

I am only able to select one row at a time to edit (using the "Edit" button for that row, followed by "Update" when I am finished. I would like to turn on edit for all rows at the same time or for a group of rows and then have one "Update" button to press when I am done with all editing, much as in a spreadsheet where you are not restricted to a single row before you press "Save."
View 5 RepliesI have the need to allow a user to "tab through" making edits on a gridview. There will be one editable column in the row data. The user should be able to hit tab and go to the next row to edit said column. I have not found any easy method to accomplish this task. I found a way to programmatically put a gridview into edit mode, but in testing the code below it works for only 1 row at a time.

I'm really struggling with this. How do I display my data with radio buttons in a detail view and bind it to my datasource like I've done with the textbox? The database values are int {yes = 1, no = 0, na = -1}. I want my user to be able to quickly update the radiobuttons instead.I'm working in C#.

We have a problem that in IE8 some of table rows (made by Reporting Services) are cut if compatibility mode of a browser is set to on (exactly a page is cut on bottom and left side and it is not visible). So we have to explain at every customer to disable compatibility mode. Does exist any way to display report page correctly even if a compatibility mode is on? Is this a bug?

Basic problem is UpdatePanel can only be applied to column level rater than row level. If I add updatepanel with in each column with updatemode as conditional, then the event associated to the drop down list was not able to update controls outside the column like enabling another dropdown box outside updatepanel within same row and add items to it.

I have a simple app I am messing around with its a basic Master/Details layout. The details panel is actually a tab panel and on one of the tab panels it has a GridView. Within that grid view it shows the "current" in database information with all cells as read only. I then have an add button that inserts a row into the GriView and allows the user to enter some information. The first item in my GridView is a DropDownList, which is populated from an ObjectDataSource. This drop down is basically my unique index and there can only be one selected value per GridView.
What is the best way to remove the values from the list that are already in the GridView? Do I just need to remove the data source and add a OnDataBinding method that iterates through the grid view and generates a valid list of values? I can't use a service method because if the user adds two rows they would have the option to insert duplicates description types.
I have an editable GridView and I would like to add dropdownlistbox for editable columns. Is there a way to do it? I want to bind the data also so the dropdownlistbox comes with values.

Currently I have the records being displayed in a Gridview, however this means that if the user needs to make multiple changes to the data that is being displayed then they would have to hit the edit and then update for each row. What I would like to be able to do is have them Edit whatever rows and columns they need to and then have them click update once. Is this possible, if yes then how?

I have 2 tables, call them stock and visit. Stock contains a list of standard products (code and description columns). Visit contains a list of products used during a visit (product description column amongst others). When a user adds a product to the visit table they can either select a standard product from the list or select a product code and amend the description, e.g. they could select "paint" and change the description to "blue paint". The new description will only be relevant in the Visit table. This all works fine.
I have an editable gridview which lists the products used during a visit. There is an Ajax control toolkit combo box in the EditItemTemplate which allows the user to select a different product. If the product exists in the Stock list then everything works
fine. If the user amended the description (e.g. changed "paint" to "blue paint" when they added the product to the Visit table I get the following error.
'ProductDescription' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.
Parameter name: value
I presume this is because the amended description won't exist in the standard list of products. How do I add the amended description to the combo box list? I've tried using the RowEditing event but can't reference the combo box in the EditItemTemplate.I think what I want is something along the lines of [Code]....

I have a gridview with bound fields and a templateField that receives data from a submit button which, depending upon the selected object, i.e. dropdown 1, 2, or 3, return a result set. The gridview also has a checkbox column which is used as a marker to determinie the rows to be added to and existing table. If a user selects multiple row, those rows are written to the database. Everything works.
Now, I need to add additional functionality to the gridview:
Upon selecting the checkbox, programmatically the accompanying row must become editable; for each row presented.
Deselected the checkbox, return the gridview row to a read-only state.
There are 14 columns, one of which is a dropdown which needs to maintain its default value.
I've got this page where I display a 3 level nested gridview. First gridview displays data, 2nd one displays data based on the 1st one's row and 3rd one displays data based on the 2nd gridview. All of this works perfectly, including the edit mode for the 3rd gridview.
The issue comes when I make each gridview collapsible, again, it works fine but when I click on "Edit" on the 3rd gridview all the grids collapse, I can then re-open them and the "edit mode" is still present and I can still save my updated data. But that collapsing thing is quite annoying. I based a lot of my code from this page: [URL] And I understand how I can fix my issue on a 2 level nested gridview, by simply adding the C# code:

This makes allows me to save the index and prevent it from collapsing when I'm editing. Unfortunately, because I'm actually editing the 3rd gridview, if I code:

That simply doesn't work because I get the error "GridView2 does not exist in the current context". I also tried adding it to the .designer.cs page, but that doesn't change anything and still doesn't work. I'm not at work atm, and hence cannot paste the entire code, however, would anyone still have any idea as to how I can fix that issue?
I am trying to write an app that has one gridview, but I change the select on my sql data source to show different information on the same grid. For example I start showing units, but when price is selected I reassign my select command from Select sales.[sales1] to Select (sales.[price] * sales.[sales1]) as sales1.
However, this is causing a problem that I cannot understand with the built-in edit functionality of gridview. Whenever I click on edit, all the data in my gridview reverts back to the original select and displays only units. Am I missing something? When I change my select command the only things I am changing are my gridview.datakeynames, sqlsource.selectcommand, and sqlsource.updatecommand. What do I need to add to make my gridview edit using the current selectcommand?
I am looking for a way in which to make a column in a GridView editable.
Currently i am looking into overriding the GridView so that the whole view is editable and then making all the column I do not want to be editable, read only.
I'm sure there is a better way, but I cant find it.
I have set up an editable GridView using the AutoGenerateEditButton property. When the Edit link generated is clicked I only get a small editable area, is there a way to customise this to show more text?
