Web Forms :: Getting A Computer Domain?

Jul 16, 2010

If I have a generic public asp.net website, I want to know who is visting my website (I know how to get that), but more importantly, I want to know what company the user is from (is this a microsoft employee viewing my website, or a Coca Cola employee viewing my site or is this person using a home computer to view my site). How can I determine the computers domain name? Hope this is making sense.

At most companies, I have seen the company name included as the "Full Computer Name" or the Domain value in "Computer name, domain and workgroup settings".

Top Level Domain From URL In C#

Jan 10, 2011

I am using C# and ASP.NET for this. We receive a lot of "strange" requests on our IIS 6.0 servers and I want to log and catalog these by domain. Eg. we get some strange requests like these:

[URL]

the latter three are kinda obvious, but I would like to sort them all into one as [URL] IS hosted on our servers. The rest isnt, sorry :-) how to retrieve [URL] from the above. Secondly I would like to match the m., wap., iphone etc into a group, but thats probarbly just a quick lookup in a list of mobile shortcuts. Could handcode this list for a start. But is regexp the answer here or is pure string manipulation the easiest way? I was thinking of "splitting" the URL string by "." and the look for item[0] and item[1]...

Check For A URL's Top - Level Domain In C#?

Sep 13, 2010

how do I fetch "fr" out of this? JUST "fr" actually what I am trying to do is change masterpages at runtime after detecting a visitor's country..Yes I can use the countryCode variable which is there in some other class but thot may be I can do it like this only..just wanted to try..logic basically is:-

if(its "fr")
{
//apply masterpage 1
}
if(its "in")
{
//apply masterpage 2
}

Is it possible ? What will be the right way anyway ? Making that class that contains CountryCode variable as a utility class and using the variable from there in my new class OR fetch this value "fr" or "in" off the URL ?? How do I do this ? Is it possible?

Networking - Obtaining Client Computer Name On Local Network In Javascript Web Application?

Jan 27, 2011

I have an asp.net (FW 3.5) web app that runs on an internal network. One specific page needs to "report" in to the web server that it is active and not locked up. I need to be able to run a script (or something) at the client to report the pc's computer name in that report. I cannot find a method that does this. I found several things that would report the WAN IP or host name, but this appears to all be for external facing sites.

The Trust Relationship Between The Primary Domain And The Trusted Domain Failed

Aug 3, 2010

We have a ASP.NET site that partially depends on forms authentication for login credentials, however the implementation of IPrincipal is completely custom.

But, when running the site on a particular server (which is somewhat semi-hardened when it comes to security), the app crashes when invoking IPrincipal.IsInRole() with the following messsage:

System.SystemException: The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed.

This indicates a communication error between the web-server and the DC, however since our application doesn't at all utilizes Windows authentication, I don't see why it needs to communicate with the DC.

This is my implementation:

[code]...

EDIT:

I was finally enable to reproduce this error on my dev-machine (i revoked my machine from the DC yesterday, but didn't reproduce it until today)

HttpContext.User is actually a WindowsPrincipal by default it seems, and the error in my code was that I only replace it with CustomPrincipal upon login. Hence, unathenticated users still get the WindowsPrincipal which then fails horribly if you have trust issues on your AD.

I tried changing the default principal by invoking this on appstart

AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy( PrincipalPolicy.NoPrincipal);

But this doesn't seem to kick in. How do I change the default Principal in ASP.NET?
