View 1 RepliesMy ISP recently has migrated my app to a new platform. The app has now to be parked in a root subfolder, say site1, rather than at the root.
The main page can still be accessed via [URL] is now located at /site1/default.aspx. Subfolder pages however cannot be accessed correctly anymore since the url includes now subfolder name "site1" ie
[URL]
instead of
[URL]
This of course breaks page referencing.
Despite multiple requests, I have not yet obtained an answer so far. Question: Is there a simple way to strip away string "site1" from the url, preferably at the web.config level? I know this can be done programmatically at the page level, to clean up page references (>30 pages). In addition, this could entail further compatibilty problems between the deployment version and the local development site.
We have a function which sends out a bunch of e-mails. The problem is that a HttpException is thrown on the server after a while.
I managed to find out the the solution is to increase the executionTimeout in web.config, but I only want this on one page, not the whole application.
Is there a way to set the executionTimeout configuration only on one page?

i am configured my local with virtual directory also. i open through local iis it is working fine .but if i run the application then i am getting error above.common thing s i have done are my application has 3 weconfigs in 3 folders and one main config. and i have taken individual authentications and authorisations in main config only. this is not a priblem .actually this problem will occur if we have webconfigs and each have permissions then we will get this right, no problem i seperated.

Is there a way to confige IIS to open a database(s) at server level and other application just reference the database handler(pointer)? For an example in Tomcat or Resin, we can specify a set of database souece in the configuration file so the Tomcat or Resin starts, these database will be opened. And rest of applications can reference these datasource handler/pointer in their individual application web.config files.

This is a general question and is not about any particular issue that I am facing right now.As configuration settings in the child level can override the ones in parent level,errors can occur when you have 2 web.config files one redefining configuration settings that you cannot override such as authentication or session state.Issue happens when you have authentication / session state set on the lower level web.config and also in higher level web.config. Is there any other configuration settings like these ?

Initially I deleted the virtual directory, created again, set the permission to anonymous, set the browse and execute permissions, no solution. Then after doing many trials, I found out the basic problem reading the error "not allowed by the security policy". In web configuration file if we set the security policy to Fully Trusted, then problem solved and application working fine. or Set the trust level to the main configuration file in he "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIGweb.config"

There are only two objects created initially with a new website "Default.aspx" and "web.config" file. I've made no changes and choose to view in browser and receive the following error:

View 1 RepliesUsing IIS 7.5, IIS_IUSRS is supposed to be the account to use. I get '401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials' error. If I add an EVERYONE account with Read, it works. But rather not have Everyone account. Any idea why IIS_IUSRS does not work? It has Read access. Anonymous Access=enabled. Specific User=IUSR As a side, on the Basic Settings... for the site, Test Settings button says 'ok-on Authenticate' but Authorization 'cannot verify access to path'.

Do I need to have the DNS record for FTP in the DNS server. This depends on if your customer wants people to FTP to [URL] or [URL]or [URL]. If they want [URL] then you'll need another entry in DNS. You just need to add a new alias record in DNS that resolves the same IP as www to ftp. Do I need to take any extra steps to configure same Domain name in IIS7 for Web site and FTP site. I would assume that as long as IIS is set to listen to all IP addresses you should be good to go. Can I configure the web site in IIS 7 as [URL] You want to force people who browse to the default name of [URL] to be redirected to [URL]? There seems to be an issue with the "Trust" level when executing within a "Cloud" environment. In order for the following app to work it needs a trust level of at least "Medium." This web app is developed using VB.NET 3.5, and Visual Studio 2008. The app works perfectly on my local sever but when deployed/published to the "Cloud" it returns the error: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I have added all 4 required values, ConsumerKey, ConsumerSecret, OAuthToken, and OAuthTokenSecret to the web.config file in the "appSettings" section of the "configuration"

If found that by going to [URL] and signing into the account that is using the application, then go to the "Settings" page, go to the bottom of the page and click on the "API" menu option. Once the API page appears you will clik on the button "2", Register An App. On the right side on the new page, you will see a button "View Your Applications." If you have previously registered your app, click this button, If not fill out the appliction for a new app. Now at the View your Applications page, select the app you want to get the authorization keys for where is says "Edit Details". Now click on the button to the right that says, "Application Detail." Here you will find your Consumer Key and your Consumer Secret Key. On the right side of this page you will see the menu option "My Access Token", click it and you will find your oauth_token and your oauth_token_secret keys! Not that you have all the keys, put them in the "appSettings" section of the web.config file. Add "Dim twConn As New TwitterVB2.TwitterAPI" at the top of the page.

This code works great in an enviornment that allows at least a "Medium" trust level. However it appears that many of the "new" hosting envrionments such as "Cloud Hosting" and others do not allow this trust level automatically!However if the trust level is less than "Medium" on your host you will likely receive the error message: "Twitter Returned: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed." If anyone has found a fix for this "Trust Level"
How can I test an application that I am publishing to a remote provider's IIS7 hosted site, with the VS2008 development server that is built in with VS2008 on an XP Machine?
My membership/roles work perfectly up on the remote host. On ths hosted IIS7 site when I try to access a secure directory it redirects to login, and I am able to login, however when I launch (debug - F5) from VS2008, it will provide that folder/resource, no questions asked. Same build, config, etc... nothing has changed.
I am running XP, and local IIS version installed is 5.1.
My guess is what is happening is that the new format required in the web.config is configured properly for IIS7 deployment, which is why it works remotely, but when running locally through VS2008/XP it is running with an older version on IIS and does not recoginize the new tags.
I am using C# and ASP.NET for this. We receive a lot of "strange" requests on our IIS 6.0 servers and I want to log and catalog these by domain. Eg. we get some strange requests like these:

the latter three are kinda obvious, but I would like to sort them all into one as [URL] IS hosted on our servers. The rest isnt, sorry :-) how to retrieve [URL] from the above. Secondly I would like to match the m., wap., iphone etc into a group, but thats probarbly just a quick lookup in a list of mobile shortcuts. Could handcode this list for a start. But is regexp the answer here or is pure string manipulation the easiest way? I was thinking of "splitting" the URL string by "." and the look for item[0] and item[1]...
i want to get the domain extention (at least i hope it is called this way) from the site name the user is currently on. so from [URL] it's co.uk and [URL] etc. especially the ones with the double name (like co.uk) gives me headaches.... EDIT as i understand from the comments, co.uk is not a top level domain? that makes life easier! EDIT new name (top level domain) in the title
View 4 RepliesI am developing a application where i am performing the Download/Upload using WebClient and BITS. i have a virtual directory in IIS6.0/7.0. i have to set the Authentication to the that directory(Id & Password). currently i m using basic IIS authentication in which we can pass id and password but using same user id and password we can login to server.
My requirement is that if someone happens to know the username / password, they shouldn't be able to do anything else than upload and download (ie, you should not be able to log in into the server using the username and password)
Is there is any way from we can set the ID and password on Directory level or any other alternative.
