Getting "cannot Copy Assembly" Errors When Trying To Build Website
Feb 25, 2010
I'm getting two of these errors when trying to build the full solution for our website. Here's the full text of the errors:
Error 91 Cannot copy assembly 'Emcom.DataAccess.dll' to file 'C:workevan-moor.com-trunk2007.evan-moor.comBinEmcom.DataAccess.dll'. Unable to add 'C:workevan-moor.com-developmentEmcom.DataAccessinDebugEmcom.DataAccess.dll' to the Web site. Unable to add file 'BinEmcom.DataAccess.dll'. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Error 92 Cannot copy assembly 'Emcom.DataAccess.Generated.dll' to file 'C:workevan-moor.com-trunk2007.evan-moor.comBinEmcom.DataAccess.Generated.dll'. I've done everything I can think of short of reinstalling Visual Studio to try and fix this and nothing works. One of my co-workers also gets these errors, but another one does not. I suspect one of us might have done a merge incorrectly to cause this given that it's referring to the development folder in here while I'm trying to build the solution of the trunk.
I've checked and double checked all the dlls, and the two projects referenced here and neither of them are using the development folder, which I suspected might have caused this. I also did a clean brand new checkout of our trunk, and still got these errors. Then I tried deleting all the .NET temporary files to solve it, and still no luck. I did a google search for this issue and found a Microsoft hotfix for the problem which involved replacing a dll - but that was for Visual Studio 2003, and I'm using 2008. The dll in question on my computer is two full versions newer than the replacement version they list in the hotfix, so I'm not sure it'd be a good idea to replace what I've got with what's mentioned there.
Short of reinstalling Visual Studio and reformatting my computer, I'm out of ideas. Reinstalling might do it, but reformatting would be too much work just to fix this bug.

Am using dynamic loading of dlls. Am using "Assembly.Load(AssemblyName)". But this looks for the dll in the path
"F:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 9.0Common7IDE"
I want to set it as local bin folder as it can automatically fetch from the local project. How do i do it.

I have a VS 2008 solution. I need to copy an existing .aspx page and re-name it to something else (need to make modifications to that newly copied page). But I keep getting compilation errors saying that duplicate text boxes exist. Can't I have control on different .aspx pages with the same name? How can I do this elegantly?

I have a solution which contains a website and various class libraries. The exists on the file system like so:
C:Projects MyWebsitedevMyWebsite.sln
C:ProjectsCoreMyClassLibrary1.csproj
C:ProjectsCoreMyClassLibrary2.csproj
I want to move the App.config file from MyClassLibrary1 project to the bin of the MyClassLibrary2. I want to do this on post build in VS or MSBuild using relative paths if possible. This way anybody checking out the projects will not have to modify any paths if they choose to locate the project in a different location.
I have already tried the following approaches but to no avail.
copy /Y "$(ProjectDir)App.config"
$(ProjectDir).. MyClassLibrary2$(OutDir) MyClassLibrary2.dll.config"

I figured I'd post here while I'm scouring the internet for a solution to my problem.
This code works:
[Code]....
My DataAccess method just uses the SQL statement and returns a dataset. If I comment out the repeater DataSource and DataBind lines, it will build successfully. And I know the dataTable has the information I want because I was able to step through and see it. If I leave in the DataSource and DataBind lines, I'm not even able to step through. I have no errors and no warnings, just build failed.
*EDIT* I apologize for the ugliness of this post, I don't know what happened. I changed the repeater to a DataGrid, and still got the Build Error without any errors. I went on anyway, came back, and now everything works fine. A little bug must've crawled in while I wasn't looking.

what exactly is the difference between build number and the revision number in assembly.cs file?
For instance the assembly version is 1.2.407.7890
Major = 1
Minor = 2
Build = 407
Version = 7890
Now when i make some change in the projects file and recompile it, only the version number changes. When does the build number changes?
In what scenario does the build number changes?
Also let me know what exactly is AssemblyFileVersion? How is it different from AssemblyVersion?

I have recently discovered that I am affected by this bug http://www.mail-archive.com/mono-bugs@lists.ximian.com/msg71515.html
Well,at http://www.mail-archive.com/mono-bugs@lists.ximian.com/msg71529.html they say the work around is to create a global policy assembly and redirect the assemblies that way since it is not read from the web.config.
How do you actually do what they describe there? There is a huge documentation gap in that area with Mono.Also,I can't just recompile the assembly to use the new Mono assembly versions because the assembly is closed source.(but it does work with Mono.)

We are Running Windows 7 or Windows 2008 using integrated pipeline (not classic) and we are Getting 404 Errors when mixing MVC with Website and / or WebApplication ProjectsHowever, this problem doesn't exist when I run off the web server locally in visual studio, only when I use IIS 7.5. Is there anything special you need to configure in IIS 7.5 in order for website and webapplication projects to use MVC? I wouldn't think so, but when I run mvcapplication on IIS 7.5

Hey. I'm going to finish read the book "Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 in C# 2008".
And I'm going rebuild my html gaming website (flash games website)
www.gamesff.com
In the future site, There are 3 main pages:
Homepage (Present all the New games etc...) Category Page (There are 9 games categories , it's present the games of each category)Game Page - in this page people can play the game, and see description of the game like description, date added, rating, etc... They can vote for this game too
Before I'm starting build it I have some questions.
1. I want the same Header, Footer and Menu in all the pages of my website.
How to do it: With Master Page?
2. In the Homepage I have:
Links + Pictures + Description of The 12 newest games of all the categories.
Links + Pictures + Description or of The Most Popular games of the Last week.
Links + Pictures + Description of the Last (newest) 6 Games of each category (there are 9 categories: action, shooting, sports etc...). But not games that existing in the (Newest Games section (the first section in this list).
How to do it? : With DataSet using TOP sql property???
What is the best way (for Optimum Performance)
And how to do the third section in the list, how can I insert the top games of all the categories, but not Games that presented in the first section? (I can't use normal sql SELECT because it will present the games that in the first section.
3. In the Category Page people can see the games of each category (there are 9 categories pages - for each category)... and people can order the games (date added, ratings, and popular games) by using "DropDownList".
And people can see only 30 games per page. So there are buttons of: next, 1, 2, 3 etc... (Of each order)
How to do it?? For example if I want the Action Category page order by poplar: using sql: SELECT top (30) ..... where Category='Actoin' ORDERBY Visitor_Count ??
How to do the paging?
What to use DataSet? DataReader? DataBinding?
4. And how to make the game page?
Using Query String? And select details from the database By the Game_ID of the Query String??
What to do if I want nice game's Url address? (from example the game Batman)
Address Like this http://www.gamesff.com/action/Batman
5. in the game page, the code of the flash is like this:
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="525" height="400">
<param value="uploads/video-poker_0100.swf" />
<param value="high" />
<embed src="uploads/video-poker_0100.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" width="525" height="400"></embed>
</object>
How can I embed the address of the game from the database to this code?
Using Data binding of <%# GameAddress %> for example.. ?
6. I want count the number of the visitor per page. I know How to do it. But how Can I avoid from double counting of each user per day?
What to do? use database table for list of ip address and this list will clear once a day ? (But if I have thousand of visitor per day can it reduce the performance of the server if the server connect to the database for using ip address for each time that someone visits any game?
Or using cookies? Or something else?

I keep trying to add an assembly reference to my website which doesn't show up anywhere in my code. Specifically, I would like to add a reference to System.Xml.Linq.dll to my website. No such reference appears in my web.config file. Also, when I right click on the website in the Solution Explorer window, go to Property Pages, and then click on References in the left-hand column, System.Xml.Linq does not appear. Yet, when I right-click on the website and go to add reference, I ultimately am met with the error:
"The website is already referencing the assembly 'System.Xml.Linq'"
Also, when I put a using statement at the top of one of my classes in my App_Code folder for the System.Xml.Linq namespace, the Visual Studio IDE does not flag it as an error.Any insight into this strangeness would be very much appreciated. I'd like to put this into production someday, and I'm worried it might not work due to a missing reference. The version I'm currently using is Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition.

I have come up with a business idea that I would like to follow, which involves me creating a subscription website with multiple levels (I'm thinking probably around the 10 mark). While I'm pretty good with VB.Net and ASP.Net, I unfortunately have no idea how I might be able to go about creating a website that would require the user to pay a monthly/yearly subscription (which would be different depending on which level they wished to choose).

Visual Studio 2008 shows a lot of erroneous errors when building a website (not a web project) in the errors list. These errors are usually corrected (removed) when I rebuild the site a couple times but they cost me wasted time.Is there anyway to hide the erroneous errors?
Update:
I've decided to look into this to see if I could reproduce it. This is the exact behavior I am seeing, using the website model, I type some invalid syntax on a page. The errors list fills up with errors. I correct the error and the errors list does not update. I build the project and the errors list still shows the errors but the build shows as build completed. I build the project a second time and the errors list is cleared.
My question is there anyway to make the errors list clear on the first build? I thought it might have something to do with page build vs website build but it seems to make no difference. I am not using any third party dlls on this website.

i have developed simple login form as my web application. I wanted to connect it with database to add some more features. However, my VS 2008 was unable to connect with SQL Server 2008 on my laptop, I thought, I should copy and paste my entire web application folder into my web space provided by university. I have done that through ftp. However, when I have tried to debug my application (through remote desktop connection on my university server) I got some weired error.
Furthermore, when I have tried to debug my application on my laptop, it gave me an error that "Web.config file has been renamed, changed or deleted........."
So, my question is, "Is it possible to copy and paste your project simply like you do with your other files (songs, movies or photos etc...) and can debug (source as well as destination) without doing any further editing or chages?"........If no, what are the other alternatives?......

There's a project I'm doing now which is an ASP.net 2.0 written website with SQL database. (it was just assigned to me for deployment and no contact to programmer who is AWOL :-)
Scope of project is to move everything from live site to local server and display/execute exactly the way it does on the livesite (web).
Already configured Windows 2003 server as IIS and successfully restored the database through SQL 2008.
Since I am new to ASP.net deployment this is where my trouble starts: manually copied httpdocs folder to local server, copy website through MS web developer and tried to run it on local machine http://127.0.x.x/default.aspx for the home page. from there I am getting a server error log specifically the line " <configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">"
I know I have some work to do in here I do want to call the attention of ghw123 since he
is familiar with the dynamics of IIS and moving websites. Another thing I would like to point is the local server doesn't display any IP address when running ipconfig or ping from command prompt i simply pull out the ip info from the running IIS service itself. Lastly, I need to figure out which file/folders are really running on the livesite since there are lots of them (for other purpose maybe) on the remote server it is hosted.

We have an ASP.Net MVC solution built in VS2008 and TFS2008. We use TFS Build and use Continuous Integration.We have a deployment pipeline that enables us to progress a build, eventually, to our live site...
Internal Dev (immediate deployment following a build)
External Dev (used by internal testers to make sure it works on the production server)
External Test (used by our client to test themselves)
Live (self explanatory).
I have 2 questions relating to thisWhich ones of these should be built in Debug and which in Release?How should I write my TFSBuild.proj files to cope with this strategy?
