View 3 RepliesThe simple website I am trying to build is a list of banks with their corresponding website. I also wanted the ability to add banks/website with the use of some text boxes and a button click event. I've got this fully working until I publish it. When I try to run it on the webserver it say it can not find the specified file c:windowssystem32inetservURLs.xml Now I understand the problem I just can not seem to fix it with out hard coding the path of the file into code.

I built a crystal report using crystal report 2008, and have it working fine aganist my test db. in my c# code that loads the report I put this in:
[Code]....
but problem is when i pushed this change to production, the report was stilling pulling test data, even though the web.config entry (LocalSqlServer) was updated in production to use production db. Could I have setup the crystal file incorrectly? When I'm creating the crystal file and connecting it to the db, is there something that I need to check or uncheck to tell it I'm going to dynamically supply the db connection rather than having it use the one I used to setup the report?
I am running a LINQ query which populates a list used by a DropDownList, I need to insert an "Unassigned" value to the list. The function below queries the values correctly from the db but does not insert the "Unaasinged" value to the list.
[Code]....
I have a dropdown list with hard coded values:
<asp:ListItem Text="One Day Shoots" Value="1" />
<asp:ListItem Text="Multi-day Shoots" Value="2" />
I want to use this to insert and edit values from a db. For example when adding a record the user selects 'One Day Shoots' and 1 gets inserted into the database. Then if the user goes to edit the page since the value in the db is 1 then the 'One Day Shoots' is selected.
One way I considered accomplishing this was by using a hidden feild - when the user selects something in the dropdown list the field is updated with the value, then when the user actually adds the record the value in the feild is submitted. I'm pretty sure this would work but is there a better way?
I'm relativley new to ASP and am using VB for the coding. I have a page that has a few fields on it, one being a drop down list that get's populated from a SQL Server.
I used the GUI to generate this form (see below), the connectionstring:Prod1ConnectionString that is stored in the web config file is hard coded. I want to change that I use the connection string that is passed as a Session parameter. I've been looking for hours for an example of how to remove the connectionstring from the web code and place the proper code in code behind script on the load_page event.

I'm trying to implement this tag cloud:
[URL]
...and I need the replace the hard-coded values below with those coming from my database?
[code]....
I've created the following sql string which returns the data in the format expected string/int or value/key
SELECT Tag, COUNT(Tag) AS Counter
FROM dbo.CtagCloud
GROUP BY Tag
HAVING (COUNT(Tag) > 3)
ORDER BY Counter DESC
why can images not be appended to a div in asp?

why do I have to use div.controls.add(img);?
and why cant I add a string to controls.add say like this
div.controls.add(img + String.Format("{0}", reader.GetString(0));

I have an assembly called like X.Common.DLL. There is some resources files for multilanguage app. Let's say it Language.resx Language.en-US.resx....etc.... I have a web application which contains this above dll as reference... So how can I use this resources file in my web applications markup side?
Text="<%$ Resources:Class, ResourceKey %>" is not valid because of "Class" name is in another assembly...
I have a class library and was to add a resource file to it to support both English and Spanish. Any tips as how I can do this? The language will be dictated by the user visiting the site. Would like to have to only load each resource file once and cache or set in static variable and avoid any overheads.

View 1 RepliesIn our web application we need to keep various company's settings. For eg "DiamondProdRefIDCaption","Shippingpickup","ZipCodeCaption","DefaultCountry","AllowToEditInvoice", etcThese settings are different for various companies and are placed in web.config as key-value pair.Initially, we have tried do simplify this process by adding a company_settings table in the DB so as to allow us to add companies on the fly. However, this method makes it very difficult to add a new setting
<%$Resources:DiamondProdRefIDCaption%>

View 1 RepliesI've gone rounds with this ever since I started programming classic ASP 12 (or so) years ago and I've never found a great solution because the architecture of ASP and ASP.NET has always been a swamp of bad practices, magic shared singletons, etc. My biggest issue is with the HttpApplication object with its non-event events (Application_Start, Application_End, etc.).
If you want to do stuff once for the entire lifespan of an HTTP application, Application_Start is the obvious place to do it. Right? Not exactly. Firstly, this is not an event per se, it's a magic naming convention that, when followed, causes the method to be called once per AppDomain created by IIS.
Besides magic naming conventions being a horrible practice, I've started to think it might be a reason there exist no such thing as a Start event on the HttpApplication object. So I've experimented with events that do exist, such as Init. Well, this isn't really an event either, it's an overridable method, which is the next best thing.
It seems that the Init() method is called for every instantiation of an HttpApplication object, which happens a lot more than once per AppDomain. This means that I might as just put my startup logic inside the HttpApplication object's constructor.
Now my question is, why shouldn't I put my startup logic in the constructor? Why does even Init() exist and do I need to care about Application_Start? If I do, can anyone explain why there is no proper event or overridable method for this pseudo-event in the HttpApplication object?
And can anyone explain to me why in a typical ASP.NET application, 8 instances of my HttpApplication are created (which causes the constructor and Init to run just as many times, of course; this can be mitigated with locking and a shared static boolean called initialized) when my application only has a single AppDomain?
In ASP.NET if the code and the asp.net markup is in one ascx file for example for a user control, would it perform poorly compared to a User control with Code Behind using a cs file and a designer.cs file?
View 3 RepliesI got an assignment to localize the website and to store all string values into the XML file. The reason for that is to let the sys. admin to change the localized values himself by editing XML file. Should I read the content of XML file and store in the memory on application startup? I guess there's a best practice for this kind of scenario.
View 2 RepliesIs that possible to add two connectionstrings in web.config and Can I call those two web.config in my aspx.cs file?
View 3 Replieswant to create and use resource file in my application (VB.NET 2008). Can i use .resx file or should i convert it into .resources file? please tel me the steps to create and use resource file in VB.NET with sample code.
View 1 RepliesI'm new to c# programming..I'm using windows form application c# .netI have been given a .resources file. it contains 2 columns 1) key and 2) values.I have brought the contents of this file into a datagrid using dynamic table in between and using resource manager. Now i have to edit the value column in the datagrid and if i click on a GENERATE button i should create a new resource file and it has to be stored as a file. In the same way i should create many sucj resource file.
View 1 RepliesI'm using labels with resource keys. Right now i made a control, with also a lot of resource key's in it, i thought the page where i put the control in would read the resources, but it wont. So 2 solutions needed.
The nicest thing would be if i could 'bind' the resourcefile to the ascx file. But how?
Otherwise i need to get the values to the ascx file, but how can i do that?
How can i get the value of the resource file, of course het sould auto select the correct language resx file. With this it works:
<asp:Label ID="lblHeaderClickCategory" runat="server" Text="lblHeaderClickCategory"
meta:resourcekey="lblHeaderClickCategory" Visible="false" />
But its quite stupit to need a label to get the value, it shoudl be possible by code.
I would like to use both of the connection strings in the same web.config file how can I do this I tried this yesterday it worked I called it a night, then this morning I got this. The error being on line: 10 Parser Error Message: The entry 'ApplicationServices' has already been added.
Line 8: <add name="ApplicationServices"
Line 9: connectionString="Data Source=Mysource;Initial Catalog=travelatlantic;User ID=MyID; Password=MyPassword;" />
Line 10: <add name="ApplicationServices"
Line 11: connectionString="Data Source=MySource;Initial Catalog=travelatlantic2;User ID=Myid; Password=MyPassword;" />
Line 12: </connectionStrings>
I have developed an asp.net web application containing 40-50 pages. I have implemented logger using Log4net and each of my pages has this in its page_load event.
[code]...
This method has many strings like "In page Load function","OrgId","Homepage.aspx?Sid=1","Page load function successfull". Now i would like to maintain these string which are common throughout my application in a seperate class file and use it with a variable...
my ASP.NET application reads an xml file to determine which environment it's currently in (e.g. local, development, production).
It checks this file every single time it opens a connection to the database, in order to know which connection string to grab from the Application Settings.
I'm entering a phase of development where efficiency is becoming a concern. I don't think it's a good idea to have to read a file on a physical disk ever single time I wish to access the database (very often).
I was considering storing the connection string in Application["ConnectionString"].
[code].....
I didn't design the application so I figure there must have been a reason for reading the xml file every time (to change settings while the application runs?) I have very little concept of the inner workings here. What are the pros and cons?
I've made a localised website uses resource file and I need to get the client to translate them. Can I export the resource file contents somehow?
