How To Create And Assign Roles With Customized Forms
Jun 22, 2010
I've created a very simple website with two roles, "administrator" and "employees". I've also added users using asp.net configuration wizard for both. My concern, however, is that going ahead it will not possible to use the wizard to add new roles, assign them or alter them once the site is online. I won't be the administrator and so I need to find a way for the administrator to add new roles and assign them to users from a remote connection. Where can I find some information on creating such forms?
I have set up a very simple authentication page where the user enters his password and if successful authentication occurs the program allows the user to make use of the controls in the page.
I used ASP.Net Configuration to create the user and roles, SQL Membership Provider for the authentication tables and asp login controls to authenticate.
Is there any way to add users and roles once the project is deployed? Could I use the ASP.Net configuration page? and if so how?
I have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself.
Here is the membership provider definition from web.config:
[code]....
So, obviously, I have a Sql Server database that contains the users and roles for the web app. I'd like to create a separate windows app that references the web app assembly, and use the configured MembershipProvider, RoleProvider, and machineKey to create users, assign users to roles, etc. If that's not possible, I can duplicate the configuration settings from web.config within the windows app. But I don't know how to do this either.
Other than WSAT as I don't want to have to use the CMD bypass to access it using VS 2013, how can I administrate users/roles on my web forms web site and be able to administer them via the website from a different location.
My question is: how can i create my own parameter based upon the QueryStringParameter?
Example:
[Code]....
I now called it QueryStringGuidParameter.
The purpose of this is: I'm not sending any querystring's via the aspx?querystring other thasn aspx?guid={guid identifier}.I hope my code below explains it al little bit.
[Code]....
A soon as a page Redirects f.i. with this example
[Code]....
Instead of calling Response.Redirect i call the Redirect i created. This transforms the querystring in a session with a guid and parameter. The Redirect only sends the guid in the querystring. and the receiving page picks up the guid and translates it back into a querystring.
Purpose is you have a secure way of dealing with info sending via querystrings. Lets say in the past you could easily get other info from the page by just changing a value in the key send via a querystring. In my case lets say the user request a Customer "A" with querystring ?ID=1.
Simple change the query in the addressbar to ?ID=2 (or something else) would give him another customer. Maybe a customer he is not allowed to see. (Of course this can be prevented also in the business layer, but that's not the point.)
So if i simply could create a new QueryStringParameter lets say called QueryStringGuidParameter which i can use in the ObjectDataSource but ideally just for all controllers which are able to use the QueryStringParameter , i don't have to go into code behind and set the SelectParameters in there.
how to implement role based security in asp.net 4.0, in detail. Like from Data base to UI. how I wanted to implement. On page Load, drop will be filled with all available roles, with list of all check boxes(basically it will equal to the no. of links on the left side tree) below, I will select required boxes and then save. If that particular user with that role logged in, then we will load only those links which this role is having ( of course we will assign that user with the spefic role).
What I need to achieve is to filter the records returned based on the username (and hence role) of the logged-in user. e.g if an advanced user is logged in they will see all the event types, if the standard user is logged in they will only see the basic event type etc.
Ideally id like to do this in a way which can be easily extended to other tables as necessary. So I'd like to avoid simply adding a 'Roles' field to each table where the data is user context sensitive.
One idea I'm thinking of is to create some kind of permissions table like:
this has the drawback of using this is obviously having to use the table name to switch which table to join onto.
Edit: In the absence of any better suggestions, I'm going to go with the last idea I mentioned, but instead of having a TableName field, I'm going to normalise the TableName out to it's own table as follows:
I just like to know how can i create my own authentication(calling the ASP .net membership, role) page with the same function as the LOGIN Control. Your wondering, why not use the Login control instead. I have my own design and i don't know how to pattern my design to the built in Login Control. I tried editing the login template, but it's pretty hard to pattern it to my design.
This is my design
Basically what would like to know how the Login Control calls for the authentication, and when authenticated, it will pass the user(full name) to my LoginView Control without any coding. Or is it possible that I remove default login button in the LOGIN Control then create my own button and trigger the authentication or validation? But if you have other suggestion that can follow my design and call the authentication, i would be happy to know.
When I login to application, i want Button ad a Header menu like (Admin,Quote....2 button should visible).
If Login User is Admin/Quote then Click on that Button it should show all its child nodes must be as the button horizontally.
[Code]....
Even i have to write the code in the Code Behind of Site.Master. I think i need Repeter's OnItemCommand event but it does not run that methods and how can i filter the sitemap with Role in this Method? I can not able to Find the control in the Code Behind.. Is it possible to show these type of custom menus using SiteMap with Role Filteration?
in my asp.net+vb+access web i am having a page in which i am counting and displying the numbers in text boxes/labels. it works fine.
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim connectString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _ "Data Source=C:webWing.mdb" Dim con As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection(connectString)
[Code].....
i want to amend the value with the value of the text boxes that i had tried manually it works fine.
then i can show this dropdownlist in my "about" view <%=Html.DropDownList("a") %>.
BUT, now i want to define this dropdown list at my back end. what i want to do is to create a new "Helper".cs file in my project, and create a function within it. so every time if i want to show this dropdown list, i can just simply call this function instead of Add new SelectListItems one by one. is there anyone tell me how to do it?? and is it a good way to create a dropdownlist at the back end?
can any one tell how to create the roles in asp.net? when ever Admin creates the roles, there it self he should assing the pages, which pages should be open when ever perticular person enters in to the site. When ever Admin wants to assing the Roles, all pages appear in grid view with check box,if he checks that pages,he able to access other wise he couldnot access that page.
I want to build web pages using ASP.NET 4.0 (C#), and I want some controls to be appear for the admin role for example. And disappear for the normal user.
The question is: Is this method PERFECT? or there are many better methods to apply?
How to create/define new roles ASP.NET MCV model?. I am using a sql server database and vb.net. I want to store the roles in database. There is already a table named asp_roles but not sure how to define a new role ans assign is to a user.
Using the Entity Framework (without using SPROC / SCOPE_IDENTITY), I want to:1) Create a new Assessment (Entity)2) Assign Values to the Entity3) Insert the Entity to the Database4) Get the Row ID from the Database (assessmentID)5) Then use that Row ID to to some other calculations, before doing some other stuff and Inserting another Entity named Grade.
I am newbie to asp.net.I want to create roles for the existing users in my database. I dont want to use the membership provider database n roles provided with it.(i don't want to use aspnet.mdf at all)
I am create roles for my existing users n assign i wanted to assign the particular roles to a particular assign.
I have created a folder in DotNetNuke programmatically on the root portal directory. I just want to assign permissions to it only one time, for example I want to make it read only for authenticated users. Any advice on how to accomplish this using C# or VB.NEt?
I am using asp.net membership for all the users and roles, right now i have a website on which i have created 2 roles "admin" and "member" in this website i create accounts, so all the accounts are separated/distinguished by account name now i was to add one more role "accountholders" and i want to add this role in such a way that an account holder will be able to see his / her account's stuff ...
i as admin will be creating username and password for accountholders and i will provide them their login credentials so that they can login and see what's in their account. My idea of creating account is that, the accounts that i have in my database will be the key, so when i will create username for particular account , in the create user wizard i should have a drop downmenu will all the accounts name. so the user that i am creating will be linked on that account only ..
