I have an asp.net application running on a web farm that allows users to upload files and download them later via link to that file. Currently, I use Windows DFS to replicate the local IIS directory where the files are stored across the web farm servers. However, as this solution does not scale out, I want to implement a more scalable solution by partitioning the documents. Specifically, say I set up multiple file storage servers (Fs1, Fs2, Fs3, etc.) on the network. Further, let's say I change my upload page to save the uploaded file to one of the file storage servers on the local LAN (based on some logic). I assume so far I am safe with ASP.NET doing this much assuming I have the correct permission for the ASP.NET process ID. The question I have is withregards to download links. When a user gets served a download link to their document (e.g. http://www.testco.com/data/doc1.txt) is there a way for me to "intercept" that HTTP request and underneath the coversserve the doc1.txt from the file storage server (e.g. Fs2) it resides

That didn't work though. Basically, any request to ~/Downloads/file.pdf should not be allowed, and should redirect the request to a custom error page that I created.
i have a asp.net website i have some files swf files that i want to prevent downloading them
is there a solution that the IIS can have a passord for downloading the file swf file and i can provide this password in some situations on the server that i can pass this password in the code

but no one can download it using download managers or any other http request that request this swf file
How to download a word document which is stored in database, sql server as a content data through C#? This is my Code I'm using:
string doctype = dtResumeInfo.Rows[0]["ContentType"].ToString();
string docname = dtResumeInfo.Rows[0]["FileName"].ToString();
//[code]....
But, it is showing the following error:SubStatusCode 'Response.SubStatusCode' threw an exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException'
base {"This operation requires IIS integrated pipeline mode."} System.NotSupportedException {System.PlatformNotSupportedException}
Headers 'Response.Headers' threw an exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException'
My IIS version is 6.0 where I published. Donwloading word document can be done only in IIS 7. So, this is the cause of the error. Is there any other way to overcome this problem? Any other code will support lower version??
I've always been required show download size next to the file hyperlink. Only the file in question is rebuilt everyday and the file size can change often. So needless to say the size has been wrong for months. I'm not going to update our site daily to display needless info.
instead of
<a href="file.xxx">click here to download (20mb)</a>
I'd prefer
<a href="file.xxx">click here to download [sizeof('file.xxx')]</a>
The best solution would be javascript based or similar.
What whould be the best way to prevent multiple users on a page?
For example if a user is at the page "Home.aspx", no other users should be allowed to go there.
I'm using asp.net on the server and the js-frameword jQuery on the client side.
i have been writing a music website for my customer using ASP.NET. Everything has been cool except I don't know how to prevent the users from downloadng the song which is being played. How can I keep users from modifying the date in the textbox?
I am making a small file hosting website, and each user can upload multiple files, and will have access to just his files and can't access others files, for example by guessing the URL. Is there a way to secure files to have access by just the owner and no body else "may be website administrator also will have access"
View 3 RepliesI am using webclient object to download a file to a windows folder from a sharepoint document library. The credentials I am passing to the webclient object are that of site collection administrator. everything works fine while i test it by uploading a file to the document library. But since the document library is email enabled; when an email is received the file is not transferred to the windows folder. i have put some workflow history events to see which user account is used when the email is received. the user account shown is the network service account. I have given write permissions on the folder to all the users; Everyone, Network service, the site collection administrator user etc. but still i cant figure out what is the problem.
View 2 RepliesI have a folder within my website called 'ProtectedPages' which contains pages which users can only see if they have logged in (MyAccount.aspx etc). If they bookmark that page and try to go to it without logging-in, they are immediately bounced to my login page.However, if I have text files, images etc. in there, then it seems users can get to these fine without the need to login - all they need is the URL. For example, I could send the URL http://mysite.com/ProtectedPages/MyAccount.aspx to a friend and he wouldn't be able to access it until he had logged in. However, I could send himttp://mysite.com/ProtectedPages/ATextDocument.txt and it would show it to him without any problems.How would I go about protecting ALL files within this folder? I have a web.config file within the ProtectedPages folder which just has this information in it (I don't want TrainingAdministrator's to have access to that folder at all)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

I am using ASP.NET profiles with allowAnonymous="true". I am NOT using ASP.NET membership. I recently took a hard look at the aspnetdb database and noticed that although my site gets 600-800 unique visitors daily, there are 4000-5000 "users" being created in the database.
Clearly what is happening here is the users with cookies disabled end up creating a record for every request.
My question: How do I prevent user and profile database records from being created if the client doesn't support cookies or has them disabled?
How can we prevent non ahuthenticated users from like and dislike multiple times?one way : save Ip address in a cookiebut theres's two problem1. I heard Ip address isn't unique and changes frequently2. cookie can be deleted by userI'd .
View 1 RepliesBeing new to integrating sharepoint documents into web applications I am struggling with the following task, so anyI have a page in my web application that needs to display a document from sharepoint.I use the appropiate sharepoint web service to get a list of all the documents in the sharepoint list, I then pick out the one I would like to retrieve and get the path to the document so i would end up with something like:
Company%20Hire/Hire%20Site%20Price%20Lists/0.pdf
Within our network I can do following:
iframePdf.Attributes[
"src"] = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SharepointUrl"] + _filePath;
This would display the document in iframe... problem I have is coming from outside the network the sharepoint site can't be accessed (due to firewalls etc). We do have a vpn back to our network on the external server our web application sits on. If i was to use the document url in a browser on the server I am prompted for credentials and then get to view the document.Is there a way for the web application to use the vpn, use credentials i give (e.g through impersonation) to access the document and display it to exernal clients?
I have a asp.net chech box control in the top of my page. I have a html table getting populated from DB on the page load. But, during the page load checkbox got rendered before the html table gets populated. So, the user is able to select the checkbox before the page completes the action and becomes unstable. My problem is, I couldn't disable and enable the checkbox after the page compltely loaded. As I tried this in the last line of Page_load event and also, using a Page_UnLoad event - no use. These events fired before I see the HTML table in my browser. Also, I tried in javascript (which is running after the html table populated), but there I could not enable the disabled check box.
View 9 RepliesI am trying to prevent users from submitting ascii codes in a textbox using a RegularExpressionValidator.
This works fine and I am able to display an error.
However when the user clicks on another button on the page I get the "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client" error. Is there a way to prevent this?
I am implementing strightforward membership provider. I do not want new users to be able to login without being approved.
I have tried the setting on the registration wizard called DisableCreatedUser="True" and this does not work.
I also set LoginCreatedUser to False, and the user still gets logged in.
If I look in the SQL membership table, 'IsApproved' is set to 0 for the account, but they can still login.
