View 1 RepliesI have a folder within my website called 'ProtectedPages' which contains pages which users can only see if they have logged in (MyAccount.aspx etc). If they bookmark that page and try to go to it without logging-in, they are immediately bounced to my login page.However, if I have text files, images etc. in there, then it seems users can get to these fine without the need to login - all they need is the URL. For example, I could send the URL http://mysite.com/ProtectedPages/MyAccount.aspx to a friend and he wouldn't be able to access it until he had logged in. However, I could send himttp://mysite.com/ProtectedPages/ATextDocument.txt and it would show it to him without any problems.How would I go about protecting ALL files within this folder? I have a web.config file within the ProtectedPages folder which just has this information in it (I don't want TrainingAdministrator's to have access to that folder at all)

I am looking at how best to prevent a single user account logging on multiple times in a webforms application. I know that MembershipUser.IsOnline exists, but I've read a few forum and blog entries suggesting that this can be unreliable, particularly in scenarios where a user closes a browser (without logging out) and attempts to logon with a different machine or browser.I looked at implementing a last past the post type system; when a user logs on older users are simply kicked off. It seems that FormsAuthentication.Signout() only works for the current user.
View 2 RepliesWhen I run my website through debug mode in visual studio everything looks great and all the images on the page show up fine. But once I deploy my website to an IIS7 web server (doubt that other versions would make any difference, but you never know) then users can't see the images on the site until they log in.The website is an asp.net MVC site and I'm new to MVC, though I do have lots of experience with asp.net forms. It seems that only authenticated users are allowed to access the images folder, and there is an authorization section in my web.config saying that only admins can access the site, so how do I make it so that all users, authenticated or otherwise can view the images?

I have an issue with loginUrl parameter on Forms authentication. Forms Authentication always redirect unauthenticated users to ~/Account/Login ignoring the url configured into Web.Config.
This happend if i add reference to WebMatrix.WebData,WebMatrix.Data into main web.config file (system.web/compilation/assemblies). N.B.: Moving this reference to child web.config file (the one contained into View folder) error doesn't occour anymore

View 3 Repliesso here is the setup. I am building a page that has a listview, a datapager, and 3 datapagerfield (2 x NextPreviousPagerField, 1 x NumericPagerField), and a objectdatasource to tide all of this together.
It was all working fine until I put a breakpoint into the SelectMethod specified in the objectdatsource control. It seems like that for each datapagerfield control, it is calling the selectmethod and selectcount method. Hence, whenever a user paged, it calls the database 6 times instead of 2 (I don't have caching turned on atm). If I remove one datapagerfield, it will remove 2 calls.
Now this is build in asp.net 3.5 SP1 in VS2008. When I copied the same code files to a asp.net 4.0 VS2010 solution, it duplicate call seems to be gone.
Is this a bug in asp.net 3.5 SP1?

View 5 RepliesI have a textbox with a calendar icon next to it. When the icon is clicked a popup form displays the calendar control. I have it set up where they can only select the week ending date(saturday) and that date is displayed in the textbox.
I want to prevent users from editing the textbox. I've tried using the readonly and enabled properties but that doesn't work.

I am using ASP.NET profiles with allowAnonymous="true". I am NOT using ASP.NET membership. I recently took a hard look at the aspnetdb database and noticed that although my site gets 600-800 unique visitors daily, there are 4000-5000 "users" being created in the database.
Clearly what is happening here is the users with cookies disabled end up creating a record for every request.
My question: How do I prevent user and profile database records from being created if the client doesn't support cookies or has them disabled?
I'm overriding the Controller.Initialize method to set some stuff before each ActionResult is executed, however I'm finding that the method is being called multiple times for each request (anywhere between 2 - 10 times). I'm running in Cassini.
My hunch is that it is running for all static files (images, css etc) as well as the requested action - although I may be wrong? I thought maybe something was wrong in my web.config but it all looks right to me.

The only thing is the data needs to be filtered before it gets to each partial view.

I have a ASP.NET 3.5 web application and I would like to allow users to install this web application multiple times on the same server.

I have a asp.net chech box control in the top of my page. I have a html table getting populated from DB on the page load. But, during the page load checkbox got rendered before the html table gets populated. So, the user is able to select the checkbox before the page completes the action and becomes unstable. My problem is, I couldn't disable and enable the checkbox after the page compltely loaded. As I tried this in the last line of Page_load event and also, using a Page_UnLoad event - no use. These events fired before I see the HTML table in my browser. Also, I tried in javascript (which is running after the html table populated), but there I could not enable the disabled check box.

This works fine and I am able to display an error.
However when the user clicks on another button on the page I get the "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client" error. Is there a way to prevent this?
