View 4 RepliesI have an asp.net application running on a web farm that allows users to upload files and download them later via link to that file. Currently, I use Windows DFS to replicate the local IIS directory where the files are stored across the web farm servers. However, as this solution does not scale out, I want to implement a more scalable solution by partitioning the documents. Specifically, say I set up multiple file storage servers (Fs1, Fs2, Fs3, etc.) on the network. Further, let's say I change my upload page to save the uploaded file to one of the file storage servers on the local LAN (based on some logic). I assume so far I am safe with ASP.NET doing this much assuming I have the correct permission for the ASP.NET process ID. The question I have is withregards to download links. When a user gets served a download link to their document (e.g. http://www.testco.com/data/doc1.txt) is there a way for me to "intercept" that HTTP request and underneath the coversserve the doc1.txt from the file storage server (e.g. Fs2) it resides
View 5 RepliesI've always been required show download size next to the file hyperlink. Only the file in question is rebuilt everyday and the file size can change often. So needless to say the size has been wrong for months. I'm not going to update our site daily to display needless info.
instead of
<a href="file.xxx">click here to download (20mb)</a>
I'd prefer
<a href="file.xxx">click here to download [sizeof('file.xxx')]</a>
The best solution would be javascript based or similar.
I am using webclient object to download a file to a windows folder from a sharepoint document library. The credentials I am passing to the webclient object are that of site collection administrator. everything works fine while i test it by uploading a file to the document library. But since the document library is email enabled; when an email is received the file is not transferred to the windows folder. i have put some workflow history events to see which user account is used when the email is received. the user account shown is the network service account. I have given write permissions on the folder to all the users; Everyone, Network service, the site collection administrator user etc. but still i cant figure out what is the problem.
View 2 RepliesHow to download a word document which is stored in database, sql server as a content data through C#? This is my Code I'm using:
string doctype = dtResumeInfo.Rows[0]["ContentType"].ToString();
string docname = dtResumeInfo.Rows[0]["FileName"].ToString();
//[code]....
But, it is showing the following error:SubStatusCode 'Response.SubStatusCode' threw an exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException'
base {"This operation requires IIS integrated pipeline mode."} System.NotSupportedException {System.PlatformNotSupportedException}
Headers 'Response.Headers' threw an exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException'
My IIS version is 6.0 where I published. Donwloading word document can be done only in IIS 7. So, this is the cause of the error. Is there any other way to overcome this problem? Any other code will support lower version??

View 1 RepliesOn my page load, I need to download a file say http://example.com/file.csv or https://example.com/file.csv to some location on my web server without prompting save as dialog box. Means it will be a download in background from some server to my server. How to do this?
View 2 RepliesI have subscription to a website where I can login and download files. These files are secured so I cannot download them with a direct link. Is there any way that I login programmatically and download files from http to my server without any user involvement? They do not offer any API or interface to communicate with.
View 2 RepliesIve downloaded the asp.net framework from the "getting started" section twice today. Once on my PC which has windows 7 and once on my laptop which has vista. Both ended up with the same problem.
Once it is all downloaded I go to the "sql server installation centre" in my programs list and then select the "new installation" link at the top, I am asked to "Browse for SQL server installation media." I have tried to browse for this but cannot find it anywhere. its an error with windows 7 and to try and download visual studio which has all the componants needed for SQL Server to run. I tried this and hit the same wall. I have spent all day tring to find a solution for this but to no avail. I find it very confusing when reading up on exactly what I need to download. I am a PHP developer and have never done anything with ASP before. I just want a quick and simple solution to be able to get my website & database up and running. I have a .bak file that I need to import into the database which I would have thought would be very straight forward?!?
I have the developers edition of sql server 2008 on my local machine (I have an msdn subscription). I would like to download and use r2 client, which I understand is superior to the standard client) but not the express database. Do I want the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Management Tools " (doesnt sound like what I want) or the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio Express" (does sound like what I want, and is about 100M smaller, so I assume doesnt load the database). Of course I am assuming that the r2 client connects with no problems to a non-r2 database.

Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition",

I'm trying to do the following in ASP.NET (with c#):
1. On page Load, download an XML file from a different website to the IIS server, in a subdirectory of the application directory called "downloadedFiles"
I know that WebClient.DownloadFile() can download a file, but this only seems to download the file to the client's machine. I am interested in downloading it to the actual IIS server (so that it can be utilized throughout the lifetime of more than one session). Does anyone know how this could be performed?
Specifically, I'm trying to download an XML file from a website (as an example: [URL]) . How could I download that XML file onto my actual IIS server?
if any one know how to download the file from the FTP server using credential of the ftp. code step by step in C#.net.
View 2 RepliesIs there a way I can code some vb whereby the server would download a file from a given URL from an external website elsewhere? For example, if I entered the url for the 7-Zip exe, it would then download that from SourceForge of wherever, and save it to the server.
View 3 RepliesHow do i download a file from server to the client pc using asp.net, im using c# with vs 2005. I have tried with WebCient but it is downloading on the server itself. I want to download a particular file to the client PC.
View 4 Repliesi am downloading a file from a server and i plan to delete the file that i have downloaded on the server after it gets downloaded on the client side. My download code is working fine but i dont know when to put the command to delete the file.
string filepath = restoredFilename.ToString();
// Create New instance of FileInfo class to get the properties of the file being downloaded
FileInfo myfile = new FileInfo(filepath);
// Checking if file exists
if (myfile.Exists)
{
// Clear the content of the response
Response.ClearContent();
// Add the file name and attachment, which will force the open/cancel/save dialog box to show, to the header
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + myfile.Name);
//Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=" + myfile.Name);
// Add the file size into the response header
Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", myfile.Length.ToString());
// Set the ContentType
Response.ContentType = ReturnExtension(myfile.Extension.ToLower());
//// Write the file into the response (TransmitFile is for ASP.NET 2.0. In ASP.NET 1.1 you have to use WriteFile instead)
Response.TransmitFile(myfile.FullName);
// End the response
Response.End();
}
Now i know the response.End() will stop every thing and return the value, so is there another way too do so. I need to call a function
DeleteRestoredFileForGUI(restoredFilename);
to delete the file but dont know where to put it.. i tried putting before and after Response.End() but it does not work.
here code which you have used and is working to upload file using file upload control and them download with open/saveas/cancel dialog.

I am having an issue downloading files that I have store in SQL Server. I have no problem in a WinForm. What am I doing wrong in my code?
[Code]....
I have a window open from another page because I was having an issue doing this while the page was ajaxified. The FileData part of the code is a structure that holds a memorystream and 2 strings and they are returning proper values. The window opens up and then closes almost immediately when the page loads.
The below code works fine for downloading a file from a current pc.plz suggest me how to download it from remote server using ip address or any method
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
const string fName = @"C:ITFSPDFbillsFebruaryAA.pdf";
FileInfo fi = new FileInfo(fName);
long sz = fi.Length;
Response.ClearContent();
Response.ContentType = MimeType(Path.GetExtension(fName));
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", string.Format("attachment; filename = {0}", System.IO.Path.GetFileName(fName)));
Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", sz.ToString("F0"));
Response.TransmitFile(fName);
Response.End();
}
public static string MimeType(string Extension)
{
string mime = "application/octetstream";
if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(Extension))
return mime;
string ext = Extension.ToLower();
Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey rk = Microsoft.Win32.Registry.ClassesRoot.OpenSubKey(ext);
if (rk != null && rk.GetValue("Content Type") != null)
mime = rk.GetValue("Content Type").ToString();
return mime;
