I need to take the information that would normally be displayed on the page for Trace and write that to a file. I have the IO part down, but need to know the method to pull the trace information and put it into a string.
In trying to track down a performance issue that is only occurring in our production environment, we have enabled tracing within the app so see method calls and page load times.
This is working well and there is lots of information that helps to track down issues. However, the only way of viewing this information is to browse to the Trace.axd and then view each request individually.
It is also only possible to track the first X requests in this way and X has a maximum limit of 10,000.
Is there a way to direct this trace information to a file or database? I believe this can be done using System.Diagnostics, however, I am not having much luck.
This results in an xml file containing the timestamps and data for the trace items such as "Begin Load", "End Load", etc.
However, it only seems to log a single request and does not log all requests. In addition, whilst the load times are useful, ideally I would like to have available all of the information that can be seen in the Trace.axd, such as request data, post data, session data, etc.
Is this possible at all without any major code changes? Ideally I would like to enable this using only web.config changes.
Alternatively, I have looked into other applications such as RedGate and Equatec's profiling tools, however, I would like to exhaust the non invasive tracing options first.
I am trying to redirect my trace output to a text file.
For this I tried to add a textwritertracelistener object to Trace.Listeners.Add but I can't see Listeners Class in Trace.ie When I put Trace. the Listeners class is not popup. Also I am unable to add System.Diagnostics.TraceListener namespace to the page.
I'm using .net web config to create trace listener for debug and trace output in a .NET web app.
The problem is that if left, the log file, which always uses the same name can get massive and has actually caused me some application issues today.
I can't find a method on the net of setting a log file size limit, or a method of using a dynamic name, such as one that uses a date string as part of the name. Does anyone know if this is possible?
how to write data in and excel sheet. when i retrive the data by foreach loop i want to dynamicaly create a excel sheet and save data inside the sheet.
I'm currently exporting a database table with huge data (100000+ records) into an xml file using XmlTextWriter class and I'm writing directly to a file on the physical drive.
_XmlTextWriterObject = new XmlTextWriter(_xmlFilePath, null);
While my code runs ok, my question is that is it the best approach? Or should I write the whole xml in memory stream first and then write the xml document in physical file from memory stream? And what are the effects on memory/ performance in both cases?
EDIT
I will indeed be using XmlTextWriter but I meant to say whether to pass a physical file path string to the XmlTextWriter constructor (or, as John suggested, to the XmlTextWriter.Create() method) or use stream based api. My current code looks like the following:
URL....the code works good when my webform is not inside content place holder of Master page.but, when i use same code in the webform which lies inside content place holder of a Master page, downloading of excel doesnot happen.
How would I display the following code into a GridView. First, I need the application to write the xml file somewhere on my harddrive and then I need it to read it to populate a gridview.
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { var xmlRequest = new XElement("GetTicketAction", new XAttribute(XNamespace.Xmlns + "xsi",[URL] " new XAttribute(XNamespace.Xmlns + "xsd", "[URL]"), new XElement("CompanyName", Setup.Company), new XElement("IntegrationLoginId", Setup.Username ), new XElement("IntegrationPassword", Setup.Password), new XElement("SrServiceRecid", Setup.SrServiceRecid)) .ToString(); var proxy = new MyWebService.integration_io(); var xmlResponse = proxy.ProcessClientAction(xmlRequest); var parsedXmlResponse = XElement.Parse(xmlResponse);......................
I have a SQL trace I run on a database which I would like to be able to monitor more easily. How can I access a trace in real time with an ASP.NET page?
So,my question is that why we basically use @ before the sql query.If I don't use @ before that then it again work fine (does not give any error), then what is need of using "@"?
have an eCommerce web site that is hosted on a Windows machine with ASP.NET. It uses an MSACCESS database (an .mdb file) which contains all the inventory, the customers, the orders, etc. I have the source code for most of the web site (a bunchof .ASP and .ASPX files) and I understand the database tables rather well. THere's a web.config file on the web site that has this line in it
I'm trying to write a new web.config file using VB in ASP.net. I am trying to set access permissions, but it won't let me use the question mark to denote: <deny users="?" /> in the authorization tag. Is there an alternative to this or a different encoding I should be using for this character?
My specific error: The '?' character cannot be used here.
'Create file, overwrite if exists 'enc is encoding object required by constructor 'It is null, so default encoding is used Dim objXMLTW As New XmlTextWriter((MapPath(".") & "asic" & fold & "" & "web.config"), Nothing) objXMLTW.WriteStartDocument() 'Top level (Parent element) objXMLTW.WriteStartElement("configuration") 'Child elements, from request form objXMLTW.WriteStartElement("system.web") objXMLTW.WriteStartElement("auhorization") objXMLTW.WriteString("deny users="?"") objXMLTW.WriteEndElement() objXMLTW.WriteEndElement() objXMLTW.WriteEndElement() 'End top level element objXMLTW.WriteEndDocument() 'End Document objXMLTW.Flush() 'Write to file objXMLTW.Close()
I have a web form, that needs to save the data that the user enters, into a file and on the client pc, that will also be able to read from the saved file and repopulate the fields at a later time. No files will be saved to the server side, so I expect streaming needs to be involved at writing time.
I decided XML would be an easy way to do this, but I'm stymied on methodology. XML documents? XML Writers?
I'm stumped on the right search terms to even get what I want.
In C# ASP.net, could someone show me how I can write entries from an Array/List to a CSV file on the server and then open the file? I think the second part would be something like - Response.Redirect("http://myserver.com/file.csv"), however not sure on how to write the file on the server.
Also if this page is accessed by many users, is it better to generate a new CSV file every time or overwrite the same file? Would there be any read/write/lock issues if both users try accessing the same CSV file etc.?
Update:
This is probably a silly question and I have searched on Google but I'm not able to find a definitive answer - how do you write a CSV file to the webserver and export it in C# ASP.net? I know how to generate it but I would like to save it to www.mysite.com/my.csv and then export it.
When i just run my web appliction then i get the erro:Could not write to output file 'c:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Filespersonalwebsite24bf5e63923e6c3e6App_Code.x8uy-li9.dll' -- 'Access is denied. ' I also get this when i run web application fron starter kit........
I tried to save a file to local drive using the code below but got "access denied" error. How to save file to local drive? Dim file As String = "c:myfile" Dim stream As New System.IO.FileStream(file, System.IO.FileMode.Create)
