I have configured ASP user database. I can create users/roles either programmatically or by going to Project -> ASP.Net configuration in Visual Studio IDE.
Server this database is running on doesn't have VS installed. Is there a way to add users/roles through command line or IIS settings?
I'm creating an ecommerce site using asp.net and a Access Datasource, I have used the pre-defined logging in and registering controls provided by Visual Studio 2010 which stores the user data in a SQL server.
For my site the content of the shopping cart is uploaded to a table in the access database, I need to however save the contents of the cart to a specific user ID. For example if User number 1 orders book id's 4,7,2 this needs to be saved, but if user number 2 comes along and orders 4,1,7 this needs to be saved for them as well.
So a user can have many carts, this is sorted in access but with the user ID being saved to a different database is there anyway I can link the two databases so I can say
"Save bookid's 1,2,3 in tblcart where userID is the same as the logged in user"
On our production servers, the admins created a WebUser active directory account which is users for anonymous access to IIS and is also used to authenticate database access with our SQL Server instances using Integrated Security=SSPI in the connection string and identity impersonate="true" in the web.config.
I've often come across situations where I would like to or even need to use forms authentication. However, I using forms authentication, Integrated Security seems to use the logged in user's credentials to authenticate against the database. In these cases I have changed the connection string to use the credentials of a SQL Server users instead. I would prefer to not have a hard coded username and password in the connection string or rather worse in code. Is it possible to use forms authentication just for user authentication for users and windows authentication with the IIS user for database access? What would be the best practice in such a situation?
Formview1 is databound to SQLSource that has a while condition. this while condition has a term which is a control in my page set by user. The problem is when there is no match (between users' value and database) the page *becomes blank*
i want the controls of my formview and rest of the page to still be available
I have been developing a job tracking system in asp.net VB I have used the users/roles system for user access each role has their own area within the system
Admin User Design Translations
After a user logs in to the system they can create a new job, after a job has been created I would like a notice sent to the admins (new job in system) with the job id or name etc, on the form for the job I would like to have a radio box accept reject if the job is accepted it will send and email / notice to the design team to say their is a new job and another notice/email to the user to say the job has been started I have configured email in my web.config file for retriving forgotten passwords, I have not done anything with messaging or email before and I only have a month to impliment this if it is possible at all
I have created a website using Visual Web Developer Express and origonally the database was created in SQL Server Express. My Web host would not accept the .mdf file so I installed SQL 2008 Server Developer and imported my database in the full SQL Server. I then linked my website to the new database and altered the web.config file to point to the new database.
All the pages work well now apart from the Login Web Control which just says login unsuccessful and asks me to login again. When I try this on the actual website I get the following error message
"Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
Its obviouly not finding the Membership/User Table in the new database but I cannot find a way to redirect it. I have tried deleting the Login Web Control and re-inserting but get the same problem.
I've got a website and we just had a huge jump in traffic. Now all of the sudden we're getting sql parameter errors left and right. We switched to a new sql server a few weeks ago and everything has been fine but the added traffic seems to be breaking us.
I have a data access class that is called when each user trys to logon. It runs through several tasks before finally updating the users last login date and forwarding them to the administration section.
What I'm seeing from the trace logs suggests that when I'm logging in the first several tasks are using my data (lets say user=birk pass=word). But at some point the accessor class starts sending over the data from someone else who's trying to login (lets say user=abcxyz)
Every connection we make to the server is closed when we're finished with it. I'm nulling out all of the accessor objects when I'm finished with them. But somehow different user data from different sessions are making their way into other peoples instances of the object.
I'm not using session/application/cache/viewstate to store the objects so I'm not really seeing how they could edit eachother... Its just really weird and I'm not sure how to even go about researching the problem.
This is roughly the accessor class... I trimmed out some of the parts that weren't reliant to the issue
I have a website that requires users to login, but I am having problems when authenticating a users.I create a user which works fine, I then test the login on the development machine and everything works fine the user is logged in.But if a try to login the user in via the live website (same database) I get errors stating that the login attempt has failed.I don't understand why it would work on the development machine but won't work with the live version of the website.
I am newbie to asp.net.I want to create roles for the existing users in my database. I dont want to use the membership provider database n roles provided with it.(i don't want to use aspnet.mdf at all)

For first the idea: "My WebApp needs an chronometerto be shared by users and all users will se the same value in cronometer. When a user clicks on a button, the cronometer needs to be restarted and all users will need to see that!"
All right, now I'd like to know what's the best choose to improve more performace an make sure that all users will see the same value in chronometer?
Need I use JSon (with jquery in client side), Timer with UpdatePanel of Ajax Extensions, pure Ajax (with JQuery) how to shared a cronometer for all users in C# (put information in Cache or database) ?
I need to do an insert into a database table (SQL Server). I want to compute value of 1 column based on the existing data and then do an insert. How do I prevent another user from getting access to the database in the middle of this process?
I have a following requirement. In my website, any user login with his/her credentials at that time URL should be switched to HTTPS from HTTP till the user logged out. After Log Out, URL change to HTTP from HTTPS.
I am storing username in Session and from that I can check whether user is logged in or not but how to change URL at that time.
I am creating a Web Application in asp.net 2.0 and sql server 2005.I want to use an existing database.
I have created a login and a signup page. Then i replace the new SQL database (the one that is created automaticly by the visual studio) with the exiting database I have.If I create a new user, the new user goes to the database and I can login with the new user. I cannot login with the existing users. If I go to the asp.net configuration, I only can see the new users I have created, I cannot see the users that were in the database already and I can't see the roles also.
I can I make the new application to recognize the users and roles of the existing database?
I had created a Membership ASP.NET 3.5 website and selected the Forms authentication. Therefore, I created several users with related information into the ASPNETDB database. Yesterday, I changed the website security to Windows authentication.
This morning, when reviewing the ASPNETDB data for another website, I still can see those Membership Forms users and their ApplicationIDs in the aspnet_Users and aspnet_membership tables. How can I delete those Forms users?
Another question: In aspnet_Applications table, I can see the ApplicationName (e.g. /WebPartsDemo) for the Web Parts websites. I have 2 ApplicationIDs in the aspnet_Membership table. I can not see only one ApplicationID in the aspnet_Applications table, but with an empty ApplicationName, i.e. / only.
Do I miss something when creating the Membership website? What is the ApplicationName for the Membership website?
I am in the process of creating a forum design from scratch, as my first official asp.net application attempt.
Overview:
I would like to handle this task in the following steps:
1) Get input from the user: txtLoginEmail, txtPassword
Form has been submitted:
2) Process inputs a) cut/trim white spaces
b) encrypt password by using SHA1 hashing method located in clsLibrary
3) Check the email address given against the database
Match: Display a message saying that the username already exists.
Doesn't: Add the email address and add encrypted password into the database
Question:
In my Register.aspx.vb code-behind file, inside of the question mark lines, how exactly do I check against the database to see if that user exists in that database already? I thought perhaps storing the results in an array and then looping through it to look for matches, but that sounds inefficient. I tried this idea and after an hour I was unsuccessful. Below is my code for the class objects and pieces of code relevant to this task:
If I declare a public variable in my module then publish it out on the server...then have multiple users using the app will the variable get overwritten each time a user calls it?
Im very new to ASP.net and have no experience with it at all.Im currently developing a website, and am confused about creating users.Im using the create user wizard, everything is working fine. However,I am worried about the security of user information.I believe the user information is stored in the APP_Data folder, am I right in believing that this folder is secure?
Exactly how is the user information stored when using the create a user wizard? In a database in the APP_Data folder? Is it encrypted automatically when a user signs up?
I need to show how to show countdownwhen the user session expire? if users session expire means i need to redirct user to login page.. How can i achieve this?
I have below code to display "list of all the online users" inside listBox using Membership function.
Code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { MembershipUserCollection allUser = Membership.GetAllUsers(); // to get all the users List<MembershipUser> onlineUsers = new List<MembershipUser>(); //creating list of online users foreach (MembershipUser user in allUser)
[Code] ....
I want to remove that user from the list of online users, who himself has logged in. Example: if I had logged-in with UserName: Admin, then this Admin should not show to me in the list of "online users"
Tried below Code but not working:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { MembershipUserCollection allUser = Membership.GetAllUsers(); // to get all the users List<MembershipUser> onlineUsers = new List<MembershipUser>(); //creating list of online users MembershipUser m_user = Membership.GetUser(); //to get self logged-in user
