How To Delete IIS Custom Headers Like X-Powered-By: ASP.NET From Response

Nov 2, 2010

In IIS 7.0 integrated mode after deleting all headers with Response.ClearHeaders() IIS would add some other headers like Server and X-Powered-By which reveals good information to hackers. How can I stop this behavior (consider I still need to add my custom headers) ?

C# - Get Only Response Headers?

Oct 31, 2010

Using ASP.NET is it possible to make a request and get only response headers? I have to do a request to a big file, but I only need the response headers, i dont care about the content of the file.

I would like to know if there is something similar to get_headers from php (http://php.net/manual/en/function.get-headers.php).

I am writing an ASP.NET application that generates CSV string and returns it using response.write. However, along with the CSV string, the output comes with other information I would like to get rid of (e.g. ASP.NET version, time-stamp) etc. How can I just get the CSV string and nothing else?

Add Response Http Headers In Web Configuration?

May 27, 2010

In my application I need to set a http response header. I'd like to do this in web.config. but I dont'know if this is possible and I can't find it on Google. Solution Finally, after a long search I found the solution. Create a class with this code:

public class myHTTPHeaderModule : IHttpModule
{
#region IHttpModule Members
public void Dispose()
{
}
public void Init(HttpApplication context)
{
context.EndRequest += new EventHandler(context_EndRequest);
}
void context_EndRequest(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
HttpResponse response = HttpContext.Current.Response;
response.AddHeader("Content-Language", "*");
}
#endregion
}

(Don't ask me why to use this event, but it works..) Now add a line in web.config in the HttpModule section:

<httpModules>
<add type="namespace.myHTTPHeaderModule, assembly name" name="headers" />
<add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
</httpModules>

Response Headers Created In Web Forms?

Apr 23, 2010

I read somewhere the you can't remove response headers once they've been added. Given that, I'm wondering where in a standard ASP.NET web forms application do response headers get added initially. For example, these:Date Fri, 23 Apr 2010 16:25:56 GMT erver Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Cache-Control privateAnd can I stop it from happening? Do subsequent headers override old headers?

C# - Modify Request.Headers["Referer"] When Performing Response.Redirect?

Aug 11, 2010

In the web app (C#, ASP.NET) I am working on at the moment, the value in Request.Headers["Referer"] can determine things like custom style. I have created a custom page with a drop down menu to test this functionality. So when the selected index changes, the value selected should be set in the Request.Headers["Referer"] then will be redirected (Response.Redirect), the receiving page will then pick up the value in Request.Headers["Referer"] and adjust the styling accordingly. However I haven't been able to set value for Request.Headers["Referer"]. Is it possible at all?

Website 1 sets the value in Request.Headers["Referer"], e.g. www.xyz.com and before doing Response.Redirect to www.website2.com

Website 2 picks up value in Request.Headers["Referer"], in this case www.xyz.com and do what it needs to do, i.e. styling etc.

Web Forms :: Access The Custom Headers Created With System.Net.Mail?

Sep 13, 2010

I've created some custom headers for my emails. I've used a breakpoint to see that they are being added to the collection correctly. I don't understand how to access these from the email that's generated though. I'm currently dropping the emails into a pickup directory on my local machine and viewing them with Windows Mail. I have "view all" headers checked in Windows mail but still don't see them when I open my emails in the pick up directory.

how to access the headers that I added? Below is an example of how I did it. I'm hoping to add things like name, address, phone... etc, and then have them visible in the email.

Is this even the correct use of custom headers?

Custom HTTP Response C# And Ajax?

Apr 4, 2011

I'm trying to query a database that contains information about a "ticket" using jQuery's .ajax() method.

$.ajax({
type: 'GET',
url: 'Preview.ashx',
data: 'ticketID=' + ticketID,
success: function (data) {
// 'data' should be a row from the database, so it should be like an
// array that contains each column of the row
// do stuff with this data
}
});
... so that all works fine. I'm having trouble with the data variable. On the server side, I do...
// get the ticket ID from the POST parameter
int ticketID = context.Request["ticketID"] != null ? Convert.ToInt32(context.Request["ticketID"]) : -1;
if (ticketID >= 0) {
// grab the data from the database, getInfo() will retrieve the row
// in the DB that corresponds to the ticket ID given, returning an
// ArrayList with all of the information
ArrayList theTicket = getInfo(context, ticketID);
// now, I need to somehow return this information so that I could deal with it
// in the 'success' callback function above
return;
} else {
// something went wrong with the 'newTicket' POST parameter
context.Response.ContentType = "text/plain";
context.Response.Write("Error with 'ticketID' POST parameter.
");
return;
}
return;

I've debugged this enough to be sure that the ArrayList contains the correct information. Now I just need to return it. How would I do this? How would I return the data in the ArrayList? Is it possible to structure the response so that I could do data.ID, data.otherColumnName, etc... in the callback function to access the different fields?

Response - Get Custom Http Header?

May 14, 2010

I have an asp.net appliction on the one server. There I've added code on server-side in Page_Load:

Response.AddHeader("key", "password-key-from-hotel");

On the client side I have a form:
<form ... action="www.link-to-another-domaint" >
<input type="hidden" id="asd" value="fgh" >
....
</form>
<script type="text/javascript">
document.forms[0].submit();
</script>

Then on the other domain - there is also my other application - I'm trying to get the hedaer "key" by this code:

Request.Headers["key"].ToString();

But there is no such header. Is there is a desicion? Where is my mistake?

Custom SOAP Response Of ASMX Service

<ServiceResponse>

How To Configure IIS To Serve 404 Response With Custom Content

Mar 31, 2010

I would like to serve a custom 404 page from ASP.NET MVC. I have the route handler and all the infrastructure set up to ensure that nonexistent routes are handled by a single action:

public ActionResult Handle404()
{
Response.StatusCode = 404;
return View("NotFound");
}

Problem: IIS serves back its own content (some predefined message) when I set Response.StatusCode to 404 before returning the content.

On the VS development web server, this works as intended - the status code of the HTTP response is 404 while my content (the NotFound view) is served.

I believe that when the IIS processing pipeline sees that the application returns 404, it simply replaces the whole response with its own.

What setting in IIS affects this behavior?

I do not have access to the IIS installation so I can not investigate this - however, I can ask the hosting provider to tweak the configuration for me if I know what exactly needs to be changed.

Http - Writing A Custom NTLM Challenge/response In C#?

Jan 18, 2011

I know that you can enable NTLM authentication in an ASP.Net app using:

<authentication mode="Windows" />

However - I need to handle Forms, HTTP and other custom authentications in the same app, so ASP.Net's limited built-in support is no use.

The NTLM handshake should be fairly simple:

Request - [unauthenticated - no user info passed]
Response - 401 Unauthorized
WWW-Authenticate: NTLM
Request - Authorization: NTLM <base64-encoded type-1-message>

[code]...

I need to parse type-1 and type-3 messages and generate a type-2 message.

The structure for those messages is well documented but fairly complex - it seems very messy to write my own message generators and parsers. I think the methods to read and write these messages should already be in .Net, but I haven't been able to find them.

Web Forms :: Redirect In Custom Event Where Response Or Server Is Not Available?

Feb 24, 2011

I am using a custom event in third party library for my asp.net project. When the event happens, I need to redirect to another page. Problem is that since it is custom event, Server.Transfer or Response.Redirect can't be used (I tried but got "response is not available in this context"). So I think best way would be to trigger post back in the event and redirect in page_load event on appropriate conditions. Is this right approach or is there any better idea? And, how can I trigger postback?

C# - Does Custom Errors Override The Actual HTTP Response Code

Mar 28, 2011

If I were to specify a page for redirect using the ASP.NET Custom Errors feature, would my application still spit out the HTTP status code for that particular error?

For example if had a line in my web.config that had all Internal Server Errors redirect to Errors/500.aspx and then I encountered a 500 error, I would then be redirected to my custom Errors/500.aspx page. Will my application still respond with a HTTP 500 at any point in this exchange?

Custom Validation Not Working With Delete Buttons?

Oct 11, 2010

In a ListView, I have a CustomValidator set up to validate a field whenever a button with CommandName="Delete" is clicked.

<ItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="NameTextBox" Text=<%# Eval("Name") %> runat="server" />
<asp:Button ID="DeleteButton" Text="Delete" CommandName="Delete" ValidationGroup="Delete" runat="server" />
<asp:CustomValidator ValidationGroup="Delete" SetFocusOnError="true" Display="Dynamic" OnServerValidate="CustomValidator_ServerValidate" runat="server">You can't delete this.</asp:CustomValidator>
</ItemTemplate>

However, the error message is never displayed and the processing continues. What's strange is that the custom validation method is called, finds the field, and properly sets up e.IsValid to false. It does not matter whether I check Page.IsValid or not, because the error message is not displayed anyway. It works if I remove the CommandName="Delete" from the button.

With Google I found the following solution, which seems to indicate someone has had a similar issue:

[URL]

But I want to make sure that this solution is the way to go. I mean, is custom validation really not supposed to work with a delete button in a databound control, seriously?

Implementing Custom Delete By Adding To My ASPxGridView GridViewColumnCustomButton?

Sep 2, 2010

Im implementing custrom delete by adding to my ASPxGridView GridViewColumnCustomButton.

Then on my GridView I handle ClientSideEvent

<ClientSideEvents CustomButtonClick="function(s, e) { customButton_OnClick(s, e); }" />

JS:function customButton_OnClick(s, e) {
if (e.buttonID == "customButtonId") {
e.processOnServer = confirm("Really want to delete?");[code]....

now on the server side I user linq to delete specified row and then submit changes to my DataContext and then DataBind() on my grid.

Problem is that sometimes standard ASPxGridView loading panel is shown for about 1 second ant then my row dissapears so it behaves properly but sometimes loading panel stops mooving. and I need to move mouse over my grid or click button so that my Grid is updated(row dissapears).
