Using ASP.NET is it possible to make a request and get only response headers? I have to do a request to a big file, but I only need the response headers, i dont care about the content of the file.
I would like to know if there is something similar to get_headers from php (http://php.net/manual/en/function.get-headers.php).

I read somewhere the you can't remove response headers once they've been added. Given that, I'm wondering where in a standard ASP.NET web forms application do response headers get added initially. In the web app (C#, ASP.NET) I am working on at the moment, the value in Request.Headers["Referer"] can determine things like custom style. I have created a custom page with a drop down menu to test this functionality. So when the selected index changes, the value selected should be set in the Request.Headers["Referer"] then will be redirected (Response.Redirect), the receiving page will then pick up the value in Request.Headers["Referer"] and adjust the styling accordingly. However I haven't been able to set value for Request.Headers["Referer"]. Is it possible at all?
Website 1 sets the value in Request.Headers["Referer"], e.g. www.xyz.com and before doing Response.Redirect to www.website2.com
Website 2 picks up value in Request.Headers["Referer"], in this case www.xyz.com and do what it needs to do, i.e. styling etc.
I have never work with a repeater and after a lot of research I got to the conclusion that this is the control I need to use for what I have to do. I need display data but I will need 2 headers and after some sort of amount of records the headers will repeat again. I have a static method that I use to control REST styled HTTP codes when my mvc application encounters an exception.

This is static becuase then I can call it within an action or inside a filter. The problem I am having is that when I call RaiseException inside a filter, it stills goes into the requested action. Response.End() doesn't seem to have any effect. Any clues on how I can get Response.End() to work when called?
Is it necessary to call Response.End() after Response.Redirect(url) Update for all the answers. Because some answers say that it's necessary and others say no, I have searched more and have found in msdn under remarks the following: Redirect calls End which raises a ThreadAbortException exception upon completion.

By and large this works as intended. However, I'm in a situation where I'm using an ActionResult on an MVC Controller to serve up files to the user agent:

To be more exact, the action method returns new EmptyResult() after the Response.TransmitFile() call. This works exactly as intended without the Response.Filter modification.
In this situation, the response entity reaches the user agent garbled and unintelligible. FireFox's Poster addon shows empty entities or jumbled entities coming back.

I've build a MP4Handler. The Mp4 hander selects a correct file from a url.The system works if you work with 'normal' mp4 files.But the problem is the MP4 files are genrated by another program, so i think there's the problem.Right now i returned a test file, then it woks great!Do i return the other file, i get a 412 error if i use it in IE (he shows a 400 error because i deleted the 412 error in the IIS i thought maybe that solves the problem). In IE it doesn't work, but in firefox it works great!In my Fiddler result, the first movie (guid url) is from firefox, and works great. The second with the text/html result (selected row) is from IIS.How can i solve this problem?Or is this the problem?:This entity tag is not recognized by IIS. In download method I prepare a url something like [URL] I redirect the user to that url (which opens that image.gif in the browser) I see the image opened in the browser , but not as SAVE AS widow to save at a location. I have heard that I can add HEADERS in Response which can force SAVE AS dialog to save the file. how those headers re added?

The web client sends a request containing If-None-Match and/or If-Modified-Since headers but context.Request.Headers.Get("If-None-Match") or context.Request.Headers.Get("If-Modified-Since") is null in the handler.
The same script works in my local development machine but it doesn't work in the online machine (both are running IIS7 on Win 2008, .NET 3.5)

I'd like to apply CSS such that my headers are fixed. What styling can I add to make it work?
How can you have a fixed header on a DataGrid or GridViw and allow the grid to scroll? I'd like to avoid a solution that uses another separate table for headers.
View 1 RepliesGiven all the research I've done, I don't think this is possible - am I correct? I've been all over the web looking for ways to do this. My grid needs to scroll vertically, horizontally, sort, and go into edit mode. I've been able to do the "cheap" solution where a table sits above the grid to hold the column names, but this does not work well with putting the grid into edit mode or scrolling horizontally. In both cases, the columns become out of synch with their headers. My organization will not pay for a grid, so JQGrid is out. So, since the 'expression' capability has been removed from IE8, we are left with no possibilities for fixed column headers?
I'm not advanced enough in JQuery to do this...but wouldn't it be possible to create a JQuery function that copies the grid header row to a div that sits above the grid, so that the headers are always visible? (And hide the original grid header row). Anyone want to take a crack at it? Maybe I'll try but it will probably take me too long.
