How To Determine The Following Default Web Config Values
May 18, 2010
I've been getting "Connection forcibly closed" errors and in researching a resolution, I have seen to with the following web.config options, which currently are not set in my web app.
Before I change them, I'd like to know what they are currently set to.
how to read these values from .NET code, preferably VB.NET, though C# is fine.
<httpRuntime
executionTimeout="90"
maxRequestLength="4096"
useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="false"
minFreeThreads="8"
minLocalRequestFreeThreads="4"
appRequestQueueLimit="100"
/>

When I open my ASP.NET site in IIS and try to open the .NET Trust Levels, I get an error message:
.NET Trust Levels There was an error while performing this operation.
Details:
Filename: ?C:inetpubwwwrootmyappweb.config
Line number: 445
Error: This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"),or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false".
I've checked a few places, but I haven't found anything that seems like it would be locking that setting. Is there a systematic way of determining where that setting is locked?
I'm using IIS 7.5 and .NET 3.5 sp1.

point me towards any .NET API that will let me iterate the default documents (default.aspx, index.html, etc.) for the web site? I know I can parse web.config, but that doesn't always contain all of the default documents.

if there is a way to determine if the default document has been served using .net? I thought perhaps something would be available in the server variables, but I can't seem to find anything that distinguishes between [URL] and [URL]

I am trying to determine if the user selected a checkbox for each row in a ListView after hitting a submit button. If so, I need to get the record ID and one other piece of information from that row to insert their selection into a table. I would use a GridView but the questions must be grouped by their categories with the category names displayed followed by their corresponding questions (from what I've read ListView makes this easier).
I tried the code in this forum posting
[URL]
The problem I am encountering so far is that it keeps returning null even if the Checkbox is checked.
Here is my code:
foreach (ListViewDataItem lvi in lvQuestions.Items)
{
// Find the checkbox in each row
CheckBox cb = (CheckBox)lvQuestions.FindControl("cbQuestion");
// If the checkbox is ticked
[Code]....

I read an article here to find the solution to my problem. But I found that it is not working for me. Whenever I tries to use any function I have to add same namespace on every page. by doing using System.Web.UI . Can I also use it for namespace that is being created along with an application. i.e. Library is an another namespace that lies in App_Code folder not as an assembly.
[code]......
Is there any way to get them available at Code Behind Page

I am creating an ASP.NET 2.0 application (using C#), and for some reason when I create the initial application it doesn't create the web.config file. Is this normal? I haven't touched ASP.NET in some years so I am a little rusty. I tried creating the web.config manually but can't seem to get it just right. How can I create an ASP.NET application with a bundled web.config file?

Where do I find the machineKey config section for ASP.NET?
I don't have one in my application Web.config, there isn't one in the root Web.config and there isn't one in my machine.config.
Does this mean there is some other default hardcoded into ASP.NET? If so, what are the defaults? (For .NET 2 and 4)
Having read this: [URL]
i was expecting to find something like this, somewhere:
<machineKey
validationKey="AutoGenerate,IsolateApps"
decryptionKey="AutoGenerate,IsolateApps"
/>
Edit: the 1.1 docs seem fairly clear wrt default values: [URL] but the 4 docs are rather ambiguous [URL]

I m trying to get SMTP settings from standard "web.config". I have properly filled "system.net" section there. But when i m calling
Configuration config = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("~\web.config");MailSettingsSectionGroup settings = (MailSettingsSectionGroup)config.GetSectionGroup(@"system.net/mailSettings");
I get the error:

Still, I am able getting standard settings from very same "web.config" as follows

How can I get SMTP settings the same way without explicitly opening the config?

I'd like to set the default content-type for web pages in my ASP.NET MVC application to text/html.
I know this can be done by adding a ContentType="text/html" to all of my <%Page%> elements, but I'd prefer to use the web.config instead. How can I do that?
Edit: I know that "text/HTML" is the ASP.NET default, but for unknown reasons Opera still tries to parse my web site as XHML unless I explicitly set the content-type in my <%Page%> element.

I have what I think is a very common scenario but I've searched quite some time now and can't seem to find the answer! I have a standard web app that has a web.config in the root directory. I have some account management pages in a subdirectory called Accounts. Any timeouts at the root level work fine - the user is redirected to Default.aspx as indicated in my Forms authentication. My problem is when the users are in the Accounts (or any) subdirectory and they go off for coffee and the app times out. On the next click, they get an error saying "Accounts/Default.aspx" cannot be found. And Default.aspx is not there as it sits at the root level. It's trying to redirect them to the default login URL as defined in the web.config file but that doesn't work when the user is sitting in a subdirectory. I don't want to put a default page in this any every sub directory. I have tried putting a web.config file in the subdirectory but it throws the error about machine to application level/IIS.

I have a repository function called getList which retrieves certain information that gets posted to it from a form. My form has 6 fields, and a user can enter searvh criteria in any or all the fields. According to what he has entered, I must execute a SQL string to retrieve matching information.
I have the following:
[Code]....
But, if a user enters only a surname, my query will return no results. Is there a way format my sql string to allow default values, or maybe build the sql string at runtime. In MS-SQL it was easy to do, but how would one do it in LINQ??

When I make a routing rule like
routes.MapRoute(
"Rule",
"Home_{action}/{id}",
new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id="" }
);
"Home_MyAction" works (no id here). But with
routes.MapRoute(
"Rule",
"Home_{action}_{id}",
new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id="" }
);
"Home_MyAction_" doesn't work (404 error).
Why is it so?

I need to store an escaped html string in a key in web.config using the KeyValueConfigurationElement.Save method built into framework 3.5. But when I try to do so,it keeps escaping my ampersands.
Code looks like this:
strHTML = DecodeFTBInput(FTB1.Text)
FTB1.Text is a string of HTML, like this: <b><font color="#000000">Testing</font></b>
DecodeFTPInput uses the String.Replace() method to change < and > to < and >, and " to ".
Given the above string and function, let's say strHTML now contains the following:
<b><font color="#000000">Testing</font></b>
Of course I can manually edit web.config to store the correct value, but I need the authenticated admin user to be able to change the html themselves.
The problem is that when I try to save this string into its key in web.config, it escapes all ampersands
as & which ruins the string.
How can I get around this?

I've a windows service that will be calling an exe file (created from a console application). In this console application, I would take some values (especially connectionstring values) from the App.Config file of the console application.
But when this application is called from the windows service, it doesn't take the values from that app.config file. So, I added the same values in the app.config file of the windows service too..... But even here it doesn't take the values.
