How To Get The Url To The Current Action (after Modifying Some Route Data)

I'm localising a site via a Change Language control in the master page. I need to render the control with the current url you're on in each of the different languages.
So if you're on http://site.com/en/Home/About and you change the language to french, I need to direct you to http://site.com/fr/Home/About.
The localisation code works on the route data language property, so I've been trying to figure out how I can:
Get access to the current action (with all original parameters) Get the url to the current action (with all original parameters) with the route data changed.
I've tried passing the ViewContext from the parent into the UserControl, which gives me access to the route data but I can't figure out how to get the language routed url from that.

I'm creating an ASP.NET MVC 2 (RTM) project that uses areas. The Index action of the Home controller of one area needs to use RenderAction to generate a sub-section of the page. The action called is also defined in the same Home controller. So the call should just be:
<% Html.RenderAction("List") %>
However, I get an exception:A public action method 'List' was not found on controller 'RareBridge.Web.Areas.Events.Controllers.HomeController'.
Note that I'm not in the "Events" area! I'm in a completely different area. If I remove the "Events" home controller, then the exception still occurs but names a different controller (still not the one I want it to call).
I've also tried providing the controller name and area to the RenderAction method, but the same exception occurs. What is going on here?
BTW: I am using Autofac as my IoC container

I have a URL /products/search where Products is the controller and Search is the action. This url contains a search form whose action attribute is (and should always be) /products/search eg;
<%using( Html.BeginForm( "search", "products", FormMethod.Post))
This works ok until I introduce paging in the search results. For example if I search for "t" I get a paged list. So on page 2 my url looks like this :
/products/search/t/2
It shows page 2 of the result set for the search "t". The problem is that the form action is now also /products/search/t/2. I want the form to always post to /products/search.
My routes are :routes.MapRoute( "Products search",
"products/search/{query}/{page}",
new { controller = "Products", action = "Search", query = "", page = 1 });
routes.MapRoute( "Default",
"{controller}/{action}/{id}",
new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" });
How can I force Html.BeginForm(), or more specifically Url.Action( "Search", "Products"), to ignore the /query/page in the url?

I have a details page containing a form field named UserId. On the same page i have another search form with a field also named UserId.
I am using Html.LabelFor(vm > vm.UserId) and Html.TextBoxFor(sm > sm.UserId) on the two different view models, vm being the view model and sm being the search model. (Yes, the UserId property on the two models has identical names - because they are the same domain property.
When i navigate to the page, the populated UserId on the vm is inserted into BOTH form fields named UserId by MVC. Even the sm.UserId are empty.
That is my initial problem. There are a few ways ti avoid that. My solution was to use the Prefix flag for the sm.

My problem is that MVC can't map the Search.UserId (because of the .) to fit the UserId (prefixed with Search) in the action shown above.
So it seems like MVC has a prefix-feature, that are actually nok fully supported through the Route-handler.
Ofcourse i could rename the Search.UserId to Search_UserId, but then the name dosent match the name MVC expects in the recieving action above. (expects Search.UserId) Renaming The UserId property of the search model would fix the issue, but since it is the same value in the domain, this seems like a workaround.

I have site culture in URLs like this:

And it works like a charm with a little help from custom MvcHttpHandler that sets current thread's UI culture on every request based on route value. My problem is how do I automatically add the language route value from current request to all outgoing links? E.g. when page /EN/Foo/Bar is requested, I would like this

To automatically generate the same result as this:

And of course the same for all other helpers like BeginForm() etc. In my current code base there are already > 1000 occasions where these helpers are used, and requiring .AddRouteValue every time is very fragile as some developer will forget to use it with 100 % certainty. I hope the only solution is not creating custom Html helpers for everything?

I have a user control in a modal popup for login form. It's ajax post so when login is successfull it doesn't update the rest of the page. Would like to just redirect the user to thier current page but not 100% on how to do this from the accountController.

I'm stuck with a problem of which I can not imagine I am the first person having to deal with it. Yet, Google comes up with nothing useful and neither does SO, so here I am. I'm using ASP.NET MVC1 with a sitemap. Using an html helper I create a navigation menu that highlights the current selected option in the Site.Master page. Common scenario and easily done by using:

That's all fine and dandy, however, my problem is that I have 1 controller with multiple actions. Consider the following scenario:
Accounts
* clients
* suppliers
* maintainance
They would all be in my AccountController, doing a search that is identical but with a different AccountTypeId value. When I read the SiteMap.CurrentNode value it gives me merely the info that I am using the AccountController, but not which action I called. I've tried a whole bunch of things but I can not get the action that was requested. I hope I gave enough info there to give you an idea of the scenario. If you need anything else, let me know.

I am calling a file download action from javascript:

The controller returns a file:

This action has a pretty high likelyhood of throwing an exception (or at least not being able to return the file).
Due to the nature of the application (which contains a lot of dynamic content), I can't really redirect to an error page in this situation. The current page needs to stay open somehow.
So I'm ideally looking for something like a javascript pop-up, but afaik this isn't going to be possible since I don't know any way to return a javacript instruction in a non-ajaxed controller call. If I display an error page I need to force it to open in a new window some how. Is there any possible solution to this problem?

I tried to mix asp.net 4 webfrom and ASp.Net MVC 3. I add required lines in webconfig, but I've issues implementing route in global.asax
Currently I use several routes for webfroms. routs template are like below

I have a url that I want to map routing to:

where tabvalue is one of: "personal", "professional", "values" or nothing.
I want to map it to a route like:
Member/Edit/{tab}
But my problem is - I don't know how to specify such constraints. I'm trying this regex:
^[personal|professional|values]{0,1}$
but it only works when I use url
[URL]
[URL]
and doesn't work for
[URL]
how to specify the correct constraint?
P.S. I'm not using MVC, just asp.net WebForms

I have a gridview that has allowPaging and AllowSorting set to true. It is bound to a sqldatasource with the selectCommand firing a sql query. The sqldatasource has EnableCaching = true, and caching duration = "60". The idea is to run the paging, sorting, etc from the cache.
A separate dataUpdate event updates the data that is being loaded in the grid view, but I am not able to see the change in the gridview data till 30 seconds (caching duration) .
What is the best way to force refresh the gridview data by the dataUpdate event?
I came across this artice that tells to use CacheKeyDependency, but when I implemented it, the gridview gets refreshed at every dataUpdate event, but also the paging and sorting fires the sqldatasource Selectcommand sql query. I want this query to be fired only on dataUpdate.

Was looking at asp.net mvc complex routing for tree path as an example of how to define a custom route handler for my MVC app. Essentially, I want to give the end user ultimate flexibility in defining the URL for any given page, so I provide them with a field in the interface to specify their own custom URL.
My custom route handler is basically a wild-card handler. It will do a lookup and if it finds a match, map it accordingly. However, if no match is found, I want it to fall back and find the next rule that matches in the global.asax. Is that possible? Or do I essentially need to code the mappings that used to exist in my global.asax into my custom route handler?

I have a very simple sub routine which I call from RowDataBind that adds a sort arrow image to the cell if a SortExpression exists. It works great except for the problem that if the gridview renders a wide table, the header text wraps and the image appears on a different line to the text. Therefore, I need to modify my subroutine so that if the header text is only one word in length, then a white-space:nowrap rule is placed on the header cell of that column.Sound really easy, but I just cannot get it to work. For some reason the white-space:nowrap rule is being added to EVERY header cell, regardless of the text inside it.

I'm implement Comet in Asp.net MVC, I used timer to keep Async request in server, Async request will complete when timer elapsed 1 minute and response to client (to avoid 404 error) and then reconnect to Async Controller. I also wanna execute some Synchronous action during Async request was holding, but the problem is: When an Async action was executed and hold by using timer, the Sync Action wasn't called until Async action (comet long-live request) completed. I did test with firefox 3.6 many times, but the result is the same, so strange, Do you know why ? I have a sub some questions : To implement comet, using timer (response after some minutes elapsed) or thread (response after several time sleeping thread) to hold async request, which is better?

I am desiging a master and details page from a search page..user can search for something and I need to display the result in jqgrid if the result has more than 1 row or record.. if the result is just one record then i have to directly send then to details page by skiping grid page... I do have an action method for results page and one more action method for Jqgrid data..i am trying to check the row count for the database result and trying to redirect to details action results..but its not working at all..and showing an empty jqgrid..

Lets say I have a simple controller for ASP.NET MVC I want to test. I want to test that a controller action (Foo, in this case) simply returns a link to another action (Bar, in this case).How would you test TestController.Foo? (either the first or second link)
My implementation has the same link twice. One passes the url throw ViewData[]. This seems more testable to me, as I can check the ViewData collection returned from Foo(). Even this way though, I don't know how to validate the url itself without making dependencies on routing.The controller:
