I have an IHttpHandler that implements IRequiresSessionState. Everything works fine on most servers but there are 2 servers (one IIS 7.0 and one IIS 7.5) that give me null sessions. Aspx pages are fine on every server. I've searched for hours and failed to find anything that is not related to IRequiresSessionState.

let me see if I can explain this clearly. I have a gridview control
and I am trying to use the Edit function. In my gridview, there are numerous rows. I pick one to change and click Edit. I then see the boss name in my gridview and click "Change". When I click Change, I'm expecting two fields to appear, one is a label, the other is a DropDownList. I get this error when I click:
System.NullReferenceException was unhandled by user code
Message=Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I decided to use the CalendarExtender on a project and I converted it from VS 2005 to Web Developer 2010 Express. I initially added the AJAX toolkit for ASP.NET 4.0 and the calendar extender worked fine. However, I realised that the server didn't have ASP.NET 4.0 installed and I thought it would be simpler to add the toolkit for 3.5 instead and change the target framework to 3.5. I tried and then the CalendarExtender did't work at all. When you click the textbox nothing happens. There is the error on page - 'sys.extended.ui.textboxwrapper is null or not an object'
I tried switching the project back to 4.0 and using the other one and that no longer works for some reason. The same in 2008 Web Developer Express. I've clearly done something wrong along the way, but I can't work out what it is.
Here's the source for a page on a test Web Developer 2008 Express project.

I got an ashx file to create an image. I am referencing it via web.config like this:
<add verb="*" path="captcha.ashx" validate="false" type="eVoila.Security.Captcha.CaptchaImageHandler, eVoila" />
My handler looks like that:
[Code]....
Actually the handler never gets called. I already searched the forums and tried some tips and hints. But nothing of that worked. Try to call the url via[URL]

I made a custom handler that derives from MvcHandler. I have my routes using a custom RouteHandler that returns my new handler for GetHttpHandler(), and I override ProcessRequest() in my custom handler. The call to GetHttpHandler is triggering a breakpoint and my handler's constructor is definitely being called, but BeginProcessRequest() is being called on the base MvcHandler instead of ProcessRequest().
Why are the async methods being called when I haven't done anything to call them? I don't want asynchronous handling, and I certainly didn't do anything explicit to get it. My controllers all derive from Controller, not AsyncController.
I don't have the source code with me right now, but I can add it later if needed. I was hoping someone might know some of the reasons why BeginProcessRequest might be called when it's not wanted.

I have an IHttpHandler that I would like to hook into the OutputCache support so I can offload cached data to the IIS kernel. I know MVC must do this somehow, I found this in OutputCacheAttribute:
public override void OnResultExecuting(ResultExecutingContext filterContext) {
if (filterContext == null) {
throw new ArgumentNullException("filterContext");
}

I am trying to implement an IHttpHandler. I have defined an appropriate class but the debug web server (you know, the one you get if you hit f5 in Visual Studio) is responding with "Can't Display Page".I looked here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms228090%28v=VS.90%29.aspx to learn how to configure the handler, and it seems there are different ways for IIS6 and 7. But the process is put something in the web.config and then set it up in IIS Manager. However, that is a deployment issue. I want to be able to run it in the test server, and I don't know how to do this second step in the test server.I put the following in my web.config:
<httpHandlers>
<add verb="*" path="*.sample"
type="MyNamespace.Code.HelloWorldHandler"/>
</httpHandlers>
HelloWorldHandler is the code from the link above (wrapped in MyNamespace.)
Can someone let me know how to configure this correctly for the development server?

I'm working on a reporting script which runs a number of reports (pdf) on button click. The reports are created on the web server then I'd like the user to be given the option to download the files. I have worked out the script for downloading one file from the server. But I'm not sure how to download multiple files? (there will probably be about 50)
After I run one report I redirect the user to a http handler script.
Response.Redirect("Download.ashx?ReportName=" + "WeeklySummary.pdf");
public class Download : IHttpHandler {
public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
{

I have a IHttpHandler that acts as a source to a jQuery Autocomplete input field. In the constructor of the handler I generate an index that remains fairly static between request (needs to be rebuilt maybe once a day).How can I cache the the index between calls? Debugging indicates that the constructor is called for each request. I've set IsReusable to "false".

I want to create an HTTP handler within my project. To do this, I created a new class, and tried to implement IHttpHandler.
Each time I do this, I get the error 'End of statement expected'.
I know that normally you can create a new class library and create a class to implement a handler. But why is it not possible to do this in an existing web project?

First, I'm looking for a a small example of how to handle a series of RESTful URLs, such as /Account/{userName} and /Account/{userName}/Profile with a single HttpHandler. At this time, I'm not interested in embracing MVC or using the REST Starter Kit. Should I place the HttpHandler class in a Class Library? Should I publish to the root of the RESTful URL?
My second issue stems from the fact that my ASP.NET hosting is done through a web-hosting company. Will I need to ask their tech team to configure IIS for me? Is that normal practice?

I want to implement a restful service in ASP.NET. I want it to be compatible with .Net 2.0 and IIS 5+. I am constrained to not use ASP.NET MVC or REST starter kit. By reading on internet I have learned that it can be implemented using HTTPHandlers. The problem is, the request will come in as a POST request. And I want to URL to be like:
http://abc.com/MyService/MyMethod1/
and
http://abc.com/MyService/MyMethod2/

I created an application and implemented IHTTPHandler for all incoming request ending with ".aspx" extension.Under "ProcessRequest" module, I am creating an instance of HttpContext (with URL attributes different from my application's URL i.e. if I am working on localhost then speciying Yahoo.com as its URL) and assigning it to "context" which comes as method argument.After redirection, an error is generated. Also, the custom HTTPContext is not passed to the requested page (default.aspx, in my case.)Code is as follows.

I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.

I have 2 table Table A, Table B.
Table A - Parent Table
ID - Uniqueidentifier not null(PK)
Table B -Child Table
ID - uniqueidentifier null(FK, TableA)
I have a stored procedure to insert data into Table B, but when I tried to insert a null value into column ID of table B, this error came up:
The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_tableB_tableA". The conflict occurred in database "database name", table "table A", column 'ID'.
The statement has been terminated.
The insert statement in asp.net is like so:
sqlcommand.parameter.add(New Sqlparameter("ID", Nothing))
I am guessing adding nothing to the null value column is the problem, but i don't know how to fix it... The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_tableB_tableA". The conflict occurred in database "database name", table "table A", column 'ID'.

I have a problem with a SessionVariable. I will explain what is happening:
1. From the default.aspx I send Session["LoginByAdmin"] = "Dummy"; and then redirect to this page where I have the code below. So the Page_Load sees that this Session["LoginByAdmin"] != null and enter this page. This works fine !
2. In the Page_Load, I later fill a ListBox1 with foldernames.
3. With Button1_Click1, I will now delete the choosen Folder in the ListBox1 wich works fine the first time and the ListBox updates the new existing folders in the ListBox. (I have wrapped this inside an updatepanel)
The problems comes now when I try to delete a choosen folder in the ListBox1 the second time in a row. When I select a Folder in the ListBox1 and now Press Button1, I will be redirected to "Default.aspx". This meens that this code is running: (That meens that Session["LoginByAdmin"] == null and I have not set this to null anywhere. This is my big question how this variable can be = null here?
if (Session["LoginByAdmin"] == null)
Response.Redirect("Default.aspx");
break;

I currently work on a timesheet portal. One of the features is that as employees are submitting requests an email is sent out to the supervisor that lets the supervisor see that they have a request to approve. In this email is a link to the request that the supervisor can click on to take them to the link.Currently it looks like this.
http://timeportal.fake/viewrequest.aspx?ID=555&RequestType=2&Role=5
the way it was written is that with the information that is given a user could manipulate the system to allow them to approve one of their own requests as their supervisor. While this has yet to happen, I want to prevent this from happening. Is there a way to create the link without giving away all the information? When you login currently the system keeps all the info in a session. But when you try and follow the link the system would take you to the request page as an employee, when it should be supervisor. This confuses the user and they logout and back in going through the menus to get to the requests and in the right state.At this point I would rather just have them goto the main menu, but that does not seem to be an option that everyone can be happy with. What other options could we try?

I've read all of the examples and I've yet to figure out how to get information out of the web.config file using applicationSettings (as opposed to appSettings). I have the following for my configSections:
<configSections>
<sectionGroup name="applicationSettings" type="System.Configuration.ApplicationSettingsGroup, System, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089">
<section name="ExcelREST.FDAllUpAvailabilityTable.Settings"
[code]...
Now, I suspect that I may be making an assumption that's not valid; namely, that the appropriate classes will be generated to access my configuration information by Visual Studio (2010). I've simplified the example in that I really want to have several <section name="..." > within configSections.What (probably obvious) step am I missing here? (I'm coding in C# and this is an ASP.NET 4.0 MVC application.) I'm about ready to bag it and just go with the simplistic appSettings.
