And found out that in my JavaScript I don't have any WebService in my IntelliSense. Such thing happens if I create WebService and WebSite either in one common solution or in the different.

how to be able to access these objects within the web service method. I need to be able to iterate though all the people from the javascripts array so that I can do some other functions, such as validation, adding them to a database, etc.
I am using DotNetOpenAuth in my ASP.Net Website. I have modified it to work with Facebook Connect as well, using the same methods and database structures. Now I have come across a problem.
I have added a Facebook Connect button to a login page. From that HTML button, I have to somehow pull information from the Facebook Connect connection and pass it into a method to authenticate the user. The way I am currently doing this is by:
Calling a Javascript Function on the onlogin function of the FBML/HTML Facebook Connect button. The javascript function calls a Web service to login, which it does correctly. The web service calls my data access layer to login. And here is the problem: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie is set at the data access layer. The Cookie is beyond the scope of the user's page and therefore is not set in the browser. This means that the user is authenticated, but the user's browser is never notified. So, I need to figure out if this is a bad way of doing what I need or if there is a better way to accomplish what I need. I am just not sure and have been trying to find answers for hours.
I am planning to use a Javascript call to a WebService to retrieve data from the database. At the moment I am using Ajax to do this. But since the Ajax is slowing down the performance of my application. I have read in some article that even though Ajax only refreshes the Update panel contents, Ajax does a full round trip to the server. What I need to know is how can I populate a Grid from data coming from a WebService via a Javascript call.

It works fine. But when parameters Description or Titre contain the ' character , no call!!!
Does anyone have an idea how can i make it work even with apostrophe character in Titre and/or Description?
I've tried a bunch of different examples and still can't get this to work. I have a jQuery GalleryView control I'm using and I simply want to log impressions. I set up a webservice that works, but I can't figure out how to get it to work in javascript. I have verified that the webservice is working as expected.

This is working fine. The problem is when the page causes a postback before the end of the execution of the webservice's method. When that happens, the succeeded callback method never gets called. Does anyone know if there's a workaround to this?

However, since the web service is called asynchronously, it doesn't wait until I get the return value from the web service, before it continues again. This is a bit of a problem for me, since the web service is in a for-loop. How do I make the Javascript wait until I hear back from the web service, before letting Javascript continue the for-loop?

I am calling a web service via Javascript. I tried it first in a web page that does not have a Masterpage and it worked perfectly. Then I moved everything over to a web page that does use a Masterpage, and I get a "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object required" on the javascript statement that calls the web service. I get this error "The server method xxx timed out." calling a WebService that internally does a hard query to the database, and takes some time. I use this method to change the webservice timeout, but it does not seems to do anything (the timeout errors appears in less than a second).

View 3 RepliesPinging back to a webservice in ajax from the client keeps the user's session alive, I don't want this to happen. More extensive summary For a website we're developing, we need the client to ping back (in js) to a webservice (ASMX) on the server (IIS7.5). This happens to let the server know that the user is still on the site, and hasn't browsed away to another site. This is as our customer wants to let users lock records, but if they browse away to other sites, then let other people take over those locked records. Perhaps the distinction between the client being on the site but inactive and on another site seems unimportant, but that's kinda irrelevant, I don't get to write the UI spec, I just have to make it work.
My problem is this, the ping stops the user from being timed out on the server through the standard forms authentication timeout mechanism. Not surprising as there is that 30 second ping in the background keeping the session alive. Even though we want to know if the user is still on the site, we want the normal forms authentication timeout mechanism to be honoured. I thought I might be able to fix this by removing the ASP.NET_SessionId and .ASPXAUTH cookies in the XMLHttpRequest that is the server ping, but I can't figure out how to do this. This is how my web service & method are defined:

I was trying with the setRequestHeader, but that just appends to the header rather than overwrites the header, and IIS is happy to ignore that junk I added. I'm thinking maybe I should be trying to do this at the server end, someone take PingWS.asmx out of the loop so that it doesn't keep the session active, but I'm not sure how to do this. Although the title of the question is focused on clearing the cookie in the header, I'd be super happy if anyone points out that I'm being really stupid and there is actually a much better way of trying to do what I'm doing.
I'm thinking at this stage maybe I need to add something to the webmethod that says how long this particular page has been inactive, and use that knowledge to timeout manually. That actually sounds pretty easy, so I think I'll do that for now. I'm still convinced that there must be an easy way to do what I originally wanted to do though. Update I'm thinking I'm pretty screwed in terms of cookie manipulation here as both the .ASPXAUTH and ASP.NETSessionId cookie are HttpOnly, which means the browser takes them out of your hands, you can't access them via the document.cookies object. So I would say that leaves me with:
Updating my SessionAlive webmethod to track each request so I can tell how long the user has been sitting idle on a page and timeout if needs be Marking the .asmx page somehow on the server end so that it's taken out of the normal authentication/session tracking flow I know how to do 1. so I'll start there but 2. seems much cleaner to me.

I struggled with some javascript issues, and discovered that the problem seemes to come from a failed ajax control access. Here's my problem: I have a master page and a content page.In my content page, I have an accordion with 2 panes. 1rst pane: a textbox and a validation button; I want the button to fire javascript function without reloading page (using "return false;");
In my master page, I put my ToolkitScriptManager.
In my content page, I put my script containing the functions.
The problem is that it seems like I can't access the accordion control in my js functions, whereas I can access my textbox value. ere is my source:
