Download Files From Secure Website Programmatically (c#)?

Dec 3, 2010

I've to download files from our 38 clients secure websites. They are our data resources. Currently data collection process is manual. Logon to the site, login with username and password, then download files, save to local folder, close window once download is completed. We are trying to automate download process. Plan is to handle login part with code and directly show list of filename to User with check box , so User can select files and click to save.

Rest all will be handled programtically. Once download is complete the status for that file will change to "Saved" or "Download Complete. I'm working on Window 7, VS2008(C# asp.net). Trying to make it work with WebClient class. It'll be great if you can post some source code or guide me to link or post for solution.

C# - Windows Service Connects To A Server To Download Some Files?

Jul 9, 2010

There are three serves on the same zone. 172..*.**

Suppose that their names are A,B and C

The server A has a windows service, and it downloads the files from the server of C, in the folder of images. It used to give errors about access-denied then we assign full control to everyone on the folder of images on the server C. Then it was ok.

Now the same windows service runs on the server B, and ,t gets the same things from images folder of the server C. But there is an error about access-denied.

What should I do for the required steps to make the server B be able to connect the server C and download the files?

**The error: Exception:Access to the path '172..*.images' is denied.

172...* aka the server C*

C# - Sync Database To Uploaded File Using Windows Service Or Website Code?

Sep 10, 2010

I have a website that occasionally needs to have a handful of the tables in its database updated. The updates come from another system that exports to comma delimited text files. I can then either FTP the text files to the web server, send them in through an admin upload page, or manually log in to Remote Desktop to download the text files. I have all my C# code written to parse the files, check the database contents, and decide what to do.

Should I code the sync logic to be part of a file upload page, protected in the admin section of the site or should I create a Windows Service that constantly looks for files to process in a particular directory that I can drop files in through FTP?

I have used Windows Services in the past and they have worked great, but if I ever have to make a change to the code it can take longer than it would if I just had to modify an ASPX.

Are their security benefits one way or another?

Performance benefits?

ASPX page wins the "ease of maintenance" category.

Windows Authentication Of Intranet Website And Reappearing Windows Login Box

Mar 24, 2011

I'm trying to enable automatic Window authentication working on our ASP.NET Intranet. I've changed the Authentication on our IIS 7.5 server from Anonymous to Windows Authentication Enabled only, and changed the Web.config file for the website to:

<authentication mode="Windows" />
<authorization>
<deny users="?" />
</authorization>

The Windows login box appears when accessing the website via IE 8, I enter valid credentials, but the login window keeps reappearing as if it does not accept my credentials. By repeatedly cancelling the login box it disappears, and my login name can be viewed on the website. Is there any possible reason for the login box to keep popping up even though valid credentials are being entered? I've restarted the servers / cleared browser cache etc. Also, ideally I would like the user to enter the login details once in the login box and not be required to reenter login details whenever he reopens the browser.

Configuration :: Deploying Website From Windows 7 To Windows 2003

Feb 25, 2010

I'm running windows 7, so I installed on my machine the oracle client version 11.1.0.7.0 (ODP.NET - Oracle.DataAccess version 2.111.7.20) .
I'm trying to deploy an asp.net web application to a server that is running windows 2003, which has the oracle client version 11.1.0.6.0 (ODP.NET - Oracle.DataAccess Version 2.111.6.20)

In my web.config file I have:

<add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.111.6.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89B483F429C47342"/>

(which for my surprise it compiles just fine).

Now when I compile my application and deploy it in a setup project (as pre-compiled). The start page of my web app tires to connect to Oracle and it returns the following error message:

"Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.111.7.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

Which is super weird because, cause the web.config file as shown above has Version=2.111.6.20.

Now the strange part is that if I copy the source code from the client to the server, the same code, same config file, it works just fine.

So I'm thinking that the pre-compiled version is telling the server to load Oracle.DataAccess Version=2.111.7.20, maybe in one of the dlls, not in the config file for sure.

Has anyone run into this problem?

what's the best approach to deploy to servers with different oracle client version? (I have a similar problem trying to deploy to a 64 bit machine)

In C# and MVS2008, how do I do an equivalent of window.open() programatically from within the C# code (so not attaching JavaScript code to a button).

Is it possible to specify settings such as width, height, no scroll-bar, etc.?

Now I can open a new page by using Server.Transfer or Response.Redirect, but I can not seem to specify the new pages width, height, etc.

How To Make A Web (WCF) Service Act As Windows Service

Sep 22, 2010

I have a web application - .net 4. The client is having a requirement that he want to send email to his users on a regular basis about his new courses etc.

The webapplication created will hosted on a "Shared hosting environment" with no excess to windows services - file system other than the web root folder through FTP.

Due to shared hosting i cannot create a windows service for him which will check the database - if there are any scheduled mail to send every 5 min.

C# - Can Create A Web Service That Streams A Pdf For Download

Aug 19, 2010

My company has just purchased a .net version of Cete Pdf Merger (great product btw). We use both .Net & asp code and will likely use java in the future as well.

The scenario is that one technology (asp, java, .net) would have a list of raw data such as an array of field names & values. This data would be posted to the web service that would then open a given pdf, match pdf form fields to the field names array, grab the corresponding value, populate it on the pdf, and then stream the pdf back to the user to download.

Architecture :: Web Service - File Download With MTOM?

Jan 18, 2011

I have a web service I put together that has a custom soap header for the authorization (UserName and Password).I have a function currently that will allow a user to download a file from my site via a web service.I have integrated this download to the membership system of the site.They are using a vb.net front end client to perform the download.The files I download are around a meg in size.I would like to show the download progess of the file.I was going to setup MTOM and download the file in chunks.I am trying to get around the authorization of each "chunk" of data that I am sending down to the client.I do not want to hit my authorization process for all of these calls to the web service with the file offset.The authorization header works well for other functions I have put together for this web service.

They set a username and password and then call a function for specific data that I am making available via the web service.Is there an easier method to stream a file to a user and show the download progress of the file?I was going to generate a token and have that token passed per chunk,but I still have to go through my security process.Can anyone assist in the proper design of a webservice to stream a file with progress and passing credientials.
