I am trying to implement a service to download a image file. The code does nothing but upload a file to the response with each client request.
There are no SOAP messages involved but I am planning to implement it as ASP.NET web service. It can also be implement as ASP.NET website but since it has no view (forms, html etc) I planned to implement a web-service.
I have a web application which consists of many aspx pages ... one of them shows a grid with rows that can be exported to a file via button click. This works fine. Now I want to have that feature which allows a user to access an external link to this page (or another) and to export to a file and download. I dont need any information on the page, just the file download. How could I do this also including security features like encryption?
I have a web service I put together that has a custom soap header for the authorization (UserName and Password).I have a function currently that will allow a user to download a file from my site via a web service.I have integrated this download to the membership system of the site. They are using a vb.net front end client to perform the download. The files I download are around a meg in size.I would like to show the download progess of the file.I was going to setup MTOM and download the file in chunks.I am trying to get around the authorization of each "chunk" of data that I am sending down to the client.I do not want to hit my authorization process for all of these calls to the web service with the file offset. The authorization header works well for other functions I have put together for this web service.
They set a username and password and then call a function for specific data that I am making available via the web service. Is there an easier method to stream a file to a user and show the download progress of the file?I was going to generate a token and have that token passed per chunk, but I still have to go through my security process. Can anyone assist in the proper design of a webservice to stream a file with progress and passing credientials.
I am currently working on a project that is very new to me, and I feel a bit over my head as far as knowledge base is concerned. My request is for references and information to help me expand my knowledge base, as well as recommendations for technologies and methods.I have experience primarily with Java, so all this Windows service stuff is new to me. I am not really asking for a how-to
The project is as follows: I am to develop an application in ASP.NET that runs as a process from start-up to shutdown. It will be checking some things in a folder, encrypting some files from that folder, and then check if internet connectivity is available. If it is available, it will be sending those files to a server (via a web service on that server, I believe). If it is not available, it will check every 'insert time interval here' to see if connectivity has become available, at which time it will send the files. Once the files are received by the service, the application will need to recieve some kind of confirmation from the server that the file associated with 'xxxxxxxxxxxxx' uniqueidentifier has been received.
Any explanation of the way that web services work or how to implement file encryption in a desktop app (resource load optimization is a very substantial requirement of this app).
I'm about to submit my pad file to multiple sharware sites but the pad file has to have a direct link to the download file and can't link to a download page which is what I would like to do, so I can track the traffic and get the downloader's email before allowing the download. I am running an ASP.NET site in VB. Is there a way to tell the web app to redirect to a specific aspx page when it receives a request for a specific file?
i m creating asp.net Mobile website page to download symbian .sis file to mobile ,but its not geting download properly.its working perfectly on desktop.
I am downloading file from database using the following code. This code downloads an excel file from the database which has a macro attached to it when it is opened. This macro reads file name of the excel file and uses it for its computation. Everthing works file if user saves the file on his harddisk and then open if but if he directly opens the file from the dialog(by hitting 'Open' button) then file name of the opened excel file comes out be the name of the webform that has the above code and this leads to error in the macro. Is there any option through which i can control the name of the file if user directly opens the file from dialog or the option to disable or remove 'Open' button form the dialog?
What is the best way to implement a open/cross platform web service API to an existing .NET App? Not being a strictly .NET friendly API. It already has ASP.NET exposed web services, but need to be built into an generic API allowing inserts, updates and deletes and returning results based on user criteria in standard SOAP, JSON or other common formats, similar to Google's Data API's. Are there any frameworks designed for this or is it a build it from scratch project implementing each format/protocol manually?
My company has just purchased a .net version of Cete Pdf Merger (great product btw). We use both .Net & asp code and will likely use java in the future as well.
The scenario is that one technology (asp, java, .net) would have a list of raw data such as an array of field names & values. This data would be posted to the web service that would then open a given pdf, match pdf form fields to the field names array, grab the corresponding value, populate it on the pdf, and then stream the pdf back to the user to download.
I am new to the wcf services and soap. Kindly give me an example or demo how to generate a soap request and response using wcf services. I need to use VB.net for this.
We have a common WCF service Which takes stored procedure name and value as parameters from .ASPx page and execute in Database. In some cases, We need to execute 3-4 stored procedure in Sequence. Here, If any stored procedure fails then we need to rollback. How can we implement Transaction with WCF service.

I want to implement a restful service in ASP.NET. I want it to be compatible with .Net 2.0 and IIS 5+. I am constrained to not use ASP.NET MVC or REST starter kit. By reading on internet I have learned that it can be implemented using HTTPHandlers. The problem is, the request will come in as a POST request. And I want to URL to be like:
http://abc.com/MyService/MyMethod1/ and http://abc.com/MyService/MyMethod2/
I have a very simple WCF Web Service it has methods like the ones below. It should be said that my webservice is very simple, I didn't do any configuration. Now I want to upload and download photos like .jpg or .jpeg files. But my question to you how shall I write the methods to be able to download and upload photo files to the WCF web service from my client?
