How To Receive An Image Remotely

Mar 18, 2011

I have a requirement to design an ASPX page to receive a binary image from a remote call. Basically, our client wants to send a POST request from their server to this particular page. This POST request contains some parameters, as well as an JPG image. How should I design this ASPX page to receive all these information? I need to convert the JPG image to byte[] array and save it to DB, together with the rest of the parameter values.

WCF / ASMX :: Receive Image From Iphone?

Sep 14, 2010

i am currently working on a project with an iphone developer in which i need to receive an image to my .net 1.1 web service. Here is the code that locally works fine if i take an image and convert to bytes... but from the iphone it is coming across as an unreadable 1 kb file. Any thought or experience? Is it encoding issue? Developer says he is sending it as utf8?

<WebMethod()> _
Public Function UploadFile(ByVal fileBytes As Byte()) As Boolean
Try
Dim ms As New MemoryStream(fileBytes)
Dim fs As New FileStream("c:attachments est.jpg", FileMode.Create)
ms.WriteTo(fs)

ms.Close()
fs.Close()
Catch ex as Exception

C# - What Could Be Causing Different Behaviour Remotely On .net Site

Jan 25, 2011

I have a site that i have developed in asp.net. On debugging the site now hosted using iis7 i noticed a bug, i cannot reproduce this when i run it locally in vs, meaning i can't see the error. The bug occurs on the check box changed event of a devexpress check box. It connects to the database using devart.postgres sql component and linq. However, this is the same connection as anywhere else in the project. The same code works elsewhere in the project. The error i get is:

the requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found.

part of my code is in an if statement that checks if a textbox is blank if so it does not run the code within the if statement, interestingly enough if the text box is blank the code runs, so it must be in the if statement? i commented out all of the code and tried again and it still would not run. C# - Creating / Managing Users Remotely?

I've put my site online and I'm looking to add/change user membership. From Visual Studio, I can access the Website Administration Tool WSAT and it's great if you just want to add users manually. Is there a similar way to change users once the site is hosted on a remote server?For the moment, I change the user information through the WSAT and re-FTP the mdf file; it's pretty painful.

ReportViewer Cannot Find Data Source Remotely?

Feb 12, 2010

this is the first time I have tried this so I am probably missing something that is staring me right in the face.

I have an ASP.NET page where the user fills in a request which then emails a PDF rendered from a ReportViewer instance.

It all works fine when I run it locally through the ASP.NET localhost but when I try and run it of the webserver it fails with the following message:

An error has occurred during report processing.Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'.

I can preview the report via the web based report manager via http://servername/reports which works without any problem and using the report editor in VS2005.

I suspect it is something to do with the credentials but I am at a loss. The data source is set with a username and password but this is saved within the datasource.

MVC3 - All Routing Works Locally But Not Remotely?

Feb 16, 2011

I have a new MVC3 project with one Controller called PublicController.cs which contains 4 identical methods for testing out how routing works. The only difference between them is their name, and that they each point to a different view ...

public class PublicController : Controller
{
//
// GET: /Public/
public ActionResult Index()[code]....

My web-server is shared hosting with netcetera, using a sub-domain for this deployment (previously had problems with MVC in virtual directories, but have full blown MVC2 apps running in sub-domains no problem). I've deployed by using the "Publish to file system" option, then copying over the files aswell as just copying the entire source project over. Both give identical results.

SQL Server :: Connecting To SqlExpress 2005 Remotely?

Aug 22, 2010

So I've intalled SQL 2005 Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I don't have any problems connecting to it using Windows authentication. But I would like to set it up so that I can log in using Sql Server Authentication with a username and password.

But I'm getting an error message of "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occured during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0- No process is on the other end of the pipe) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233).

What I've done

I've created a new "Login" in the Security node. Provided all necessary role access level. Granted permission to connect to database and enabled login.

I've used the Sql Server Surface Area Configuration to set the Remote Connection type to "Using TCP/IP only" or "Using Both TCP/IP and named pipes" (tried both, but in either situation I get the same error message when attempting to login to SSMSE with the user name and password). I also made sure to restart the service.

C# - Remotely Execute A Program On Multiple Clients From A Web App?

Dec 21, 2010

So I have the following requirement for a project I'm working on, and I can't figure out the best (or any, for that matter) way to do this.

I have an asp.net web app sitting on IIS at HQ. When a particular event occurs, I need to then show a message on a dynamically selected subset of PC's throughout the company. The message must be shown due to the time restraints of this process (4 hours reaction time) and we legally can't afford to not show the message.

So I need to do the following:

Show a message to the users. I have a winforms app that puts up a dialog that the only way to get rid of it is to click a big "Acknowledge" button. To ensure that the message was shown. Some kind of report back that yes, it was shown and subsequently acknowledged. A way to react if the form is not shown.

I've considered the following:

PsExec - Iterating over every node asynchronously in my web app to fire off a remote executable sitting on each PC. .NET Remoting - I'm not familiar with this at all, and it lead me to look at WCF instead. Would it work for what I'm trying to do? WCF Callbacks - These seem to require a constant connection and I'm not sure what that means for our infrastucture. I imagined a client service that would kick off an app or show the form somehow. Our scheduling software (Tidal Enterprise Scheduler) - remotely executing an executable. This would introduce more points of failure.

In SO's opinion, what would be the best way to attack this problem?

Web Forms :: Storing Remotely Posted Data To Database?

Oct 29, 2010

I am writing an application in which a remote url web site ( says url1 that is sender) sends xml data to another web site (says url2 that is receiver) by using .NET WebRequest. On the receiver url2 if I use .NET Page.Response and .NET Page.Request to store posted/received xml data into an external text file, then the data is stored. However, if I store the received data into database, I do not see the data is stored into the database.

trouble shoot the codes so I can store such remotely posted data into database on the receiver side url2.

I host both url1 site and url2 site in my computer using IIS like [URL]

1/ Receiver page's codes that store remotely posted xml data into database do not work:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Page.Response.ContentType = "text/xml";
StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(Page.Request.InputStream);
String xmlData= reader.ReadToEnd();
ProductNameSapce.ProductCollection.InsertReceivedProduct(xmlData).ToString(); // data is not stored ; the method is tested and works well with hard-coded data
reader.Close();
Page.Response.End();
}

2/ The version of the receiver page at url2 that stores into an external text file works:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Page.Response.ContentType = "text/xml";
StreamReader reader = new StreamReader ( Page.Request.InputStream );
String xmlData= reader.ReadToEnd ();
StreamWriter s;
s= File.CreateText ( Server.MapPath(".")+@""+ Guid.NewGuid () + ".txt" );
s.WriteLine ( xmlData); // data is stored in an external text file
s.Close ();
reader.Close();
Page.Response.End();
}

Getting HTTP Error Remotely Instead Of 'Connection Was Reset Message'?

Jan 13, 2010

On an ASP.NET Web Application I have an upload file functionality. I'm restricting the file size up to 10 MB by configuring the inside web.config the maxAllowedContentLength attribute. (I'm using IIs 7.0 BTW).

It get the desired HTTP Error when I access the application from the local machine:

HTTP Error 404.13 - Not Found The request filtering module is configured to deny a request that exceeds the request content length.

When I access the application from another machine I get

The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

How can I get a more descriptive error when my application is accessed remotely?
