How To Remove Item From A Typed List

Dec 7, 2010

I have a class name Holder. I create a List of Holder, then add Holder to it.

holder = new Holder();
holder.Id = id;
holder.Distance = distance;
holderList.Add(holder);

its cool at this point. But now i want to delete a holder from holderList and I do following in another method.

holder = new Holder();
holder.Id=id;
if(holderList.Count > 0)
holderList.Remove(holder); //Error here it does not remove that spacific item.

Web Forms :: Redirecting A User Selected Item In A Drop Down List To Another Item?

Feb 10, 2010

I have a list with 2 sorts of items. Items that have actual values (1,2,3,4 etc) and items that are like group headings so all their values are set to 0. If someone decides to select a group heading - which has a value of 0, is it possible to redirect them to my 'Select an item' item which has a value of ""?

If worse comes to worse, I can just reconstruct the entire list, although if possible I'd like to avoid it.

C# - Adding Arbitrary Properties To A Strongly Typed List?

Jun 4, 2010

I'm looking for a good way to add arbitrary properties to the objects in a strongly typed list, based on the principle that I shouldn't pass a DataTable from my business layer to my presentation layer.For example, I might have a Category class with the properties CategoryId and Title. On one page I would like to fetch a list of all categories (ie. List<Category>) together with the most expensive product in each category.A while ago, I would have just returned a DataTable with some additional columns in it with the product data in, but I'm trying not to do that -- it would be trivial to set up it's not good practice. One option is to add a MostExpensiveProduct property to my Category class, but I might want to display the most recently added product in another case, or the cheapest product, so I'd end up adding a lot of properties to cover all the options. This just doesn't feel right to me.Am I missing a trick here? What is the best way of doing this? Or should I just be returning a DataTable to which I can add as many columns as I need and not worry about it?

C# - Dropdown - Get The Value Of The First Item In The List Regardless Of What Item Is Actually Selected

Dec 3, 2010

I have a drop down list control populated with items and some code to take the currently selected item value. The problem is I only get the value of the first item in the list regardless of what item is actually selected. Here is my code to populate the drop down:

protected void displayCreateCategories()
{
StoreDataContext db = new StoreDataContext();
var a = from c in db.Categories
orderby c.Name
select new{catName= c.Name,
catId=c.CategoryID};
ddlCategory.DataSource = a;
ddlCategory.DataTextField = "catName";
ddlCategory.DataValueField = "catId";
ddlCategory.DataBind();
}

To get the value of the currently selected item which in my case is always of type integer I do label1.text=Convert.toInt32(ddlCategory.SelectedValue); I get the selected value, but it is always for the 1st item in the list. I'm pulling my hair out over this.

Web Forms :: Clicking The Label Of A Dropdown List - Resets The Selected Value To The First Item In The List?

Feb 17, 2010

Clicking the label of a drop down list, re-sets the selected value to the first item in the list. This has a history of causing data entry problems when users accidently click on the label.

In the below example ddlContactType has a selected value as 'PRIMARY' and whenever i click on the lblContactType Text, the dropdown box Selected value is changing to "Select One" Text.

How to prevent this one. It should be on PRIMARY Only.

<p>
<tr> <td ><asp:Label ID="lblContactType" Font-Bold="true" Text="Contract Type: *" ForeColor= "red" runat="server" AssociatedControlID="ddlContactType"></asp:Label> </td> <td > <asp:DropDownList runat="server" ID="ddlContactType" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource2" AppendDataBoundItems="true"
DataTextField="TYPE" DataValueField="ID" SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CONTACT_TYPE_ID") %>'>
<asp:ListItem Text="Select One" Value="0" Selected="True"></asp:ListItem>.......

Web Forms :: How To Highlight The Current List Item In The Unordered List

Mar 25, 2010

I have a master page which has an unordered list in this way:

[code]....

These links are directed to my content pages. I am able to highligt the selected list item on hover and on active.

But I do not understand how I can highlight the selected list item as long as the user is on that specific page/link (current list item). I know that we can specify a seperate body tag and id for each of the content pages and then use CSS to highlight the current list item, but all this code rests already inside a body tag in the master page.

Another Function Invokes While Trying To Remove Item From Gridview

Feb 11, 2011

I have I gridview in which the data source is a List<T>. When I try to remove an item from the gridview in my buttonRemove_Click() function another function which handles the RowDeleting event is invoked where I remove the item from the List<T> as well. The problem is that if I select to remove multiple items from the gridview the index of the gridview and that of my List<T> un-syncs. For example I have 10 items in my gridview and in my List and I try to remove the last two items. Here is how I do it in my buttonRemove_Click function

foreach (GridViewRow row in gridViewItems.Rows)
{
CheckBox cb = (CheckBox)row.FindControl("checkBox");
if (cb != null && cb.Checked)
{
gridViewItems.DeleteRow(row.DataItemIndex);
}
}

Then in the RowDeleting function, I'll first receive the event for the index 8, I removed it. Now when it comes to deleting the last item (index 9), then it'll throw exception because the index is out of range. How do I solve this problem? I think the problem will be solved if I try removing the rows in reverse order i.e. starting from the highest index. Can anyone tell how can this be done?

Strongly-typed Or Weakly-typed Binding In Codebehind In Front End?

Feb 23, 2010

So my question is more in relation to what people consider to be the best practice and why:

I've been dropping literals into pages and repeaters and binding them in code behind for a while. Is this considered bad practice?

ie:

ASPX Page:

<asp: Literal id="litTextToInsert" runat="Server" />

Code Behind:

litTextToInsert.Text = objData.MyText;

OR (repeater):

[code]....

I personally dont like doing this as i find it makes it harder for me to know if someone changed the field name, or mis typed it during development - the other way you won't know until the page loads.

With the strongly typed version if something changes in your DAL etc the build will break - letting me know I've messed up.

Why do so many people appear to use weakly typed code in ASP.Net (in examples, MVC, etc)?
Am i missing something?
