How To Rewrite A File Name Into The Browser Using A Httphandler

Mar 20, 2010

I have a httphandler that is fitred for all .png files. I would to be able to rewite the name of the file into the html. Is this possible? So if test.png comes into the handler I want to write test.png?V=1

So far I have found the following:

context.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "inline; filename=" + context.Request.FilePath + "?V=1");

How To Rewrite A Path Using A Custom HttpHandler

Apr 14, 2010

I'm writing a multi-tenant app that will receive requests like http://www.tenant1.com/content/images/logo.gif and http://www.anothertenant.com/content/images/logo.gif. I want the requests to actually map to the folder location /content/tenant1/images/logo.gif and /content/anothertenant/images/logo.gif

I'm using asp.net Mvc 2 so I'm sure there's probably a way to setup a route to handle this or a custom route handler?

Using HttpHandler For Images - Cannot Print Images From IE Browser?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm using an HttpHandler to display images from memory ... which is working fine.The image is displayed as a .png format in a popup window.My problem is printing the image from IE7 Web Browser using the popup menu displayed after doing a right-click, selecting 'Print Picture'.A blank page is being printed ... i.e. No Image, just the url and date on the bottom of the page and the page number on the top.I have also tried this with the image formatted as .jpg, with the same result.

C# - HttpHandler Fire Only If File Doesn't Exist?

Feb 15, 2010

I'm trying to create a HTTP handler to handle all requests to a folder but I only want it to fire if the files requested don't exist (EG: Request comes in for file X, if X exists I'd like to serve the file, otherwise the handler should deal with it).The files will only be static content, not scripts themselves, which I assume makes it a bit easier but I can't seem to find anything that will do the trick... Anyone have any ideas? I assume it can be done since the IIS7 rewrite module can manage it, but I can't see how...Edit Just to clarify... the handler is the typical case and it is not an error-handling routine but actually delivering appropriate content. I just want the ability to add new files to the folder either as separate things or as overloads to what the handler would deliver.

VS 2010 - Handling File Not Found Exception From HttpHandler

Oct 27, 2011

I'm using a HttpHandler to intercept PDF file download requests and modify the PDF file. I'm stuck on what to do if the requested file doesn't exist on the webserver. If I handle the Exception and return an empty response, it gives the user a 0 byte file to download. If I ignore the Exception, then ASP.NET catches it and the user is redirected to my unfriendly customError page.

Httphandler Version Aspx Code Behind Writing Image File?

Mar 31, 2010

We have encountered this difference in file creation while using a HttpHandler Versus a Code Behind Aspx page. We are reading a saved jpg/png picture as byte array from a 'Image' field in sql server database and create a physical file in the server. Both the Aspx Page and Httphandler use the same code pasted below.

//Begin
int docID = Convert.ToInt32(Request.QueryString["DocID"]);
var docRow = documentDB.GetDocument(docID);
// Retrieve the physical directory path for the Uploads subdirectory
string destDir = Server.MapPath("../../Uploads").ToString() + "\";
string strFileName = destDir + DateTime.Now.ToFileTime() + "_" + docRow.DocName.ToString();
FileStream fs = new FileStream(strFileName, FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write);
fs.Write(docRow.DocData, 0, docRow.DocData.Length);
fs.Flush();
fs.Close();
// End

After the file is created, it is viewable as a jpg/png Image only in Aspx Code Behind. While in case of HttpHandler it is not a valid Image.

Intermittent Bug - IE6 Showing File As Text In Browser Rather Than As File Download

Dec 30, 2010

In an ASP.NET WebForms 2.0 site we are encountering an intermittent bug in IE6 whereby a file download attempt results in the contents of the being shown directly in the browser as text, rather than the file save dialog being displayed. Our application allows the user to download both PDF and CSV files. The code we're using is:

HttpResponse response = HttpContext.Current.Response;
response.Clear();
response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename="theFilename.pdf"");
response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
response.BinaryWrite(MethodThatReturnsFileContents());
response.End();

This is called from the code-behind click event handler of a button server control. Where are we going wrong with this approach? Edit Following James' answer to this posting, the code I'm using now looks like this:

HttpResponse response = HttpContext.Current.Response;
response.ClearHeaders();
// Setting cache to NoCache was recommended, but doing so results in a security
// warning in IE6
//response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="theFilename.pdf"");
response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
response.BinaryWrite(MethodThatReturnsFileContents());
response.Flush();
response.End();

However, I don't believe that any of the changes made will fix the issue.

Open Up A PDF File Within The Browser?

Apr 20, 2010

I have the following code below to open up a PDF file within the browser :

Response.Clear();
Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline;filename=abc.pdf");
Response.WriteFile();
Response.End();

My question is, when this opens up in the browser, it takes over the whole page. Is there a way to limit the height? The reason I'm asking is, I have three menu items above the page to open up a specific pdf. So if I click on one of the links to view that pdf, the pdf show up, but the links disappear because of the PDF.

I also don't want to use iframe to populate the PDF.
