Web Forms :: How To Call Response Redirect From A Class

Jan 15, 2011

I got a ASP.Net website (webforms application in C# - .Net framework 2.0) with Master Page, webforms and a GlobalFunctions class in App_Data folder where i do have ErrorLog functions and few other generic functions. Everytime an exception is caught in my webform it calls this GlobalFunctions.Errorlog function to log the error in my database table. After the exception details are written to the database table, I also would like to redirect the user to my ErrorPage.aspx like

Response.Redirect("ErrorPage.aspx",false);

However since i am inside a class (GlobalFunctions.vb) and not a webform, I don't know how to redirect this to ErrorPage.aspx since i can't access Response class.

How To Make Response.Redirect Inside A Asynchronous Call Method - C#

Jul 15, 2010

I have a try-catch inside a method that is called asynchronously. When an error occurs, inside the catch I have a Response.Redirect because I need to redirect to the login page.

This is my issue.

But my problem doesn't involve things that expire, so the idea of a timer isn't the best way to resolve it.

AJAX :: Method To Ask To Save A File Other Then Using The Response?

Aug 18, 2010

When I click a button, it will bring out a ModalPopup panel saying "Pls wait" until the process is finished at the code -behind. The process is generating an excel file and prompt out a save as dialog box. However, When I called the code below, the modalpopup panel will not be closed automatically.

string file = DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyyMMdd") + ".xls";
Response.Clear();
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + file);
workbook.SaveToStream(Response.OutputStream, SpreadsheetGear.FileFormat.Excel8);
Response.End();

if I don't call the code above, the modalpopup panel is closed success.

I want the ModalPopup panel to be closed automatically after saving the file, is there any way to bring out a save as dialog box other than using Response. method?

Web Forms :: Accessing HttpResponse Page.Response From A Class Instead Of Cs File?

Oct 18, 2010

I have an issue with trying to create a Pdf file from my webpage. Basically, everythig involving creating the Pdf (using iTextSharp) is done, and I'm doing this as a File Stream (i.e, I'm saving the Pdf on local machine). Now what I'm trying to do is create it as a Memory Stream (i.e, open the Pdf from the browser). I was able to do this earlier when I wa still at the 1st version of the application, and all of the code behind was incluced in my .aspx.cs file. But now, I've kept the code in the .aspx.cs at a minimum and put the cude in classes and I'm creating onjects of thoses classes from the .aspx.cs

The problem is that the code from creating the Memory Stream is in a class as follows:

[Code]....

As you can imagine, the compiler cannot recognise "Response" as it's in a seperate class instead of in .aspx.cs

C# - How To Multiple Files That Shall Be Calling A Method In A Class In Another File

Feb 14, 2011

I was just wondering, let's say I created a Method that is in a partial class in App_Code, and this Method would replace the same type of Method that would otherwise be in many files, and so, since it would be called from many files and would probably be called and used very frequently especially because of this. Would this overload this class? I'm not saying what would most likely happen, I'm just asking if it would be even remotely possible?

DataSource Controls :: ObjectDataSource - Update Method To Pass Entity To The Method In BLL Class?

Oct 18, 2010

I have an ObjectDataSource that I want to perform updates using a business entity i.e. Type="Object"). Since the values for the entity are within a user control, I have stored a reference to the control in Session and in the updating event, set the new instance to the value of the entity from the user contol property (which also pulls values from the form viaother properties of the control):

Protected Sub MasterDataSource_Updating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ObjectDataSourceMethodEventArgs) Handles MasterDataSource.Updating
Dim entity As New Login()
Dim accountControl As AccountInfo = TryCast(Session("AccountCtrl"), AccountInfo)
entity = accountControl.Entity
e.InputParameters.Add("entity", entity)
End Sub

And here's the markup for the datasource:

<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="MasterDataSource" runat="server" EnableCaching="true" CacheDuration="10"
SelectMethod="SelectAll" UpdateMethod="Update" TypeName="Data.DAL.LoginDAL">
</asp:ObjectDataSource>

My question is, how can I get the update method to pass this entity to the update method in my BLL class? It seems the Update method requires an ID or reference to the original object to use in determining whether any changes have taken place, but I don't really want to do this. In other words, I just want to use the Update event on my ObjectDataSource to pass my entity to the method ("Update") I set as a property and then let this business method handle the update of the data. Shown below, is the BLL update method I want to call:

Public Overloads Function Update(ByVal entity As Login)
If entity Is Nothing Then
Throw New ArgumentNullException("entity")
End If
MyBase.Update("UpdateLogin", entity.Username, entity.Password, entity.FirstName, entity.LastName, entity.Role, entity.Region, _
entity.Email, entity.Title, entity.TierID, entity.Street, entity.City, entity.State, entity.Zip, entity.Mobile, entity.Phone, entity.Fax)
End Function

When I try to call this as it stands now, I get an error: ObjectDataSource 'MasterDataSource' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: ID, entity. Previously, I'd set up a long list of parameters of basic data types (string, int, boolean), but this is rather cumbersome and I was hoping to use an entity for this (FYI, I also got the same type of error when I tried this approach, but with the ID as the
last parameter in the list). Perhaps what I'm doing here is atypical to how the ODS is normally used?? Has anyone done something like this successfully?

Use Of Response.Redirect In C#

Feb 16, 2010

I am working on a website that I inherited (ASP.NET and C#), and I noticed that in almost EVERY method in the code behind of the project pages (except some helper methods), the original author uses Response.Redirect() to redirect to a page (typically home.aspx, but not always).

What is the purpose of doing this? It seems unneeded to me - at least it doesn't appear to change anything the website is doing if I keep it in or remove it.

C# - Response.Redirect Causes Download Of The Swf?

Feb 20, 2010

I have a flash image slider with a button below each image. When i press that button, the user is redirected to a new page where i add that image product to my cart. The problem is that after doing the adding, i want to redirect the user back to the initial page.

The code:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
addProductToBasket(getCategoryIdFromUrl(), getProductIdFromUrl());
Response.Redirect(Request.UrlReferrer.ToString());
}

note that in Firefox is working fine but in IE or Chrome it is DOWNLOADING the swf...If i comment Response.Redict(...) the user remains on this page so the click button is working well, only the redirect seems to be the problem.

Edit: The problem seems to be that Request.UrlReferrer keeps as link not the initial page containing the swf but the swf itself.

So, instead of doing redirect to:[URL] if does redirect to the swf contained on the Index.aspx page[URL]

Solved: with a session variable where i keep the initial page's url

Use TempData With Response.Redirect?

May 21, 2010

I am working with ASP.net MVC 2 framework, for multiple sites. We have a base site and then sub sites that inherit from a "Core" site that contains 90% of the functionality that the sub sites will use.

In one of the controllers, I am saving some data, adding a UI message to the tempData and then using Response.Redirect.

The redirect works, but the tempdata is empty after the redirect.

I have tried returning "RedirectToAction" and "RedirectToRoute" with the same routing location and while it populates the TempData, the redirect doesn't happen lol..

So I guess in short, is there a way to get tempdata working when using a standard Response.Redirect?
