How To Utilize Or Mimic Application OnStart In HttpModule
Apr 2, 2010
We are trying to remove the global.asax from our many web applications in favor of HttpModules that are in a common code base. This works really well for many application events such as BeginRequest and PostAuthentication, but there is no Application Start event exposed in the HttpModule.
I can think of a couple of smelly ways to overcome this deficit. For example, I can probably do this:
protected virtual void BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Log.Debug("Entered BeginRequest...");
var app = HttpContext.Current.Application;
var hasBeenSet app["HasBeenExecuted"] == null ? false : true;
if(!hasBeenSet)
{
app.Lock();
// ... do app level code
app.Add("HasBeenExecuted", true);
app.Unlock();
}
// do regular begin request stuff ...
}
But this just doesn't smell well to me.
What is the best way to invoke some application begin logic without having a global.asax?
The httpmodule is used in my web application. I want to set the property in the httpmodule when my application starts and not have the overhead of setting it everytime the module is called.
The value for the application is read from my app settings in the web.config.
The httpmodule resides in a seperate dll to the web application.
So I want to inject/set the property from my web application on application start.
Most succinctly, my question is whether an ASP.NET 4.0 app running under IIS 7 integrated mode should be able to honor this portion of my Web.config file:
I'm experimenting with mixed mode authentication (Windows and Forms - I know there are other questions on S.O. about the topic). Using IIS Manager, I've disabled Anonymous authentication to auth/windows/winauth.aspx, which is within the location path above. I have Failed Request Tracing set up to trace various HTTP status codes, including 302s.
When I request the winauth.aspx page, a 302 HTTP status code is returned. If I look at the request trace, I can see that a 401 (unauthorized) was originally generated by the AnonymousAuthenticationModule. However, the FormsAuthenticationModule converts that to a 302, which is what the browser sees. So it seems as though my attempt to remove that module from the pipeline for pages in that path isn't working. But I'm not seeing any complaints anywhere (event viewer, yellow pages of death, etc.) that would indicate it's an invalid configuration. I want the 401 returned to the browser, which presumably would include an appropriate WWW-Authenticate header.
A few other points: a) I do have <authentication mode="Forms"> in my Web.config, and that is what the 302 redirects to; b) I got the "name" of the module I'm trying to remove from the inetservconfigapplicationHost.config file; c) I have this element in my Web.config file: <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="false">.
the purpose of this HttpModule? It's showing up on my HttpModuleCollection list, but I don't know what's it's for.System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpModule
As we know when IIS receives the first request for a particular Asp.net application resource, IIS creates an instance of a HttpApplication (defined in global.asax codebehind).When this new instance is created it's initialization happens that also checks all configured HTTP modules.All modules are then instantiated and put in the application's Modules collection (of type HttpModuleCollection)modules are looped through and their Init() method is called (when they register for request events)
As far as I understand it the above scenario happens when a web application is started/initialized (hence application start event).What happens with modules?
Are they (re)instatiated on each request or reused from the Modules property on each consecutive request while the web application is alive? As I understand IIS and Asp.net they are reused through the whole life of a web application.
If they are reused, can we assume that their Init() method is actually a pseudo event handler for application start event? The thing is we can't attach to application level events within http modules. But if they are being reused we could use Init() as application start event and do whatever we'd put in global.asax instead.
Question,Can we assume that module's Init() method is called only on application start event? Could we use this assumption to i.e. register routes for applications whose global.asax codebehind we can't change? web.config is usually accessible and we can change it the way we want.Would this actually work?
Additional info,We can check HttpApplication code and check its InitModulesCommon() method. This one actually calls Init() of each registered HTTP module. What is more interesting is that this method is only used by InitIntegratedModules() and InitModules() methods. Which are both used only in HttpApplication.InitInternal() method. This is the basis of my assumptions, but I would like to know whether someone has abused IHttpModule.Init() for application start event.
I have to access a web page and click on a specific button that will allow to trigger an action. I want to just use the HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse but I don't want to use a browser control or class if possible. I have code that will read in the page to make sure the exact button name exists and if it does I want to be able to click that button.
I have a button called btnDelete on a page with a function behind the click event. Can anyone tell me how I might programmatically call the click event for that button?
I'm currently working on a project that will allow users to do the following:. Choose one or more reports from the report library.2. Cycle through each report, choosing the parameter values to use to run each report.3. Generate a pdf containing all of the reports in one large file.4. Download the pdf.I'm handling 1, 3, and 4 just fine but running into some problems with item 2. The multi-select parameters are giving me headaches. Basically I want a page that contains the parameter selection piece of the standard SSRS web interface but instead of "View Report" it would fire off a function I've created that saves the parameter values and then reloads the page for the next report in the list chosen by the userDoes anyone know if the Report.aspx source code is available somewhere? I'm currently using a PopupControlExtender, CheckboxList, and Textbox to try and mimic the functionality of the multi-select parameter interface that's provided by SSRS but am having trouble getting the page to postback when the user clicks outside the list of parameter values (the default SSRS interface does this).
I have been given some basic documentation of the RazorGator REST API and need to incorporate it into an ASP.NET 3.5 site. I've created my class file to call the API which contains my WebRequest.Create ("URL TO API"). How do I then make the output available so that it can be consumed by other pages? That is, the tickets.aspx page needs to obtain the output results of this API call. What constructs should I use to make this available in tickets.aspx?
Edit Here's the code I've written thus far:
using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.IO; using System.Net; using System.Text; namespace SeatEater.Web.UI.search { public class RazorGatorService { HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("https://api.razorgator.com/ticketservice/ticets.xml?blahblah") as HttpWebRequest ; HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); Stream receiveStream = response.GetResponseStream(); StreamReader readStream = new StreamReader(receiveStream, encode); response.close(); readStream.close(); } }
I receive the error message:
A field initializer cannot reference the nonstatic field, method, or property 'field'
in the second line of the above codeblock. I'm very new to using HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse. Can you advise me as to how to rectify the error message I'm receiving?
I know this may be a simple answer or at least to most people but I'm not getting anywhere when attempting this on my own or through the various resources I have looked up.
Here is my issue:
I am using ASP/VB.NET to build this integration. Visual Studio 2008. I previously had asked a question on API Integration on here and utilized that information to successfully perform the next steps. As this API is written differently I may not be grasping the appropriate functions correctly.
A company has given me several addresses for .ASMX portals. I add these into my service references. I can successfully see objects in my object browser and see all the procedures, etc., but further from here I'm unable to correctly use any objects. I attempted to replicate the integration based on my last API question and advice: Connecting to an API offered by a Company. When I'm attempting to use an object or simply relate a field to something on my script I continually get an error.
For example:
Dim A as New API.AddFunction
A.AccountNo = "123"
When running the page:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Here is only one .ASMX I was given. I cannot release any more, until I receive permission to do so from the provider, I apologize.

Anyhow, the root of my question is really how do I correctly interface with this API? What information do responders require so I can clarify this question more?
I've a dropdown and a listview inside an updatepanel (Master/Child relationship) so based on value selected in dropdown the listview gets populated. The Listview allow user to perform Edit/Insert/delete of records. I have to implement a scenario when a user is editing/inserting a record and if he tries to navigate away/change the value in dropdown he should be prompted to save the data and if he choose yes in JS Confirm Dialogue then the currently edited/inserting record should be saved (for which i'm trying to mimic the click of the update/insert button using js). I've attached change eventhandler of dropdown using JQuery which is getting called properly bind. [Code]....
This code gets bind using Sys.Application.add_load(saveChanges); I also tried the following Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_initializeRequest(saveChanges);Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(saveChanges). The eventhandler gets called correctly but the click() doesn't work! Also the reason I'm calling click() method of button is to perform the validations via RequireValidator/RangeValidators.
I am in need of validating a TreeView to make sure that users have selected something. What I need is something that mimics a RequiredFieldValidator and stops a page from posting back with any data until something is selected.
asp.net 4.0I'm trying to utilize a webservice but is not 100% sure how to do the coding. I've added reference to the web service in the project.The webservice have this class:sendCompletedEventArgs(object[], System.Exception, bool, object) And this delegate:sendCompletedEventHandler(object, sendCompletedEventArgs, System.AsyncCallback, object)This delegate have BeginInvoke(object, sendCompletedEventArgs, System.AsyncCallback, object) and EndInvoke()any suggestions how to utilize this webservice is most welcome?
I am trying to utilize an AnimationExtender that will fade in an asp:LinkButton. My page includes 4 user controls that each load information at different intervals. What I am wanting to do is fade in the asp:LinkButton after the last user control has loaded. I have tried using <OnLoad> but the fade in occurs while the user controls are still loading. I have also tried wrapping the user controls in a panel (seen below), using the panel as the TargetControlID of the AnimationExtender. My end goal here is pretty simple: The user should not see the asp:LinkButton until after the page (including the 4 user controls) has loaded.
I've been working on the Music Store tutorial and I cannot get my site to utilize the Album.ascx view template. For now I'll give the short version of my problem because I'm thinking I'm just missing something obvious. I'll provide further elaboration/code if needed. I'm stuck on Part 4. From my understanding, after adding the Shared folder and adding the Album.ascx partial file, I should be seeing this after browsing to the Store Manager Index and selecting an album to edit: Instead, I'm still seeing this: I even copied the code from the dowloaded solution for the Edit.aspx and Album.ascx files. It seems my project is completely disregarding my View Template.
There is one page which is actually a streaming to The Axis IP camera which spits MJPEG output.It requires user to log in with the user name/password promp on browser .I am using this stream to show video directly on a web page.It shows video correctly but asks user to provide correct user name and password set for the camera,I tried to logging in to this camera on server side using HTTP requests and then I realized I authenticated server request not the browser the end user is using.
So what I want is a method server side or client side, that can allow me to log-in to camera automatically when my end-users visit this page.I am using asp.net with c# 2005
I need to style the asp:Menu so the navigation buttons have rounded corners.
I have a javascript-based navigation menu (not asp.net) that uses images to simulate rounded corner navigation. However, I think I have to use an asp:Menu for my asp.net 4 website instead of a static page navigation menu.
I also plan to use Dynamic Data on multiple tabbed pages.
I need to utilize about 30 different database values from within a repeater ItemDataBound Event and I am wondering if there is a better way to do it. I am currently exposing them by doing something like this 30 times:
[Code]....
Rather than making 30 declarations, is there a way I can make them all available as short variable names? The variable name could be the same as the field name.
As i know that asp.net fulfill all the requirements for any web application but what are the ground rules for creating custom httphandler and httpmodule in asp.net.Edit:For example I want to fetch image from database then what i should i use httphandler or normally read image from database.If httphandler then why?
I am implementing HttpModule for compressing request.Below is the codee for HttpModule:
public class Global : IHttpModule { public void Init(HttpApplication app) {[code]....
It's able to intercept and compress js and css in the development web server but when i run it from IIS 5.1 it is not able to compress js and css files.
