Oct 27, 2010I made a web form on a development website of mine (we'll call it dev.somewhere.com) and tried to publish it out to the web (we'll call it [URL]) in a subfolder. I named it default.aspx like I was supposed to and it worked flawlessly on the dev site. When I published it out the web, I wound up getting the following error when trying to get to the subfolder: [URL] Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. Confused and flustered, I tried to go to [URL], but I wound up with some error that won't tell me the problem. Instead it tells me to change the my web.config to read <customErrors mode="Off"/>.

Nov 3, 2010I have some issues regarding listing images from inside a directory. What I want to do is to create a Default.aspx page that will search and list the images located inside a folder of my website (where I simply drop them in it). I tried with a treeview, DirectoryInfo and both worked when I compiled my website with visual studio, but when I access them via another computer, I get a 404 for the page. My bet is that iis7 is blocking my code from accessing the folder containing the images. Any idea of how to fix this and make it work ?the code I use to browse in my image folder

IIS 6 Does Not Pick Up The Default Document Shows "Directory Listing Denied"?

Browser Displaying "Directory Listing -- /"?
Dec 20, 2010I'm developing the most simple ASP.NET application which is giving me an annoying error.
I'm having a textbox- and a button-control, where I would like the text in the textbox to be saved to a database table when clicking the button. The text will be propagated to the database by means of a WCF service.
Since I'm a rather mediocre programmer, I tend to get errors now and then which results in lots of error messages displayed in the browser. That I can understand. I fix them and build my solution and press F5 to get going. But after fixing the errors, everytime the browser displays a directory listening like the one below instead of my astonishing UI.

I know how to work around but its tedious: in MainForm.aspx.cs I comment the rows concerning the call to the service, then I rebuild the solution, uncomment the call to the service and rebuild the solution again. Then everything works as expected till I ran into the next bug.

Aug 19, 2010The Security is working fine when testing on a local machine, but when it gets published to the server, it seems that It can't get any active directory information at all.
For example, on the local computer <asp:LoginName ID="LoginName1" FormatString="(Welcome {0})" CssClass="loginname" runat="server" /> returns "Welcome DOMAINusername" but when it's published, it doesn't return anything at all.
Using code i've added users to the correct roles and checked they are really in the roles, but security when published won't recognise the current user's name, so it all fails.

But when i deploy that in IIS it gives me "The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory." error. Anybody know what went wrong?? There is no default.aspx page when creating a MVC2 project in VS2010. is that the problem? I can assure the routes are configured correctly in global.aspx.

Sep 23, 2010our project using active directory on vb.net 1.1 and server 2003. We will be upgrade to vb.net 3.5 and server 2008.
In this case, 1. We convert all vb.net 1.1 application to vb.net 3.5 and run on server 2003.
Then later on, 2. Our server will upgrade to server 2003 to server 2008.
I would linke to know after doing above two phase will effect on Active Directory code setting in our program.
Can I conver to 1 to 1 withut changing anything in vb.net and server?

Jan 7, 2011If I have a dll in bin (in a dev environment) that I need to debug and the dll doesn't currently have its associated PDB file in bin, what's the best way to get the PDB file into bin (if I have the source code of the dll)? Will it work to just copy the PDB to bin, or if I re-add the reference to the source dll through visual studio will that also bring in the pdb?

Nov 2, 2010First of all, I am trying to deploy a web application, without virtual directory. Yes...I have no other option but to try this due to some non-tehnical constraints.
Now, I have developed an ASP.NET 3.5 Web application, which works fine on my local ASP.NET Development Web Server. Then, I published the application to the actual webserver using the VS2008 Publish... option. When I got some error messages related to web.config, I removed the corresponding items from the web.config.
When I can access the page but the code inside the page doesn't really work. When I open the Default.aspx, which is directly under the website, I keep on getting this error:
Compiler Error Message: CS0246: The type or namespace name 'DynamicLoadControl' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
This DynamicLoadControl is a class that I have developed and is present in App_CodeDynamicLoadControl.cs file (in the same namespace).
I have searched a lot and tried everything except creating a virtual directory. First of all, is it possible to have asp.net 3.5 website without virtual directory.

Dec 2, 2010I'm trying to deploy my web project to my local IIS server (C:inetpubwwwrootlunchbox). By default the in is created inside the project directory - i.e lunchboxin. This setup, however, gives me the following error when I try to open the site:
When I move the in directory outside the project root (i.e C:inetpubwwwrootin), the site opens up just fine. I'm also able to test the web project from Visual Studio without any issues.
Can someone tell me why I have to move the in directory outside the project root to make the site work? What can I do to not have to do this?
