I am trying to deploy a simple page that just has 3 textboxes and a button that calculates 2 numbers.I copied the site to my server and when I try to go to the site throught IE I get the error below. How do I reslove this runtime error?
Server Error in '/' Application.
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

I have just installed Visual Studio 2010 trial. Previously I have been using Visual Studio Web Developer 2010 Express. Now every time I try to invoke the ASP.net Cofiguration tool either via the icon or through the Project File Menu item, I get the error message "An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again." I am trying to develop a bog standard Silverlight Business Application. There are no other diagnostics. Is there anywhere I can look for more clues or anything else to do to alleviate the problem? or is this something peculiar to the trial version I am using?
I also think it might have something to do with the fact that I have created this Silverlight Business App on a directory on my D: drive and not the normal, default c: drive path and maybe the web sit admin tool is looking somewhere else. Could this have something to do with it? If so what is my remedy?

the situation is quite complex ( and my english very basic) but let's try to explain:
i'm developing a Asp.net web service calling a method from an external dll. This external dll calls some method from other .net dlls. So we have:
Asp.net WS ----> External.dll ----> other.NEt.Dll(---> other .netdll)
You have to know that the external dll uses a path ( given by an initialize method) to resolve its internal reference. In conclusion i have a web application with an added reference to my External.dll and a fully trusted path ( c:EXTERNAL ) full of all the .net dlls needed by external.dll. Looking around i've found this code to add to the application_START:
Dim path As String = String.Concat(System.Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("PATH"), ";", "c:EXTERNAL)
System.Environment.SetEnvironmentVariable("PATH", path, EnvironmentVariableTarget.Machine)
this add my c:EXTERNAL to global environment PATH. With this configuration running from the Visual Studio development server i get no error and it all works correctly. When i publish the application on my local IIS server it gives various errors: At first the result is something like:
Failure reading <Myobject> control of <(static)> type
Unable to create <myobject> object (<C:(WRONGPATH)
eeded.net.dll> assembly)
To resolve this i've tried to add the needed .net dlls to the /bin of my application in wwwroot but the result is something like:
Failure reading <MyType> control of <Myobject> type
Error returned by .NET Framework:
System.ArgumentException: Un oggetto di tipo 'ComNet.BaseControl.LoginDisplayLayout' non può essere convertito nel tipo 'ComNet.BaseControl.LoginDisplayLayout'.
in System.RuntimeType.CheckValue(Object value, Binder binder, CultureInfo culture, BindingFlags invokeAttr)
in System.Reflection.MethodBase.CheckArguments(Object[] parameters, Binder binder, BindingFlags invokeAttr, CultureInfo culture, Signature sig)
in System.Reflection.RuntimeMethodInfo.Invoke(Object obj, BindingFlags invokeAttr, Binder binder, Object[] parameters, CultureInfo culture, Boolean skipVisibilityChecks)

in CDotNetType.bSetProperty(CDotNetType* , Object gcrObj, SByte* pszNom, CSLevel* pclPile, Int32 nDimension, Int32* pnTabDimension, STOperationDotNet* pstOperation)
this time it looks like it's loading the same dll but from different location causing conflicts. Now that's all. Its hard for me to explain this dll-hell but basically i would like to replicate whats happening when the application works well in the visual studio development server. I've also read that IIS does not resolve Added PATH without rebooting so i tried to add c:external manually to the PATH and reboot but same errors appears.

I Have a problem here with Visual Web devoloper 2010 , When I click the "Asp.net Configuration" , the browser doesn't open the Web Site Administration Tool but the icon does appear in the notification area , on right clicking the icon it opens up the Web Site Administration Tool in the browser and displays "An error was encountered. On the other hand I don't have any issues using "Asp.net Configuration" with Visual Web Devoloper 2008

But when i deploy that in IIS it gives me "The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory." error. Anybody know what went wrong?? There is no default.aspx page when creating a MVC2 project in VS2010. is that the problem? I can assure the routes are configured correctly in global.aspx.

There seems to be an issue with the "Trust" level when executing within a "Cloud" environment. In order for the following app to work it needs a trust level of at least "Medium." This web app is developed using VB.NET 3.5, and Visual Studio 2008. The app works perfectly on my local sever but when deployed/published to the "Cloud" it returns the error: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I have added all 4 required values, ConsumerKey, ConsumerSecret, OAuthToken, and OAuthTokenSecret to the web.config file in the "appSettings" section of the "configuration"
[Code]....
If found that by going to [URL] and signing into the account that is using the application, then go to the "Settings" page, go to the bottom of the page and click on the "API" menu option. Once the API page appears you will clik on the button "2", Register An App. On the right side on the new page, you will see a button "View Your Applications." If you have previously registered your app, click this button, If not fill out the appliction for a new app. Now at the View your Applications page, select the app you want to get the authorization keys for where is says "Edit Details". Now click on the button to the right that says, "Application Detail." Here you will find your Consumer Key and your Consumer Secret Key. On the right side of this page you will see the menu option "My Access Token", click it and you will find your oauth_token and your oauth_token_secret keys! Not that you have all the keys, put them in the "appSettings" section of the web.config file. Add "Dim twConn As New TwitterVB2.TwitterAPI" at the top of the page.
I then created a subroutine where I pass in the Tweet:
[Code]....
This code works great in an enviornment that allows at least a "Medium" trust level. However it appears that many of the "new" hosting envrionments such as "Cloud Hosting" and others do not allow this trust level automatically!However if the trust level is less than "Medium" on your host you will likely receive the error message: "Twitter Returned: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed." If anyone has found a fix for this "Trust Level"

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this. Ok, I have a website in which the solution and webfiles are in Team Foundation Server's source control. My workspace is on my local PC. If I go to Website > ASP.NET Configuration to manage the site using the web admin tool I get an error message from the web admin tool:
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Now, if I copy the exact site (just the website, but not the solution .sln file)to another location on my PC then choose open website in VS and fire up the web admin tool, it starts no problem.
I have no idea why this is happening and unfortunately the web admin tool doesn't give any other info other than that error message. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

, I've researched this quite a bit and I'm just not seeing the problem. The app runs beautifully when living on my pc - the app on my pc connects successfully to the SQL Server 2008 Express Database (which sits on a server - not my pc). However, as soon as I publish this application to the server that the SQL Server 2008 Express Database sits on, I get this error when I try to run the application:
ERROR [42S02][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'user'
It's behaving as if it either doesn't know where the table is when the app tries to run on the same server as the database or maybe the app doesn't have permission to hit the database once the app is on the same server as the database. I have connections on my pc and the server defined for this database, I verified that I set up each connection the same. I've also tried connecting using [dbo].[user] and this doesn't remedy the situation either. my connection string is in my web.config and it looks like this:
<add name="directoryConnectionString" connectionString="DSN=directoryProd" providerName="System.Data.Odbc" />
my sql looks like this:
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:directoryConnectionString%>"
ProviderName="System.Data.Odbc"
SelectCommand="SELECT fName FROM [user]"></asp:SqlDataSource>

I have this error: The configuration section 'connectionStrings' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration on my site when loading this page [URL]. The rest of the site works [URL] Setup:The server is a hosting company - Mocha Hosting. [URL] contains a phpbb forum. This has been installed via the hosting company's web tool (Plesk). There is a root web.config, but there isn't in the /forum/ folder. The forum folder has been set by the phpbb installation wizard to be a virtual directory and application - and it appears to not have asp.net configured on it. The forum worked BEFORE uploading the root web.config file, and again if i temporarily remove the root web.config.
