JQuery :: Multiline Textbox And Javascript Variable Using Ajax?
Jul 12, 2010
In my web application I have a textbox called "Address" which is multiline and have 3 rows and 250 characters.
I am calling a javascript function in which i am calling AJAX to send the data to a webservice for some processing but AJAX is unable to process variable which contains multiline text.
I am reading multiline textbox value like this in javascript function.
var puid = document.getElementById('<%=userid.ClientID%>').value;
var paddress = document.getElementById('<%=xaddress.ClientID%>').value;
and passing like this.
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url : "DataService.asmx/UpdateProfile",
data: "{'puserid': ' " + puid + 'padd': ' " + paddress + " '}",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: OnSuccess,
error: OnError
});
If I comment paddress parameters in ajax "data:" it works fine other wise ajax goes on "OnError" ...so how to handle multiline textbox values in javascript.

I would like to pass the content from a multiline textbox into an sql database using jQuery .ajax.
function UpdateMemogramContent() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "MemogramWebServices.asmx/UpdateMemogramContent",
data: "{ 'mId': " + $("#LabelId").text() + ", 'content': " + $("#TextBoxContent").text() + "}",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: Success,
error: Error
});
}
The problem I am facing is that the content from the multiline textbox is throwing an invalid json primitive exception. Taking a look at the POST:
{ 'mId': 314, 'content': Test
Test}
What can I do to pass the text from a multiline textbox into an sql database using .ajax?

I'm writing some Javascript code for an ASP.net page. have the string "foo" assigned to a string variable myString.I would like to assign the value of myString to a JavaScript variable, so I write in my ASP.net code:
<script type='txt/javascript' language='javascript'>
var stringFromDotNet = '<%=myString%>';
</script>
This works fine as long as myString does not contain quotation marks or line-breaks, but as as soon as I try to assign something with quotation marks or line-breaks, all hell breaks loose and my code doesn't work.

I am using the ajax control toolkit tabcontainer with 5 tab panels inside of it. Each tab contains areas where one must input information. The page also contains add, edit, and delete buttons with gridviews above them. What I am trying to do is to make the user save or cancel changes when they change the activetab. I am using a javascript confirm box but I need to try to retrieve the value of what is pressed from the javascript box to decide whether to discard the changes or stay on the page and make the user finish the input. Is there any way to save the value from the javascript box into a variable so or must i try something else?
PS I wasnt sure whether to post this in the javascript section or the asp.net section since im using asp.net with c#.This is kinda what im using but would like to turn it into a confirm box and pull the true or false value.
protected void TabContainerContent_ActiveTabChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (TabContainerContent.ActiveTabIndex != 0)

I have an ASP.NET TextBox ID="txtDate" in my usercontrol. It has ValidationGroup="MyUC" set. Now my UC is inside a Repeater Control. So there will be multiple instances of the same textbox. I am able to get all textboxes like: $("[id$='_txtDate']");
Each of the txtDate will have a separate ValidationGroup assigned to it, dynamically. So I want to get a textbox based on the id + ValidationGroup using jQuery / javascript.
Edited based on Josiah's Reply and the way I found:
my scenario is kind of complicated to include entire code. In short the textboxes are attached to jquery datepicker and the code below runs when a date is selected. The same handler is attached to multiple textboxes. Here is what I have:
var valgrp="MyGroup"; /*this mygroup is dynamic but keeping static for e.g.*/
var txtdate1 = $("[id$='txtDate']").filter(function(){if(this.Validators!=null){return this.Validators[0].validationGroup == valgrp;}});
var txtdate2 = $("[id$='txtDate']").filter(function(){return this.validationGroup == valgrp;});
alert("date1- " + txtdate1.val()); /*this returns date selected from datepicker*/
alert("date2 " + txtdate2.val()); /*this returns empty*/
Depending on the date I want to do something else. So txtdate1 is currently working for me where I don't have to add class to my textbox. I was playing with the txtdate2 which isn't behaving how I was expecting and so I had to post this question.
Here is a sample test to see this.validationGroup not returned:
$(function () {
$("#btntest").click(function () {
$("[id$='txtDate']").each(function () {
alert(this.validationGroup);//returns undefined
alert(this.Validators[0].validationGroup); //returns "test"
});
});
});
<input id="btntest" type="button" value="button" />
<asp:TextBox ID="txtDate" runat="server" ValidationGroup="test"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RequiredFieldValidator1" runat="server" Text="*" ErrorMessage="Required." ControlToValidate="txtDate" ValidationGroup="test"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>

How can I pass two variable values to a web service web method using JavaScript and a DynamicPopulateExtender?
Some background of my issue:
I have a fully working cascading drop down list accessing a database.
My parent Cascading Drop Down List is a list of countries and the child displays the relative regions i.e.: USA returns Iowa, Maryland, Oregon etc.
I also have a 3rd Drop Down List control that allows the user to select the language to display the region details i.e.: Selecting the language of Chinese will return a list of regions of the USA in Chinese (held in the database).
I now want to display the translated country name from the 3rd Drop Down List in a label on the page.
I cannot just use the text from the country drop down list as this text value remains in English. The translated value must be returned from the database.
So far, I have installed a DynamicPopulateExtender:
[Code]....
I then wrote a web method (in the Cascading Drop Down local Web Service) to return the translated country name. To do this I have had to hard code the countryID (10663) and the translationLanguageID (1331) asshown below:
[Code]....
This does return the translated country name, but the variables are hard coded!
My question is how do I pass the countryID and the translationLanguageID to the Web Method GetTranslatedCountryName() from the DynamicPopulateExtender? Or even if there is a better way to achieve my task?

I would think that this would work pretty seamlessly, but I am having trouble getting the text from a textBox control in an accordion pane's content to pass into the paypal web payments https post.
If I put an amount in the querystring in my codebehind isntead of passing the text string and click the button in the accordion pane, it works perfectly on the paypal page. But for some reason, I am getting a null return in the text string when I try to make the amount in the querystring whatever the text in the textbox is.
I have tried putting the accordion in an update panel and got the same results....
Am I missing something the get the text from the textbox?
Here is my accordian pane:
<cc1:AccordionPane ID="AccordionPane1" runat="server">
<Header>
<a href="" onclick="return false;" style="color:#FFFFFF; font-weight:bold;">Donor</a>
</Header>
<Content>
<b>$150-299</b>
<asp:BulletedList ID="BulletedList2" runat="server" Font-Size="Small">
<asp:ListItem>Program Listing</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>10% Off other productions</asp:ListItem>
</asp:BulletedList>
<div style="text-align:center;">
<asp:TextBox ID="donorAmt" runat="server" Width="100" Height="15px"></asp:TextBox> <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" Text="Make Payment Online" OnClick="LinkButton1_Click" />
<cc1:TextBoxWatermarkExtender ID="TextBoxWatermarkExtender1" runat="server" TargetControlID="donorAmt" WatermarkText="Your Amount" WatermarkCssClass="accTextWM" />
</div>
</Content>
</cc1:AccordionPane>
Here is how I am getting the text string in codeBehind:
Protected Sub LinkButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim amt As String = donorAmt.Text
Response.Redirect("https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=XXXXXX@XXXXX.org&amount=" & amt & "&no_note=0&item_name=ALT Donor Level Annual Membership&sra=1¬ify_url=http://XXXXX.com/IPN.aspx&no_shipping=0&return=http://www.XXXXXX.com/donate/thanks.aspx&rm=2")
End Sub
Note: Some of the paypal string has been removed for privacy

This is for a multiline textbox on an asp.net site. I can use either a html control or a an asp.net control but what I want to do is somehow recognize which line is being clicked - preferably server-side so that it works without javascript but a jquery solution would be fine as well. After the line is clicked I need to take the text from said line, and return an output after a xml lookup.
