Ajax Tab Container - To Save The Value From The Javascript Box Into A Variable?
May 17, 2010
I am using the ajax control toolkit tabcontainer with 5 tab panels inside of it. Each tab contains areas where one must input information. The page also contains add, edit, and delete buttons with gridviews above them. What I am trying to do is to make the user save or cancel changes when they change the activetab. I am using a javascript confirm box but I need to try to retrieve the value of what is pressed from the javascript box to decide whether to discard the changes or stay on the page and make the user finish the input. Is there any way to save the value from the javascript box into a variable so or must i try something else?
PS I wasnt sure whether to post this in the javascript section or the asp.net section since im using asp.net with c#.This is kinda what im using but would like to turn it into a confirm box and pull the true or false value.
protected void TabContainerContent_ActiveTabChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (TabContainerContent.ActiveTabIndex != 0)
[code]....

How can I pass two variable values to a web service web method using JavaScript and a DynamicPopulateExtender?
Some background of my issue:
I have a fully working cascading drop down list accessing a database.
My parent Cascading Drop Down List is a list of countries and the child displays the relative regions i.e.: USA returns Iowa, Maryland, Oregon etc.
I also have a 3rd Drop Down List control that allows the user to select the language to display the region details i.e.: Selecting the language of Chinese will return a list of regions of the USA in Chinese (held in the database).
I now want to display the translated country name from the 3rd Drop Down List in a label on the page.
I cannot just use the text from the country drop down list as this text value remains in English. The translated value must be returned from the database.
So far, I have installed a DynamicPopulateExtender:
[Code]....
I then wrote a web method (in the Cascading Drop Down local Web Service) to return the translated country name. To do this I have had to hard code the countryID (10663) and the translationLanguageID (1331) asshown below:
[Code]....
This does return the translated country name, but the variables are hard coded!
My question is how do I pass the countryID and the translationLanguageID to the Web Method GetTranslatedCountryName() from the DynamicPopulateExtender? Or even if there is a better way to achieve my task?

In my web application I have a textbox called "Address" which is multiline and have 3 rows and 250 characters.
I am calling a javascript function in which i am calling AJAX to send the data to a webservice for some processing but AJAX is unable to process variable which contains multiline text.
I am reading multiline textbox value like this in javascript function.
var puid = document.getElementById('<%=userid.ClientID%>').value;
var paddress = document.getElementById('<%=xaddress.ClientID%>').value;
and passing like this.
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url : "DataService.asmx/UpdateProfile",
data: "{'puserid': ' " + puid + 'padd': ' " + paddress + " '}",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: OnSuccess,
error: OnError
});
If I comment paddress parameters in ajax "data:" it works fine other wise ajax goes on "OnError" ...so how to handle multiline textbox values in javascript.

I'm evaluating two options of accessing a server side data on client side. Little bit confused about the efficiency or may be you can call it as finding best approach to do it.
I need to access a server side data may be an integer value in javascript on client side. I know about two options to do it.Create a public variable or property on server side and set it to javascript variable on client side as below:
var value = eval(<% =value %>);
Create a asp hidden variable and set value in this hidden variable from server side and access it through javascript using document.getElementById().
Which is the best approach and what are the pros and cons?

I am collecting user roles into a single dimension string array.
I have a repeater that its source set to that array. The repeater template includes list of checkboxes for the values in the array.The checkbox text is set to: Text='<%# Container.DataItem %>'
All is good till this point.
But I am trying to call a javascript function triggered by clickign a checkbox and pass it the container.dataitem, but the javascript doesn't seem to be reading the value and either complain about string not being in correct format or that treats the container.dataitem as a liter. This is the trial that didn't work (I tried many different things too):
DetermineVal(<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem) %>);
determineval is my javascript function
Can I do that with a single dimension array?

I have searched the web for the answer and saw that mostly variables are saved in viewstate on page.prerender event. Then the value of the variable is set back in page load event.However, when I save a variable in viewstate on prerender or load events, how can viewstate store the value of the variable after it is changed dynamically on codebehind?
Let's say, after page is loaded, user clicked a button which changes the value of the variable in its onClick event. Then the postback event raised since the button was clicked. According to me, the new value should have been lost and cannot be saved in the viewstate if the variable is saved in the viewstate only in prerender event. Because on postback the prerender event wont fire and the value cannot be saved.
Shouldn't I save the variable in the viewstate just before the postback event rises?? If so, how can viewstate store the new value of the variable if the viewstate is saved in prerender event?

I have a tab container on a web page, in which several panels are loaded with heavy peice of data, what i do, i only load the defualt tab data on page load, and the rest of data(i.e data in other tabs) loads behind the screen(i.e using asynchronous request), just to speed up page rendering. now when the page completely rendered(with only default tab data) the load event of javascript fires and it start populating data into other tabs, in this situation when i click any other tab immediately after rendering, it shows the half rendered panel(i.e the data is rendering in panel or the back process is running), which looks awkward sometimes.
So i need to stop the click of any tab until the data into that panel(or in all the panels) fully rendered, by displaying a wait or progress bar image, and then opens up that panel. i need whenever user click on a tab, a wait image should display on the tab header until the panel fully rendered, and then panel will opens up, none of the panel displays half or no data.

I'm new to ASP.NET, and I'm self-taught. I suspect that's the cause of my problem, but here goes. I'm using .NET 3.5 and have installed the toolkit. I want to add a Tab Container to an AJAX Webform. When I drag the control from the toolbox to the Webform, nothing happens. I saw that someone was having this problem with extenders, but I don't believe the Tab Container is an extender. If I'm wrong, let me know, but shouldn't I be able to place the tab container directly on the webform?

I am building a simple search interface for one of our existing systems. I am using windows authentication. What I would like to do is grab the username of the logged in user via httpcontext.current.user into a session variable on page load and use it in various places on my page. My problem is that when i run my code in debug mode from visual studio it works fine. But when i try to run my code from the browser using localhost it does not work.

My application is MVC Web App Chat Room , it supports following features:1.Create/Join/Close room 2.Send message in room (just live message, offline message might be supported in future)I have done logic for application, but I'm considering where to save chat room data (message,room information, and users in room) ? I see there are 2 options:1. Application variable2. Using file or database-What if I saved in Application variable:In case of there are 2000 rooms and 10000 users online, mean I have to persistence in Application variable (actually in RAM memory) information of 2000 rooms, more than 10000 message (text), these numbers might be increased by second if there are more users online in real time. and what's next ? I don't know what will happen to server, crash ? or my web app will be terminated ? whatever I don't want both results !
-What if I saved in file or DB (i.e: SQL Server DB) Because of web application, clients have to send request every 1 second to fetch data (messages and user list in room). So in case of there are 2000 rooms and 10000 users online, means they will make 10000 requests every 1 second to DB. I don't know what will happen to DB, there are a lot of connections and in EVERY 1 second, can DB still be alive to serve request ?I don't know where saving is good now because both seem are bad solution

Suppose there are three button and every butthon has a click event function.
Clicking the first button displays something on this page with a gridview taking data from databases.
After clicking the first button i stored the value in a variable.
But when i click the second or third button i get null value for that variable.
Clicking the second or third button the page reloads and the value of that variable becomes null.
How can i store the value to that variable permanently?

I am using the ajax control toolkit - Tabcontainer. I wonder how to refresh the latest data inside the tab. For example, I have two tab. The first tab is a add form. After I add the form, I prompt out a successful message. Then I click on the second tab which is my gridview listing of the inserted record. But when I click on the second tab, it seem not binding the gridview to show the most latest record I have inserted.

I have a web page with two tabs, "Release Inventory" and "Recreate Pull Sheet". I am using a tab container and tab panels. It looks fine in the design view but as soon as I view it in a brower the tabs don't show up. All I see is the Header text for the tabs. It looks like this:
"Release InventoryRecreate Pull Sheet"
You can click "Release Inventory" or "Recreate Pull Shee" and you will see the information in the tabs, but the actual tab appearance is not showing up.
