i'm trying make some stuffs in jQuery using asp.net. but the id from runat="server" is not the same as the id used in html.
i'm used to use this to get the id from this situation:
$("#<%=txtTest.ClientID%>").val();
but in this case. it does not work, and i'm clueless why.

How to access to an HTML control runat server from JavaScript
I have a span control which I am filling using Jquery. At the page load I want this span say id1 to be invisible and depending on some conditions I am making it visible via jquery itself.
When I make id1 runat = server and try to access id1 from codebehing, then I get an error in Jquery.
Hence I need a way to make id1 invisble at the load time itself.
I have already set id1 = invisble in HTML, But still I see this control on the page till the time jquery fills the entire data.
With jQuery, in (document).ready I assigned a click function to all buttons of my asp.net (aspx) page. When I click a button outside , the function works properly.
When clicking a button INSIDE the form, it doesn't work. Why?

Okay, this may seem silly, but on an ASP.NET .ascx control, I'm trying to use:
<input type="button" runat="server" />
instead of:
<asp:Button runat="server" />
And it's not working for me. This code:

That's mostly fine, except I want input type="button" not input type="submit".

Unfortunately the rendered button does not work. Also, I even tried input type="submit" just to check, but unless I use the <asp:Button> I can't get it to work. I'm sure it has something to do with the JavaScript.
Using jQuery I want to be able to click an element which will also checks it's related radio button. I had this working fine until we had to add runat="server" to the radio buttons.When I apply this it prevents my jQuery function from working how to get round it, heres a simplified version of the code:HTML

I've found out that when its converted to a .net control instead of checked="checked" (as it would be usually) it is just Checked, so I changed that but on inspecting the DOM in multiple browsers, none of my radio buttons are being checked(Are there any other ways I can use jQuery to check a radio button that has runat="server"?

Here is the trick, the control "fileLIST_FILE" does not exist because the HTML does not have runat=server on it.
If the client did have runat=server the designer.cs would have somethign liek this:

When I use an anchor tag on an aspx page as below,

it will get the variable value correctly assigned to id but it won't route the page correctly as the ~ will not be evaluated without the runat="server" attribute on the 'a' tag. But once I add the runat server attribute, it does not evaluate the servervariable name anymore.. how this works or what I should do to take care of both?

Its simple if I have an ASP.net page with an ASP.net linkbutton / hyperlink and I obtain a value from say a SQL Database and I store it in the label...
For example:
this.myLabel.Text = someValueReturnedFromADatabase
This is simple because it goes right to the code behind page and set the text value to the value returned from my database (aside from going into more details with data access layer, etc).
What I was wondering is what if I dont want to use an ASP.net linkbutton and I simply want to use an HTML link button (as I need to call the jquery fade function). How would I set the value someValueReturnedFromADatabase to a control that is not runat=server?

View 4 RepliesI have created a new Web project (.Net 3.5) and I've removed the original Default page in favour of creating a Master page and then recreating a Default with Master page. All worked lovely. Now, when I add my controls inside of the ContentPlaceHolder on the Default page, I get compiler errors when I try to access the controls from the CodeFile:
Error 4 '_Default' does not contain a definition for 'FirstName' and no extension method 'FirstName' accepting a first argument of type '_Default' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

I've been struggling with this issue for a while. I'm trying to send an object to the client. Once the client updates the object I'd like to post it back to the server and save it in my database. The first part works fine. However, when I send it back all the dates are messed up and start for year 0001. I assume that's because it can't deserialize the date. I have this problem - I'm working on an ASP.NET AJAX-application on a server without .net 3.5 which means I can't use ListView (BOO!).
I decided to simply do the ugly way of making a table and giving the tbody an ID and a runat server tag, and put HtmlControls inside from the codebehind (btw - this is a usercontrol, in case it makes a difference).
This all works fine - until the page does a partial postback - and all the elements disappear, since the tag is runat server I assume it requires to be repopulated in the page load.
Is there no way to actually persist the data on partial postback? And only have the content of the control change when I say so in the back end?
I guess I could save the content in a session object upon populating the control, and just repopulate in the Page_Load with the session object - but I was hoping there was a better way to do this?
Since upgrading to VS2010, I've been having issuse up on issues with my apps. Some are pure asp.net web sites, other are webpats that are eventually be converted to a Sharepoint web part.
In one of these webparts, I'm building a tab control on the fly. It fetches data from the table via bll/dal. On my dev box I build this in the code file of the default.aspx file and rendering it in a panel, except that it get the said error. I'm quite sure this is how I've done it in VS2008, so I don't know what is going on here - see my code below.
