Javascript Window.onunload Fires Off After Page_Load?
Mar 2, 2010
I have noticed that window.onunload event fires off AFTER page_load event which makes no sense.
This behaviour is creating an issue for me - in my unonload I clear the session, so if the Page_Load first BEFORE onunload, there are errors on the page displayed.
I would expect the javascript onunload to fire BEFORE Page_Load....is that the correct assumption?
TO CLARIFY: Let's assume I am on page test.aspx, then I click on the link that goes to the same page (say I click on a menu), what I observe is that Page_Load fires first, then onunload fires off.
Makes no sense at all.
I am working on a feature to throw a warning message if the user has unsaved values in a form. I can see that in the next post there is a explanation about how to do that [URL]now the problem is that i need to do the same but using a ascx control and i don't know where put the next code in my ascx control.
<body onunload="checkSave()">
NB: I'm working on dnn so that i don't have any change to add this code in the parent page of the control.
Page_load event fires two time in firefox and the same page is working fine in IE. What might be the problem? If it is problem with Autoeventwireup then page_load event must fire two times in IE too. I believe it is not a issue of Autoeventwireup.
I have a page which contains linkbuttons and panels. all panels have DetalilView and gridView controls. On click of linkbutton, panel's visibility is set. everything works fine on my local server. But on production server, no events of Button, DetailsView and GridView fires.
I have a dynamically created user control which is accomplished usingLoadControl().
When I debug, the LoadControl call is called once, however the Page_Load inside the user control is called twice. On each occasion, the postback property is false, so it seems somehow the Page_Load event is called outright 2 times and nothing to do with any postback?
I have a web page with a nested grid. I bind the nested grid via the outer Gridviews RowDatabound. The problem I'm having is when a user click on a CommandField in the nested child grid the Page_Load event is fireing twice and reloading the grids, making it appear that the nest grid collapsed. I have tried using "If Not Page.IsPostBack" but because the page posts back twice the IsPostBack is false until the second time the Page_Load event fires.
Here is my Page_Load routine
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim test As Boolean = ScriptManager.GetCurrent(Me.Page).IsInAsyncPostBack If Not Me.Page.IsPostBack Then If Not ScriptManager.GetCurrent(Me.Page).IsInAsyncPostBack Then
Basic concept of AJAX is to cause Partial post back of the Page. If we use AJAX, Page Load occurs, than what is the difference between normal Pages' Page_Load event (without ajax) and Page load event of a Page with ajax.
I've tried to wrap up my problem with a complete example below - the original problem is part of a jQuery plug-in that I'm writing to extend the behaviour of an ASP.NET ajax application I already have.
The aspx page below has one drop down list which is marked for auto post back. I've also bound a change event using jquery (which ultimately I will swap for a .live() event to maintain the binding after the update panel refresh.) The problem is, when the jQuery event is bound I see two ajax begin requests and page_loads fire but only one ddlTest_OnselectedIndexChanged event. One of the page loads is malformed too - the content-length states it's about 300 bytes long whilst the totalBytes is 0 and form data empty. This does not happen if I bind to the click event of a button.
I need to be able to flag ANY PartyId input field with class="PartyLookup" so that it will modify the DOM and include the image next to the input field. The popup window returns data to populate both the hidden and text fields, but since the click() is generic I need to pass it the ID of the input field.
I've got a Jquery function that I wrote which blacks out the screen after a certain amount of inactivity, creates a pop-up that allows the user to click a button to stay logged in, and logs them out (closing the application window) if they do not respond in time.
The environment is ASP.NET (VB). We don't technically use master pages, but we do have a parent page in which our header, footer and nav reside, and my Jquery code is called from that window, loaded via an IFrame.My problem is that if one is working in a child window, the parent window doesn't recognize that the system is in use, and will automatically engage at the allocated time.I've tried everything under the sun I can think of and nothing works properly. My event handler is working, and it does call the parent window function, but the timer is not being reset.
I have this function in the parent window:
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function window.reportChildActivity() { SESSION_ALIVE = true; [code]....
we are running a click-to-call service, my idea is basically like this: website have a link on their page, when the link is clicked, a web page(say it is popup.aspx) hosted on our server is popup, user can input their phone number, and click "call me" button to let the website call him. In the button click event, I want to get Request.UrlReferrer, then query the db to get website's phone. But in IE, Request.UrlReferrer is null(firefox is ok, not test chrome yet),my question is how to get opening window' url in IE? we put popup.aspx on our server because
our client website is not force to use asp.net. we have the control what we put on the popup window, and can modify the page just from our side, if we put the pop window on our partner's side, if we have 100 partner, and we change the page's design, we will notify everyone of them to change this, change that. we can implement a statics system to know how popup a day, which site is most popular,etc
I am using the javascript to open a child window using window.showModaldialog(), i have retuen a value from the child page is working fine in IE and firefox but is not working in chrome browser, is there any work around or alternative for it to work in chrome as well.
I've got an odd situation with a text box and an autocomplete setup on my page. I'm using a JQuery based autocomplete on a text box that has AutoPostBack="True". This works perfect if I use the keyboard to select an autocomplete item, which then fires Jquery to fill in the text box, and then when I tab out of the box the AutoPostBack fires. If, however, I click on an autocomplete item, my text box loses focus first and the AutoPostBack fires before the Jquery has a chance to change the text in my text box. Is there a way to delay either the PostBack or the Jquery so that they don't fight each other? I'm thinking it may have to be the PostBack that gets changed, since the JQuery would lose it's state on the PostBack
Is it possible to fire a JavaScript method after a form element is considered invalid? Here is my scenario:
There are 2 tabs on the ASPX page. The user has to fill out info on both tabs. The user, while on tab 2 clicks the submit button. However, there is a required field on tab one that needs attention. Do I need to create a custom valuator (either a CustomValidator control or create a new control from the base valuator) to call a JavaScript function to display tab 1 and show where the error is?
So, in the above on the Master Page onload I am calling the javascript to get the screen resolution Then in my default page....which is being used first. My master page is loading and then my default page is loading. I have this is my Page Load event
[Code]....
However, what is happening is that I am getting the MessageBox.Show from the default page saying the screen is <null> by <null> and then I start getting the alert boxes from the javascript saying what the screen width and screen height is. In my page Load event of default. how can I wait until the java script in Master is done? Or is the a better place to put these events?
I am developing a website and find problems on onunload event.
As the code below, it aims to modify the database when the 'X' of browser is clicked or it navigator to other page. However, when the AAA.aspx is loaded, it is found that end() would be run and already modify the database and change the status as 1, which is not my aim.
I have two webpages, parent page .aspx and child page .html. On parent page I have JavaScript function for invoking child page as modal window via window.showModalDialog.
function viewCourseModal(url) {
var sPars = SomeParameters(); var returnedValue = window.showModalDialog(url, "", sPars);[CODE]...
So when I launch parent window and invoke child modal window, parameter with "someValue" gets returned to the parent window (to modalReadyForTest control) upon clicking the button Button1.It works fine when I have both parent and child pages on the same domain. When I have them on different domains, value of the parameters does not get passed and instead it is always "undefined".Is there any way to have modal window from different domain returning parameter value to parent page? Can those cross domain issues be solved at all or should I try completely different approach?
In the first Page_Load, I am activating a javascript function to make an ImageButton change between 2 images with an interval.
This works fine.
Now when pressing this imagebutton, the Page_Load event will fire the second time and all this is happening in an updatepanel which means a partial postback.
The question is how to execute the javascript function stopbk() in the Page_Load event in this scenario as I cant just put it in the "Onload". How can I make that work?
I am reimplementing an ASP.NET application with a main page (Call it "MyMainPage") which contains a user control. (Call it "MyNavControl") Within that user control is a menu control provided by a third party. Items added to this third party control have an "Href" property that is passed a URL. The code to create a menu subitem, contained within the codebehind of the .ascx for MyNavControl, goes something like this:
ThirdParty.MenuItem subitem = new ThirdParty.MenuItem(); subitem.Href="MyMainPage.aspx?_page=PremiumCustomer&_title=Premium";
MyMainPage also contains a user control representing the bulk of the page body. Let's call that MainBodyControl.ascx. The Page_Load() for the main page sets up some session values which are used in the Page_Load() for MainBodyControl.When the menu item on the main page is clicked, the main page's Page_Load() will be passed the arguments specified in the menu item control's "Href" value. So:
Here's my question: I'm replacing the third party controls with standard ASP.NET controls, so the current "Href" property mechanism can no longer be used. What would be the best way, in some JavaScript assigned to a menu item's click event, to set a new value for "_page" or "_title" above.
I am using a Timer with a 3 minutes interval. I am exeuting the Page_Load event every 3 minutes. I am doing that this way as I have all this code inside an UpdatePanel1 which causes
a partial unnoticed postback to the server. I have a lot of code in the Page_Load event that I havenīt put here.
But what does not work is the code I have in the Page_Load event now.
I am trying to execute the javascript function with this line: body1.Attributes.Add("Onload", "startbk()");
This function should start an imageButton to change image between 2 images. This function do works if I refresh the page so the function itself do works.
But it seems this function does not execute when the Timer executes the Page_Load event, so this is my problem how I can solve this?
I am opening a child window using window.showModalDialog() method. In the child page i have few server side controls whenever a postback happens the child page opens in a new window.
I have also set in my head tag,but it is not working.
<base target ="_self/>
For example In Page 1: i have an anchor on whose click i open a child page(page2). In my child page Page2: I have an asp.net button to search based on the criteria. when i enter the criteria and click search, the search results are show in new window rather then the same window.
