MVC :: 2 Custom Templates And Custom Lookup Fields?

Mar 31, 2010

i am working on an asp.net mvc 2 web app and inside my model i would like to include a field named "" that has the values "Male" and "Female". I would like to use custom templates and Data Annotations in order to take advantage of model metadata. Specifically, i would like to create one DisplayTemplate (displaying the value) and one EditorTemplate (displaying a dropdown list) for the "Sex" type field.

MVC :: Validating Custom Types And Html.EditorFor() Templates?

Sep 2, 2010

I'm finding my self with the problem that if I do not show the Template for a "complex" object I have in the main view object I still get the errors in the summary. How do i get around this?

I've got a model with say:

->Persons (has its own editor template)
->Pets(has its own editor template)

In the create view I show each one depending if they are not null. But when I try to validate HouseType and say I have Persons not null and pets is null. I get errors of validation for pets.

How do I get around this?

How To Lookup Table For Three Fields

Nov 22, 2010

I have asp.net Forms View.

I have three textboxes to lookup three different product codes from a product lookup table.

When you enter search criteria in a Textbox it would popup listbox control with Products and

when user selects the product it populates product-id back in to textbox.

I have lookup table and listbox working. However, My problem is I can't figure out how to pupulate TextBox2 if search Criteria was typed into TextBox2and to populate TextBox 3 if the search criteria was typed into textbox 3 etc.

Web Forms :: Best Way To Dynamically Add Custom Fields To A Webform?

Nov 9, 2010

I have an application that allows the user to define custom fields that will later show up on a form for viewing and editing. The user defines the field type, label, length and other custom attributes about a field and these field definitions are stored in a database. The fields are loaded into an array of CustomField objects at runtime. Later when the page is rendered I want to be able to display these fields and if in edit mode allow the user to edit the fields.

what is the easiest way to throw these up on the webform for display and allow editing if edit mode is selected?

Security :: CreateUserWizard With Custom Fields - Validation?

Everything inserts fine into the aspnet_ tables and my own table. However, I cannot get the form validation to work. In other words, the form is ignoring the RequiredFieldValidators that I added.

Custom Server Controls :: Custom Composite Control With Custom Templated Child Controls?

Mar 22, 2011

I am trying to build a custom composite control, which allows me to add custom content to each child control. It's a similar concept to what you have with a GridView and TemplateColumn. The markup used to place the control on the page would end up being something like this:

[Code]....

I have the code below, which allows me to put that markup on the page without throwing any errors, and it renders all the correct HTML, except it doesn't render the contents of the ColumnTemplate. I have replaced the Render() code with a comment because it's quite long winded and doesn't add anything important here:

[Code]....

I have tried to follow examples on MSDN and other forums but I can't make this work. I think I'm missing the code to render the contents of the template, but I don't know how to hook that up.

MVC - Posting A Form With Custom Fields Of Different Data Types?

Dec 10, 2010

In my ASP.NET MVC 2 web application, I allow users to create custom input fields of different data types to extend our basic input form. While tricky, building the input form from a collection of custom fields is straight-forward enough.However, I'm now to the point where I want to handle the posting of this form and I'm not certain what the best way to handle this would be. Normally, we'd use strongly-typed input models that get bound from the various statically-typed inputs available on the form. However, I'm at a loss for how to do this with a variable number of input fields that represent different data types.A representative input form might look something like:

My date field: [ date time input
control ]
My text field: [ text input
field ]
My file field: [ file upload
control ]
My number field: [ numerical input control ]
My text field 2: [text input field ]
etc...

Ideas I've thought about are:Sending everything as strings (except for the file inputs, which would need to be handled specially).Using a model with an "object" property and attempting to bind to that (if this is even possible).Sending a json request to my controller with the data encoded properly and attempting to parse that.Manually processing the form collection in my controller post action - certainly an option, but I'd love to avoid this.Has anyone tackled an issue like this before? If so, how did you solve it?Update:My "base" form is handled on another input area all together, so a solution doesn't need to account for any sort of inheritence magic for this. I'm just interested in handling the custom fields on this interface, not my "base" ones.Update 2:Thank you to ARM and smartcaveman; both of you provided good guidance for how this could be done. I will update this question with my final solution once its been implemented.

Security :: Custom Fields Using The Create User Component?

Jul 19, 2010

I have searched everywhere and can't find a great solution. All I want to do is have about 40 extra fields that save to a SQL database when creating a new user. Will also need to keep the functionality of roles so I don't want to completely override the built in functions.

I have seen the ability to put the data into a profile, but as I understand that will not save to the database in a form that I could join/select against.

There's the ability to tie onto the end of the CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser, but then it's an extra select/insert into a separate table. Would be nice if I could keep everything in 1 function and in 1 table.

So what is the best way to add a bunch of extra fields into the database when creating a new user?

Security :: Extend Default Profile Fields Into Second Custom Table

Apr 23, 2010

I am trying to use a second (custom) table to extend my users profile info. This table is in the same database as the 'aspnet_Users' table but has a different name. I create a FK relationship between the 'aspnet_Users' table and my custom table. Here is my web.config code:

<profile defaultProvider="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider">
<providers>
<clear />
<add name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider"
type="System.Web.Profile.SqlProfileProvider"
connectionStringName="ConString_SQLConnectionString"
applicationName="/" />
<add name="MyCustomProfile"
type="System.Web.Profile.SqlProfileProvider"
connectionStringName="ConString_SQLConnectionString"
applicationName="/"
table="MyProfileTable_Employees" />
</providers>
<properties>
<group name ="MyProfileInfo">
<add name="FirstName" type="string" defaultValue="[null]" customProviderData="FirstName;nvarchar" provider="MyCustomProfile" />
<add name="LastName" type="string" defaultValue="[null]" customProviderData="LastName;nvarchar" provider="MyCustomProfile" />
<add name="EmployeeNumber" type="int" defaultValue="[null]" customProviderData="EmployeeNumber;int" provider="MyCustomProfile" />
</group>
</properties>
</profile>

I have the table "MyProfileTable_Employees" poplulated with data the 'userid' matches to the aspnet_Users table. In my web application (vb), when I type in Profile.MyProfileInfo, there are no custom fields. Actually, when I type profile., there are no profile related entries. What am I missing here? Am I miss-interpting what a custom profile provider is?

MVC - Mark Multiple Fields Invalid In Custom Validation Attribute?

Mar 2, 2011

I have a form where users enter their preferred contact method. It has:

- a radio button where a user selects whether they'd like to be contact by phone or email or either

- a textbox for the user's email address

- a textbox for the user's phone number

I have validation via a custom attribute that verifies that if the user selected phone they entered a phone number, if they selected email they entered an email, etc... but it's at a class level on my ViewModel. As such the validation doesn't mark the expected field as invalid.

Is there a way that my IsValid override (or some other method) can mark the child property's value as invalid so I get highlighting?

Security :: Reading Custom Profile Fields From DropDownLists Failing?

May 8, 2010

So I'm using the CreateUserWizard tool, which is working great, and have added a few custom fields to the user's Profile, which is also working great... with one exception. The fields that I'm capturing from TextBoxes are being saved to the database perfectly. But those I'm trying to capture from DropDownLists aren't being saved. No error is taking place, either in my code or at runtime, but no data is being written to the table from these particular fields.

I thought I knew how to capture data from a DropDownList in ASP.NET (I'm a newbie, but not ridiculously so), but I've tried a bunch of stuff here and nothing seems to be working. I'm posting an abbreviated version of my CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser function below, with comments...

protected void CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//Get the profile of the user by finding the profile by name
TextBox oUserName = (TextBox)CreateUserWizard1.CreateUserStep.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("UserName");

[Code]....

Forms Data Controls :: Create Custom Fields For GridView Control?

i would like to create custom columns in the GridView Control.For example:After performing SQL query, there are 4 columns bound to the control:
1. ID
2. Name
3. LA

Trying To Implement Custom Profile Fields In Visual Studio 2008 Web Application Project?

Mar 18, 2010

I've been working on this for a while now and nothing has been a bigger pain in asp.net. I'm trying to implement custom profile fields in my visual studio 2008 web application project. I've read a lot of tutorials but they all seem to be either out dated or don't apply to web application projects. Last night I got a little closer to solving the problem when I found the "Web Profile Builder" for web applications. I've successfully set this up and can handle static profile data.I've got my web.config file setup and I can access my custom profile fields by Profile.CustomField. Now I want to figure out how I integrate this with the database and data connection. I know there are two standard ways to handle this, I would like to create new columns in the aspnet_Profile database (rather than the delimited key/value option).I'm pretty new to asp.net and this is my first project with c#, .net, and asp.

Custom Role Provider - Additional Fields - Represent Multi - Layered Security Model

Apr 4, 2011

There are multiple roles. (Role A, Role B etc) There are multiple input/output fields. (Field A, Field B etc) There are multiple permission levels controlling access to each field. (Read, Direct Edit, Edit With Approval, None) Each role has its own permissions to fields. (Role A has Read Permission to Field A; Role B has Direct Edit permission to Field A etc) Every role can be assigned to users and they are assigned by Geographic information. (User A is assigned to Role A for Continent: Europe - Country: Germany; User B is assigned to Role A for Continent: Europe - Country: France; User A is assigned to Role B for Continent: Europe - Country: France etc) Users can have multiple roles User identity is coming from Windows Authentication.

is it possible to represent this type of kind of multi-layered security model using ASP.NET internal membership/role providers? If so, what should my starting point be? Creating only custom role provider with custom methods and fields be enough?
