I am just wondering whether it is possible to return the name of the view an ascx control is currently being rendered in? Is there an object I can use to access the name?
Basically I want the control to dynamically set certain text within itself dependant on the view it is rendered within.
I have one IIS entry with AppPool integrated mode. There are 5 or more host headers assigned. The application pulls data based on the host name from Request.Url.Host. When I have 2 or more sites open at the same time the value of the Request.Url.Host is the same across all the sites. About every 30 seconds it resets itself to the correct value from the last request and shows that value on the other sites. So ultimately the sites are loading the same data. The value in the HOST server variable is incorrect as well.

How can I archive the same thing in MVC? When ~/Address/Edit/2 includes an ascx partial view with a button on it that calls another MVC action - let's say ~/ShareController/CommonAction - what is the best way for the CmmonAction to return to the very same view that includes the ascx file?Perhaps I am missing a common pattern in MVC web development?
View 5 RepliesI am having difficulties how to construct my question, but if I have to put it simply the situation is that I have categories of products. I have an aspx with a repeater on the left that lists the categories. And I want the products to be listed on the right. Category number is variable so I made an ascx with a DataList in it. When I try to do foreach category, ascx = new ascx(); then the DataList within this ascx control is null.
ps: what I want to do is to preload all the products (thre is not much) and hide the divs and fadein fadeout them using jQuery when a category div is clicked.

Why does HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Host return a different URL than the URL used in the Web browser? For example, when entering "www.someurl.com" in the browser, the HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Host variable is equal to "www.someotherurl.com".
View 1 RepliesI've got an ASP .Net application running on IIS7. I'm using the current url that the site is running under to set some static properties on a class in my application. To do this, I'm getting the domain name using this (insde the class's static constructor):
var host = HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Host;
And it works fine on my dev machine (windows XP / Cassini). However, when I deploy to IIS7, I get an exception: "Request is not available in this context".
I'm guessing this is because I'm using this code in the static constructor of an object, which is getting executed in IIS before any requests come in; and Cassini doesn't trigger the static constructor until a request happens. Now, I didn't originally like the idea of pulling the domain name from the Request for this very reason, but it was the only place I found it =)
So, does anyone know of another place that I can get the host domain name? I'm assuming that ASP .Net has got to be aware of it at some level independent of HttpRequests, I just don't know how to access it.
I have a strongly typed partial view named "Address". This partial view contains 'input' fields associated to an Address model class. I want to render it twice in the same view because the user must input the Home address and the Business address.
I have problem with client validation because of the ID of the 'input' rendered is not unique.
Is there a way to set a kind of scope so the id of the 'input' for each partial view has a unique ID that can be recognized by the modelBinder , so that my page post back can correctly organize data into respective address type?
Given an instance of a control SomeControl that is in a some file (could be a usercontrol/ascx, or an aspx) how can I get a reference to the class to which it belongs?
In a usercontrol, SomeControl.NamingContainer seems to be reliable.
In a page that inherits from a MasterPage, this will return a reference to the ContentPlaceHolder, not the actual class that defines the aspx. What I would want in that case is SomeControl.Page
Parent will return the parent control in the heirarchy so isn't much use.
Is there any method for getting this directly regardless of what kind of thing it is?

I want to be able to click a Role record and have a list of users that pertain to that role displayed to the right of the Roles list. I'm sure I need to use a view model for this so I can get two sets of models in one view, but I'm not sure how to set up the view model.

On my front end page I am looking to something like as follows but it not returning and value.

View 3 RepliesI've been working on the Music Store tutorial and I cannot get my site to utilize the Album.ascx view template. For now I'll give the short version of my problem because I'm thinking I'm just missing something obvious. I'll provide further elaboration/code if needed. I'm stuck on Part 4. From my understanding, after adding the Shared folder and adding the Album.ascx partial file, I should be seeing this after browsing to the Store Manager Index and selecting an album to edit: Instead, I'm still seeing this: I even copied the code from the dowloaded solution for the Edit.aspx and Album.ascx files. It seems my project is completely disregarding my View Template.

This code works perfect in all cases until now. the script I am trying to run instead of the one above is to set the RetentionPolicy for a mailbox. The script I am trying to run looks like this: Set-Mailbox -Identity 'rj' -RetentionPolicy 'Main Campus Retention Policy' When I run this in powershell itself it works perfectly but when I try to run it using the code below I get the error, "Cannot invoke this function because the current host does not implement it."
From this error, it almost seems like the command that runs in C# cannot run the RetentionPolicy command but that doesn't make much sense. I have Googled this and tried everything suggested but no luck.
I want to return only the record or records from one table "tblUserInfo" to my details control where the records are related to the currently logged in user. I have a field in the "tblUserInfo" table named "UserName" that contains the value that is displayed as the current user name when the user logs in. My connections string is located in the WebConfig file and is being recogonized by VWD as being a connteciton string.

i'm having problems with this. I am developing an asp.net mvc 2 application. I have a partial view menu.ascx defined. this gets included on all the pages of my site in the Site.Master masterpage. Now the thing is I want my menu to change according to the type of user.Here's what I did at first:

I shouldn't be doing this in the view ! But since this is the MasterPage no controller actually calls it so I don't know where to put the info in the ViewData dictionnary or ViewModel to pass it to this masterpage.
I am calling a file download action from javascript:

This action has a pretty high likelyhood of throwing an exception (or at least not being able to return the file).
Due to the nature of the application (which contains a lot of dynamic content), I can't really redirect to an error page in this situation. The current page needs to stay open somehow.
So I'm ideally looking for something like a javascript pop-up, but afaik this isn't going to be possible since I don't know any way to return a javacript instruction in a non-ajaxed controller call. If I display an error page I need to force it to open in a new window some how. Is there any possible solution to this problem?

View 2 RepliesI have written a web usercontrol (ascx). Inside, there is a Panel that I want to show/hide on click of a hyperlink inside the usercontrol.
Normally, this is easy just by doing something like this (the onclick attribute is added to the hyperlink on prerender):

but because the ascx control is held within the gridview, the above will assess all the controls (of which there are many in the gridview) with the name 'PanelInvoiceHasBeenCreated'. The only time it will work is when there is 1 row in the gridview. Currently, with my existing code, if I click the hyperlink in any row, it shows/hides the panel in the bottom row of the gridview!
Therefore, my question is how do I get the actual, unique ID I need to show/hide on the correct control in the correct row?
