MVC :: Binding Each Gridview Column With A Property?
Mar 16, 2011Is their any way I can bind each column of the grid seperatly with each property? It is possible to do that in web form, but i am not sure about MVC grids.

The user control has public properties named accordingly and the page has protected properties accordingly which I've verified have the desired values.
For some reason the values are always empty strings or 0s in the usercontrol, no matter what the page property is.

grdIssues.DataSource = mdtIssues;
grdIssues.DataBind();
The problem is I cannot then control the column width, asp.net seems to decided on it's own what width each column should be. Methods such as
grdIssues.Columns[0].ItemStyle.Width = 100;
grdIssues.Columns[1].ItemStyle.Width = 100;
don't work because the columns are created dynamically. I cannot believe there isn't a way to do this short of manually creating each column and filling each row.

One colunm determines the priority of the message (high, low or no priority assigned) if the message row is empty put nothing in the row else put a ! in the row (to show high priority). Question is don't I need to bind that colunm and row?

i would like to change "james@hotmail.com" to "james" then bind it to gridview. Every rows of [userEmail] will be separated with the mail extension (@hotmail.com) ... how should i do..?

Apr 16, 2010how to bind data in an ItemTemplate column in my Gridview.
I have created an ObjectDatasource on my page bound to my Gridview using a Dataset from my linked SQL tables (PKs, FKs,etc...).
I am showing all my USERS table data in my Gridview but there are some columns which are ID's being displayed such as MembershipID, UserTypeID. These ID's are my foreign keys to other SQL tables.
I have easily been able to go into my EditTemplate for these columns, attach a new ObjectDataSource as a Lookup table, add a new DropDownList in place of the TextBox and then set Two-way binding so that the MembershipName & UserTypeName's are displayed for editing.
However, I cannot seem to work out how to do this Binding to the other ObjectDataSources in the ItemTemplate Label. Again i can make it work witha DDL, but i don't want any selections when just displaying the data in the Grid. I simply want the name to be shown in a label, but cannot work out the binding lookup?

After I set this value, the gridview become empty. Wonder if the False causing the column count to be 0.

C# - Get Width Of Column/cell In GridView When 'width' Property On Column/cell Is Not Set?
Mar 16, 2011I have a GridView, in which the width of each column is dynamic and changes depending on the dataset. I need to get the width of each column for use in my PDF exporter, but the column/cells width is always '0', presumably because I haven't set the width property.

Name(x) contains the state name in different languages. I get a collection of State from the method StateManager.GetAllStates() and I want to bind this collection to a DropDownList. The problem is that I can't find how to set the DataTextField property to let's say stateList.Name(1) which is the english name of my state.

Say I have a repeater bound to a collection of Customers and one of the properties of Customer is an array of addresses. How do I bind to the addresses property? I don't even need to display this information I just want to use it in the Repeaters ItemDataBound event. So I tried to bind a hiddenField to the addresses property but all I get for every customer in the hiddenfields value is an empty array of addresses.

May 19, 2010I have an ASCX that inherits from a WebControl that has a 'CustomConfiguration' property of type CollectionConfigurationItem. This configuration gets set elsewhere in the code, so by the time it gets to the ASCX it is set up to how I wish to use the data. At this point I'd like to render out another control using this configuration, like so:
<modules:DataModule runat="server" CustomConfiguration="<%# Model.CategoryListConfiguration %>" />
However, breaking into DataModule always results in 'CustomConfiguration' being null, which is the default value for the property. I've tried adding a Bindable attribute to the property but to no avail, and when I set an EventHandler for the DataBinding event on the DataModule it doesn't even get called.
How can I set this custom-class-typed property from the markup or, failing that what's the second-best method of getting this to work?

It's my intention to assign the ImageUrl of an Image control on the page, from the data in the table. I've placed a SQLDataSource control on the page, and then tried putting a FormView control there, and an Image control within that. But I don't see how I can assign the value to the ImageUrl property via data binding.
