SQL Server :: How To Set 'Default Value Or Binding' Property To Respective Row Number
Jan 28, 2011
I want to make my column unique identifier as well as the indexer.I used autoincrement property but when we delete specific row then the below rows are not in order like
if we have
1
2---delete 2nd row
3
then it will be
1
3
but i want the o/p as
1
2----3rd row is now 2nd row
Is there any way like 'Default value or Binding=Row_Number()' something??
The user control has public properties named accordingly and the page has protected properties accordingly which I've verified have the desired values.
For some reason the values are always empty strings or 0s in the usercontrol, no matter what the page property is.
I have a dropdown list which I bind through a datasource. How can I inject a default value to it? My db doesn't have a default value and changes are not permitted!
Is their any way I can bind each column of the grid seperatly with each property? It is possible to do that in web form, but i am not sure about MVC grids.
Below is a line I have in my ItemTemplate of a FormView. The value in the table is null rather than true/false. Is there any way I can set the default for this to be false if it is null? Or can I do this in my stored procedure in the Select statement to return false if null?
I've created a table with a userId column of type uniqueidentifier, and have set that column as the primary key. In the column properties, under the Default Value or Binding, I've put (newid()). I thought that this would create a new uniqueidentifier if no value is specified in the insert statement.
However, when I try to add a new row in the table data view and leave the userId blank, it does not let me add the row. It gives me an error saying that the value cannot be NULL (since it is a primary key), however I had deliberately left it NULL so that it would add a new value by calling newid(). Have I made a false assumption?
Public Class State Public Property StateId As Integer Public Property Name As Dictionary(Of Integer, String) End Class
Name(x) contains the state name in different languages. I get a collection of State from the method StateManager.GetAllStates() and I want to bind this collection to a DropDownList. The problem is that I can't find how to set the DataTextField property to let's say stateList.Name(1) which is the english name of my state.
Dim stateList As StateCollection = StateManager.GetAllStates() Me.DataSource = stateList Me.DataValueField = "StateId" Me.DataTextField = "Name(1).Value" <-- Problem here Me.DataBind()
I have some (probably very basic) questions about developing custom controls. I am wanting to derive a set of button controls, and the first one I have started on is a "DeleteButton", that has a additional property (DeleteConfirmationText) that is built into the OnClientClick attribute. To get that added, I overrode the Render method as follows:
[Code]....
This all works well. Now, I will add some logic to make sure that there is some text in the DeleteConfirmationText property, but that isn't the intent of my question. What I am also wanting to do is to override some of the default property values, so I added that to the default constructor:
[Code]....
Now, in the designer in VS2008, and I look at the properties for the control, there isn't a default value shown in the "Properties" section, and the Causesvalidation still shows the underlying classes default value of "True". As well, in design mode, where the GridView control that containse my DeleteButton control would be displayed, there is an error box "There was an error rendering the control. 'Are you certain you want to delete this attorney?' cound not be set on property 'DeleteConfirmationText'. Here's the markup where I am defining the deletebutton control:
So here is the problem , Is it possible to get the "SelectedItem.Text" of a binded dropdownlist? because everytime I'm getting null Even though I'm having items in the dropdownlist.
I'm getting the items that I want in the dropdownlist but I can't find out which one is selected.
I'll use Customer and Addresses as an example rather than explain my real objects. Say I have a repeater bound to a collection of Customers and one of the properties of Customer is an array of addresses. How do I bind to the addresses property? I don't even need to display this information I just want to use it in the Repeaters ItemDataBound event. So I tried to bind a hiddenField to the addresses property but all I get for every customer in the hiddenfields value is an empty array of addresses.
Public Class CustomProfile Inherits ProfileBase Public Property AreCool() As Boolean Get Return Me.GetPropertyValue("AreCool") End Get Set(ByVal value As Boolean) Me.SetPropertyValue("AreCool", value) End Set End Property End Class
I don't know how to set the default value of the property. Its causing errors because without a default value, it uses an empty string, which cannot be converted to a Boolean. I tried adding <DefaultSettingValue("False")> _ but that didn't seem to make a difference.
I'm also using a custom ProfileProvider (CustomProfileProvider).
I saw a post with posibble problems with Model Binding which is mentioned here. [URL]. Whats the best approach to this? Different approaches are below. [Code]....
I have a complex page with several forms on it. The page is divided into sections, and each section has a continue button on it. The page is bound to a pageViewModel, each section addresses a different set of properties on the model. The continue button makes an ajax call to the controller, and the model binder binds it appropriately to the appropriate sections of the model. The section is refreshed appropriately. Finally, I would like to have a save button at the bottom of the page that takes all the forms, and binds all of the forms to the model. The model, at this point has all of the properties filled out, and can be processed accordingly. Can I accomplish this by some ASP MVC magic?
I am new to ASP.NET MVC and using ASP.NET MVC 2 with XVal. I am not using DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider and instead using NHibernateValidatorNHibernateValidator attributes. I would like to know that, when failing to provide a value for a non nullable type, how can i override the vanilla messages. There are actually two scenarios for non nullable type with model binding failure
1) when the data the user entered isn't compatible with the data type (for example, typing in "abc" for an integer field). The default message for this is: "The value [AttemptedValue] is not valid for [Property]."
2) when the user did not enter any data for a field which is not nullable (for example, an integer field). The default message for this is: "A value is required."
I know that the [Required] validator from DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider is treated specially during model binding failures on non-nullable types, so that you're not stuck with the vanilla message 'A value is required.'.
Also The DefaultModelBinder uses [Required] attribute for the second scenario only.Since I am not using DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider, I can not use [Required].Bearing in mind that I am already doing all the attribute validation and other business rules validation in my domain layer using XVal , What are my options here?
- Allow the model binding validation errors to occur, and then ignore and remove them from ModelState in my action method and refill it with my custom validation errors?
- Derive a custom model binder from and defaultmodel binder and override the onModeUpdated method ignoring all the validation?
I have an ASCX that inherits from a WebControl that has a 'CustomConfiguration' property of type CollectionConfigurationItem. This configuration gets set elsewhere in the code, so by the time it gets to the ASCX it is set up to how I wish to use the data. At this point I'd like to render out another control using this configuration, like so:
However, breaking into DataModule always results in 'CustomConfiguration' being null, which is the default value for the property. I've tried adding a Bindable attribute to the property but to no avail, and when I set an EventHandler for the DataBinding event on the DataModule it doesn't even get called.
How can I set this custom-class-typed property from the markup or, failing that what's the second-best method of getting this to work?
I've got a SQL Server database with a table in it, which lists the file names of images. It's my intention to assign the ImageUrl of an Image control on the page, from the data in the table. I've placed a SQLDataSource control on the page, and then tried putting a FormView control there, and an Image control within that. But I don't see how I can assign the value to the ImageUrl property via data binding.
I have a combox box inside a dataform which is bound to riacontrol's datadomainsource say "x" and data form is bound to riacontrol's datadomainsource say "y". Now when I am submiting change then I am not able to find the selected value for the combo box for dataform's data property. It is showing 0 to me.
On pressing enter key, I want and image button's click event to get fired. So i have placed the textbox and button inside a panel and given the image button's id in 'DefaultButton' property of the panel. But on pressing enter key, the image button's click event does not get fired. The code is pasted below:
[code]....
Also provide code for search textbox function present in stack overflow website. On entering text in textbox and pressing enter key, the search function should get executed.
I have a DataSet with multiple DataTables and I use an ObjectDataDataSource to bind my DataGrid to it. One of my tables is correctly displayed in the grid. My problem is, that the grid displays the wrong table.
My tables are related to each other - I make use of the "relation" objects in VS Studio 2010. My ObjectDataSource points to a class with a select method. The DataSet contains several DataTables (e.g. "Variables" and "Components").
[Code]....
How can I configure the DataSet to display the table "Variables" by default?
