MVC :: Can't Get Razor List View Headings To Use Model Properties

Mar 30, 2011

When it creates a view using the list scaffold the headings are hard coded. I want to pull the headings from the data model, but no luck. I was assuming LabelFor would be the solution. I must be missing something basic.

MVC :: Razor: Strongly Typed View With Model Containing Collection Properties?

Jan 4, 2011

Note: I'm working with MVC3 RC and Razor views.I've got this model:

[Code]....

I want to have a strongly typed create view for this model, that allows you to insert 1 to many addresses and phone numbers as part of the view. Ideally, the Action is strongly typed as well:

[Code]....

What would this view look like to facilitate creating 1 to many Addresses and PhoneNumbers, as well as having the state re-created correctly if the ModelState fails when posting? I've tried a number of variations including EditorTemplates and can't figure out how to do this.

I have a requirement in my application that, while saving the application, need to get all the value from drop down list and pass it to the view model. But application should not allow the user to select more than one item from drop down list manually, ie, only one value at a time. My view model is like ...

public class ListManagement
{
public IEnumerable<selectListItem> InactiveProduct { get; set; }
public string[] InactiveProductSelected { get; set; }
public IEnumerable<selectListItem> ActiveProduct { get; set; }
}

.NET Model-View-Presenter And List Versus Details?

Jan 26, 2010

In Model-View-Presenter what is the correct pattern to do a page that:
a) contains a grid for browsing a list of items

b) an alternate mode for editing single items .maybe you are toggling between two asp:panels.

Do you just make the presenter smart enough to do two types of presentations?
Make 2 presenters?

I'm new to this pattern and want to do it correctly. I understand how I would do this functionality on two pages. Just not sure what is the accepted practice when the browse and detail exist on the same page.

Model View Presenter - How To Show Selected Item In A Drop Down List

Jul 23, 2010

I'm using Model-View-Presenter framework. When Loading a page, I'm having trouble setting the selected item that came from the Database.

In view, I know I need:

protected void ddlStatus_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
presenter.DdlStatusSelectedIndexChanged();
// what should this pass?
}
Then in Presenter:
public void DdlStatusSelectedIndexChanged()
{
view.DdlStatus = ???
// Should I pass the SelectedIndex?
}

I also think that part of my problem is that DdlStatus I have as a List.

Interface:

List<StatusDTO> DdlStatus { set; get; }

The best I found is here (but needs formatted!) ---> [URL]

MVC 3 Razor DropDownListFor And Model Property From EFCodeFirst?

Feb 20, 2011

I am trying to populate a drop down list from my controller for a create action. I can display the dropdown as I want but when I cannot get the value to be stored in the database. My models:

[Code]....

Controller: [Code]....

View: [Code]....

This above snippet will show me the message "The value '50117dae-a7d7-4371-926f-7b1f7aaec133' is invalid."

if I change the line to @Html.DropDownListFor(ct => ct.CollectionType.CollectionTypeId, new SelectList(ViewBag.CollectionTypes as System.Collections.IEnumerable, "CollectionTypeId", "Title"))
@Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.CollectionType)

the page will not do anything - I believe this could be because the controller is trying to add a new CollectionType.

How To Hide Specific Elements On A Razor View Based On Security Without Logic In View

Apr 4, 2011

I have looked all over for elegant solutions to this not so age-old question. How can I lock down form elements within an ASP.Net MVC View, without adding if...then logic all over the place? Ideally the BaseController, either from OnAuthorization, or OnResultExecultion, would check the rendering form elements and hide/not render them based on role and scope. Another approach I have considered is writing some sort of custom attributes, so as to stay consistent with how how we lock down ActionResults with [Authorize]. Is this even possible without passing a list of hidden objects to the view and putting if's all over? Other background info: We will have a database that will tell us at execution time (based on user role/scope) what elements will be hidden. We are using MVC3 with Razor Viewengine. We're utilizing a BaseController where any of the Controller methods can be overridden.

Should Data Annotations Be On The Model Or The View Model

Dec 15, 2010

I've been used to decorating data model classes with data annotation attributes, but the purist in me baulks slightly at including purely presentational attributes such as display format here. I am, however, quite happy to keep validation centric attributes here. One good reason I have to continue keeping all annotations etc. in the data model is that my view model aggregates data model classes, e.g.

my ViewModelBase.DetailItem<TEntity> property in the view model is just a reference to an entity class in my data model. If I wanted to move presentational annotations to the view model, I would have to quite radically revise my design to one where I duplicate data model properties in my view model and use an object mapping tool to populate view model objects based on data model objects.

MVC :: View Model To Convert To Domain Model?

May 4, 2010

Say I got a domain model as follows: (and my repository expect an instance of this object)

[Code]....

And a view model (which my views are based on)

[Code]....

At the moment I got it like this and have my controller action manually create a new Person object from the PersonModel object before passing it on to the repository, which does not feel right.

So I tried to have PersonModel inherit from Person and pass that to the repository (also tried casting the PersonModel to a Person object first), but that don't work out.

What's the right way to have PersonModel automatically cast to Person? I want to keep this logic as my current structure allow me to keep things really loosely coupled, with the repository layer not having a clue how it's being used.

Mvc Database Model Dynamic Properties?

Sep 13, 2010

Im just wondering how you go about creating dynamic properties on entities that generated from a database generated model.For example I have a UserInformation table. In that table it has basic information on the user (well derr) like user name, address details etc etc. I want to add a readonly property that concatenates the user's Name, Address details and Phone Number into one string that I can output to a view. Any ideas on how i would go about creating this dynamic property. This is just a simple example, i am wanting to do some more complex calculating and concatenating.

MVC :: Model Binder To Collection Properties?

Jul 14, 2010

I need to bind a bunch of properties over my model entities. All of them uses the List<T> class. I already managed to write a model binder that can treat individualy types derived from that class, but i can't set the value of this property on the model. every time i check the model afer the bind process i see a list with 0 itens.

Here's how it runs.

After i post the values the model binder catchs up the types for bindingAt the custom model binder i check if this property is a List<T> typeIf it is then i perform the bind like it have to be, if not i let the default binder do the job.Finally i return the object binded. What happens next is the issue i've mentioned "i see a list with 0 itens" on the Model property.

Here is the code of Custom Model Binder:

I'm reading a bit of Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework and following a few tutorials written in the book. In the very first tutorial, creating a MVC site for dinner (PartyInvites), I encoutered this problem. While I try to reference some properties from Model class, the compilation error occured. Eg. the following code failed.

and the error message

Compiler Error Message:

I imported the Model folder into the controller too. I dunno what I'm missing here. Sorry, if it sounds a bit umm hard to understand cuz I just started picking up MVC this morning. Looking for any input.

Creating An External Link In MVC 2 From Model Properties?

I'm trying to build a link to an external website using some properties of my model class in my view page, e.g. I want it to render as something like -[URL]where post-id would be pulled from the model (I'm using a strongly typed view model here - I can't use ViewData as there's a list of items being pulled back all of which need seperate links).I tried doing < a href="<% model.PermaLink(); %>">, where PermaLink is just some string, however the value doesn't get picked up.If I try < a href="<%= model.PermaLink %>">, I get an error - CS1502: The best overloaded method match for 'System.IO.TextWriter.Write(char)' has some invalid argumentsIs there any way to do this? I tried adding the runat="server" attribute, however this just linked to my local site and controller/model actions.

I would then also like to set Model values programmatically on .aspx page, like:

<%= Html.TextBoxFor(n => n.someValue) %>
