Mar 2, 2011I have a form where users enter their preferred contact method. It has:
- a radio button where a user selects whether they'd like to be contact by phone or email or either
- a textbox for the user's email address
- a textbox for the user's phone number
I have validation via a custom attribute that verifies that if the user selected phone they entered a phone number, if they selected email they entered an email, etc... but it's at a class level on my ViewModel. As such the validation doesn't mark the expected field as invalid.
Is there a way that my IsValid override (or some other method) can mark the child property's value as invalid so I get highlighting?

C# - Page.IsValid Cannot Be Called Before Validation Has Taken Place?
Mar 18, 2011I am using a wizard control in which I have a next button that has causes validation = true. I also have a checkbox that when changed, in the event handler, I set causes validation = false for the next button. When that button is clicked - I get the following:
Page.IsValid cannot be called before validation has taken place. It should be queried in the event handler for a control that has CausesValidation.
Here is the code:

IValidatableObject.Validate Only Called If Property Validation Passes?
Jan 22, 2011In my model, it seems that Validate() is only called AFTER both properties pass validation.

When a user enters a single line of text in the Nicknames text area but leaves the Name text box empty, only the Required error message for the Name property is displayed. The error message that should be displayed from the Validate() function never shows up.
Only after entering a name in the Name text box and some text in the Nicknames text is the Validate() function called.
Is this how it's supposed to work? It seems odd that a user is shown an error message on a subsequent page when the error is being caused on the current page.

Apr 9, 2010I have an CustomViewModel that is composed of three layers of objects.
The first one is to store and populate lists to be used in dropdowns.
The second one is to store additional propperties that I want.
And the third one is the model itself.
I create the view using View(new Layer(model))
And at the post i have ActionResult .... (Container container)
I made this architecture because i was having a lot of problems with model binder and enums...
So when i post to the form and the ModelBinder checks the validation attributes, the IsValid operation at the attribute X applied to the model class has its parameter value as null.
This behavior doesn't happen if I Just use the simple model to create and post the view.
What I have to do to get this work ?
I made a few changes to the AccountController to use it as sample here, here is the code:

Just change the register page to inherits from RegisterModelLayer.
When I post, the value parameter at the IsValid function at the PropertiesMustMatchAttribute class is null;
As a consequence i can't validate and get an null exception maybe.

I've been used some code I found on dotnetjunkies.com but the client-side validation didn't work. I've been attempting to modify it to get the client-side javascript validation to work with no luck. In the page_load event I'm calling Page.Validate(), and if Page.IsValid is not true I'm then polling the controls to figure out which ones are not valid, and then determining what actions to take.It would be much easier if each control would raise an event as validation fails, allowing me to take action for that particular control. Jquery Validation Not Working Throwing Error $.validation Is Undefinedj?
Nov 30, 2010jQuery validation is working fine on my machine, when i pushed it to test server it won't it's throwing some errors which is kind of surprising.These are the errors I am getting: $.validator is null or not an object...I've never gotten this error before and it throwing an error when I declared a variable like var isValid.I don't know what to do. I am doing the custom validation methods not in the document.ready(). Does this cause this error? I wonder because all jquery validations are passing and hitting the server side validations.

It is easy enough to add a required field validator to this page like this.
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="valMyTextBox" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtMyTextBox" ErrorMessage="My Text Box is required."></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
But I need to modify the HTML slightly if this text box fails validation. I need to add a CSS class to the DIV. So if the user leaves this field blank I need the HTML to look like this:
<div class="myClass error">
<asp:TextBox ID="txtMyTextBox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
</div>
Is this possible? I can't figure out if there is a way to write code behind that only fires if this particular validator control fails validation or something. I know I can write code that runs when the entire page is not valid. But I just want this code to run when this validator returns invalid. Hope this makes sense.
