MVC :: Deploying Application To IIS7 - HTTP Error 404.3
Mar 15, 2010
I have published my site using Visual Stuido's 2008 publish feature. I have then copied these files to a windows 2008 web server with IIS7 installed, it also has .net 3.5 sp1 and MVC installed In IIS I added the site using the 'Add a new site' right click option and then pointed this at the directory my site files are located in, I used the default application pool and it is set to integrated. Then when I attempt to browse I got the error message The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory. So I added Default.aspx to the default document list and I then get the following error message
HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. Has anyone got any ideas on what I do next ? I have read lots of articles on this online but most are confusing and dont explain the solution in simple terms Surely it should be pretty straightforard to just deploy an MVC website to IIS7
I've got an ASP MVC (1.0) application. It works fine locally via visual studio and on our dev server which runs IIS6. But when I try to deploy to the Test server (running IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2) I get only :"Could not load file or assembly '<ApplicationName>' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied" (where <ApplicationName> is the name of my application). This is followed by a "FileLoadException", a "ConfigurationErrorsException" and two "HttpException" (all with the same message as above)I deployed via publishing to an empty directory, whose contents were then zipped and transferred to the site directory on the test server. If I copy the directories contents to my IIS installation it works fine. I've checked that networkservices has permission to access the site directories and the temporary directories, which were the solutions I found via google,
so I have a fully functioning DynamicData website, and all works fine when debugging in VS2010But when I moved the site to a webserver (server 2008, IIS7) the default paeg comes up, but any links or pages after that are all sending 404 errors http://{IP address}/{table}/{action}.aspxdoes not work when on the server, but works fine in VS.What configuration am i missing from IIS7 to make this url work?
As mentioned in subject line I'm not able to configure role based website in IIS7. Please find details below.
Environment Details:-
.Net Framework: 3.5
Server: Windows 2008
Webserver: IIS7
Database: SQL Server 2008
Authentication Type: Form Based
Roles/Membership Provider: User defnied.
Problem:-
After setuped my website in iis7 while trying to Login in web page even I entered correct password it says Incorrect password in Login control. After long googling I suspecty that we need to add "Provider to trusted provider" to Authorized provider. I have gone http://www.iis.net/ConfigReference/system.webServer/management/trustedProviders/add but didn't works for me. Can you anyone please help me in this.
I was hosting published site in IIS 7 on Windows 7 installed machine.I had done setting for .NET framework version, Security Options but got Error as shown below

I am trying to learn how to deploy a web application with .msi installer. I followed the tutorial at this site http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/06/15/tip-trick-creating-packaged-asp-net-setup-programs-with-vs-2005.aspx and created a .msi file. However, after I installed the application and tried to open the default.aspx file, I got this error:A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://localhost/TestMsi/default.aspx'.
I am getting the error -- Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. I have created an entity model and linked service which works fine when testing from within VStudio 2010 but when I publish and browse to svc I get an HTTP 500 error. Thought this might be linked to db credentials (anonymouss access) so set this to fixed sa login as test , no success. Also have set all IIS app pool to use v4.0 of .net. Using IIS7 running under Windows 7, svc entityaccessrule set to "*".
I've written a small MVC application and am having trouble deploying it to localhost. I use the publish feature when I browse http://localhost this is what I get: HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this dir A sample aspx page is rendered correctly.
I've tried the aspnet_regiis -r I've made sure ASP.NET is installed in Windows Features. The web platform installer tells me MVC 2.0 is installed. I did install VS2010 first and then IIS so I suspect that maybe causing problems but in the past aspnet_regiis -r has fixed that.
I developed an application using VS2010 and now when i try to deploy it on windows XP maching running IIS 5.1 i get the database version error which says:
The database '<database file path>' cannot be opened because it is version 655. This server supports version 612 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.
<database file path> . Create is aborted.
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file <database file path> failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
i am trying to deploy the asp.net web application on windows 7 professional
i was getting error at <authentication mode="Windows"/>
if i commented the windows authentaction i get below error

I have created "DotNetNuke SQL Database Application" from the WebMatrix Gallery. Now I want to deploy it on the remote server using Web Deploy method. Without selecting SQL database, application is deployed successfully but when I select SQL database it gives following error: Publish : Error - Make sure the database connection string for the server is correct and that you have appropriate permission to access the database. (Web Deploy provider is dbFullSql).
Okay, I am trying to deploy a .Net framework 4 website on IIS7 server. I have already changed the application-pool's target framework to .Net 4, but the app is still showing me the error:
"The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration"
I am guessing that has something to do with the new feature of .Net4 that lets me have a compact Web config file. I think for some reason IIS7 is not happy with this. What can I do to deploy this app successfully or do I have to scale back to v3.5? I am sure there is a solution out there.
I am using XAMPP to publish my a .net application. The server is working fine. I created a sample login.aspx file, and it works fine. I deleted the sample login file, and I build and copy all the files to the XAMPP directory. When I tried to acces the page, it gave an error message "Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server. If you think this is a server error, contact the
I have a custom membership provider and a custom role provider in a .NET assembly dll called Qws.Web. The full namespace path to the classes are Qws.Web.Providers.QwsMembershipProvider and Qws.Web.Providers.QwsRoleProvider They both inherit MembershipProvider and RoleProvider respectively When I include the assembly using a project reference in VS2010 it all works fine. The minute I publish the website and project to the staging server (using IIS7) i get the following error: Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed. You can see the site at [URL] I've tried all of the usual stuff and been trawling the internet for the last two days.
1. The Qws.Web.dll file IS in the bin folder 2. My Web.Config file is below:
[Code]....
3. The providers are not in the GAC and not in the machine.config file as I only want them available for this site.
I'm working on an ASP.NET application that accesses Team Foundation Server 2010 and creates new work items. The application is running in the DefaultAppPool, using NetworkService as the identity. I'm getting the error below:
[UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'Cachev10' is denied.]
[code]....
We were able to work around the issue by turning the Cache folder into a network share and giving NetworkService full access to the share. I'd prefer not to have to do this, but it seems to be working correctly now.
First of all, quickly what exactly I want to achieve: translate particular exception into the HTTP 404 so the ASP.NET can handle it further. I am handling exceptions in the ASP.NET (MVC2) this way:
protected void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e) { var err = Server.GetLastError(); if (err == null) return; err = err.GetBaseException(); var noObject = err as ObjectNotFoundException; if (noObject != null) HandleObjectNotFound(); var handled = noObject != null; if (!handled) Logger.Fatal("Unhandled exception has occured in application.", err); } private void HandleObjectNotFound() { Server.ClearError(); Response.Clear(); // new HttpExcepton(404, "Not Found"); // Throw or not to throw? Response.StatusCode = 404; Response.StatusDescription = "Not Found"; Response.StatusDescription = "Not Found"; Response.Write("The whole HTML body explaining whata 404 is??"); }
The problem is that I cannot configure default customErrors to work with it. When it is on then it never redirects to the page specified in customErrors: <error statusCode="404" redirect="404.html"/>. I also tried to raise new HttpExcepton(404, "Not Found") from the handler but then the response code is 200 which I don't understand why. So the questions are:
1-What is the proper way of translating AnException into HTTP 404 response? 2- How does customErrors section work when handling exceptions in Application_Error? 3- Why throwing HttpException(404) renders (blank) page with success (200) status?
I have a web application and I'm using asp.net routing. When I publish it with the Only files needed to run this application selected it gives me an error when I'm loading any of the page "HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found."
I have created a ASP.NET MVC 2 application in VS2010. It runs in integrated development server fine. But when i deploy that in IIS it gives me "The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory." error. Anybody know what went wrong?? There is no default.aspx page when creating a MVC2 project in VS2010. is that the problem? I can assure the routes are configured correctly in global.aspx.
Is it at all possible to use IIS7's rewrite capability in web.config to strip a particular HTTP header from a client request? We have an application that makes an HTTP POST to our website, and apparently the request contains the HTTP Expect header. Previously this was not a problem, but we've switched hosts and now the site is returning HTTP error 417 Expectation failed. So the real solution is to fix the software so it doesn't send the Expect header, but that can't happen soon enough for the folks in charge, who'd like to come up with an immediate web-based fix.I've used ISAPI_Rewrite before and I've read that it can strip a header, and the new host claimed they had ISAPI installed... but that seems to have been a lie, as I cannot get it to work, and support's only response on the subject is "use IIS7 Rewrite instead."
For an ASP.NET 4.0 / IIS7 web app, I would like to support compressed HTTP requests. Basically, I would like to support clients that would add Content-Encoding: gzip in the request headers, and compress the body accordingly.
We are planning to move our website to https, which currently running on only http only. Web site is running on IIS7 in Windows 2008 server. Do I need to update/modify any configuration settings in the website to make it work on HTTPS? Is it fine just installing certifictes?
First, a little background. I have written a custom HTTP compression module for ASP.NET. My development machine has Windows 7 Ultimate, which comes with IIS7. My production environment uses IIS6.
The problem I'm having is, Resource Expert Droid (redbot.org) tells me that I need to add a header to my response to properly support compression: "Vary: Accept-Encoding"
On IIS7 in integrated mode, it works properly. However, in classic mode, which is how my application ultimately runs, I cannot get my code to output this header using any of Response.AppendHeader(), Response.Cache.SetVaryByCustom(), or Response.Cache.VaryByHeaders.
I am attempting to set the content-type of an asp.net .ashx file to text/plain.
When I run this through the ASP.NET Development Server, the content-type is properly set. When I serve it through IIS7, however, the content-type (and any other header values I set) don't come through (it came through as text/html).
The only value set in the HTTP Response Headers section of IIS Manager is the X-Powered-By attribute. I tried setting the content-type here, but that didn't work. But if I removed the X-Powered-By attribute, it was removed from the header.
