I have published my site using Visual Stuido's 2008 publish feature. I have then copied these files to a windows 2008 web server with IIS7 installed, it also has .net 3.5 sp1 and MVC installed In IIS I added the site using the 'Add a new site' right click option and then pointed this at the directory my site files are located in, I used the default application pool and it is set to integrated. Then when I attempt to browse I got the error message The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory. So I added Default.aspx to the default document list and I then get the following error message
HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. Has anyone got any ideas on what I do next ? I have read lots of articles on this online but most are confusing and dont explain the solution in simple terms Surely it should be pretty straightforard to just deploy an MVC website to IIS7

I have created an entity model and linked service which works fine when testing from within VStudio 2010 but when I publish and browse to svc I get an HTTP 500 error. Thought this might be linked to db credentials (anonymouss access) so set this to fixed sa login as test , no success. Also have set all IIS app pool to use v4.0 of .net. Using IIS7 running under Windows 7, svc entityaccessrule set to "*".

I've written a small MVC application and am having trouble deploying it to localhost. I use the publish feature when I browse http://localhost this is what I get: HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this dir A sample aspx page is rendered correctly.
I've tried the aspnet_regiis -r I've made sure ASP.NET is installed in Windows Features. The web platform installer tells me MVC 2.0 is installed. I did install VS2010 first and then IIS so I suspect that maybe causing problems but in the past aspnet_regiis -r has fixed that.

I have installed Windows 7 Professional and Visual Studio 2010 on a machine I was using VS2005 on with Windows XP. I am unable to publish to c:inetpubwwwroot. The files cannot be deleted in wwwroot or edited. I turned off read-only and am still unable to edit anything in the root even when opening something in notepad. When publishing a site every file in the directory throws the following in VS.
"Error deleting file 'what_is_a_puppymill.aspx'. Unable to delete default.aspx'. This function is not supported on this system."

using vb.net/asp.net 2005
when a user enters a bad email I am doing a check on this and throwing an exception message as follows, this works fine on the test site but for some reason the same code on the live site gives a "internal server error" (http code 500). The code below:
[Code]....
not certain why this is happening, I assume that it's some server or config difference between the test and live sites. has anyone seen this before? For a quick fix i'm registering javascript alert and showing the same text so it works but I would like to figure out why the code above is not working.

I have been creating a few MVC web sites with SQL Server 2008 and hosting them in IIS7.
However, at the moment I need to host one of the web sites with IIS6.
Will I have any problem?
The client requested to use their current hosting service which is IIS6 so I have no idea if some problem will come up.

Is it at all possible to use IIS7's rewrite capability in web.config to strip a particular HTTP header from a client request?We have an application that makes an HTTP POST to our website, and apparently the request contains the HTTP Expect header. Previously this was not a problem, but we've switched hosts and now the site is returning HTTP error 417 Expectation failed. So the real solution is to fix the software so it doesn't send the Expect header, but that can't happen soon enough for the folks in charge, who'd like to come up with an immediate web-based fix.I've used ISAPI_Rewrite before and I've read that it can strip a header, and the new host claimed they had ISAPI installed... but that seems to have been a lie, as I cannot get it to work, and support's only response on the subject is "use IIS7 Rewrite instead."

For an ASP.NET 4.0 / IIS7 web app, I would like to support compressed HTTP requests. Basically, I would like to support clients that would add Content-Encoding: gzip in the request headers, and compress the body accordingly.
Does anyone known how I achieve such a behavior?

First, a little background. I have written a custom HTTP compression module for ASP.NET. My development machine has Windows 7 Ultimate, which comes with IIS7. My production environment uses IIS6.
The problem I'm having is, Resource Expert Droid (redbot.org) tells me that I need to add a header to my response to properly support compression: "Vary: Accept-Encoding"
On IIS7 in integrated mode, it works properly. However, in classic mode, which is how my application ultimately runs, I cannot get my code to output this header using any of Response.AppendHeader(), Response.Cache.SetVaryByCustom(), or Response.Cache.VaryByHeaders.

I am attempting to set the content-type of an asp.net .ashx file to text/plain.
When I run this through the ASP.NET Development Server, the content-type is properly set. When I serve it through IIS7, however, the content-type (and any other header values I set) don't come through (it came through as text/html).
The only value set in the HTTP Response Headers section of IIS Manager is the X-Powered-By attribute. I tried setting the content-type here, but that didn't work. But if I removed the X-Powered-By attribute, it was removed from the header.
[code]....

I have web services built with ASP.NET and ASP.NET clients consuming them. When consuming the webservices, how would I to force the clients to use https?
I don't want to force the whole site to use https by turning on require SSL in IIS.
Can I use the IIS7 URL rewrite module to re-route http requests to https?

I have the following setting in my web.config to redirect to a default page:
<defaultDocument>
<files>
<clear/>
<add value="default.aspx"/>
</files>
</defaultDocument>
For example when a user enters www.homeforhire.com they should be redirected to default.aspx (for operational reasons the user is then redirected to
www.homeforhire.com/home.aspx).
Instead an error is caught in the Rewrite module (which should not be activated). I am using an http module to perform URL rewriting.
It appears as if the default document setup is not working correctly, and the requested page ~/ is being sent to the Rewrite module, causing an error (which is then caught by my error handler and the user is redirected to the home page).
Entering www.homeforhire.com/default.aspx works correctly.
Can anyone tell me why the default document settings in the web.config do not appear to be working?

What is the best dedicated hosting site for an asp.net 2.0 site? The key consideration for me are:
(i) Cost
(ii) Processor
(iii) Harddisk
(iv) Traffic i.e. Bandwidth
(v) Technical support
I have used Lunarpages and Godaddy before but I am considering 1&1 but am not sure what their technical support is like.

Okay I've read the other StackOverflow postings, forum posts on MSDN, everywhere. I CANNOT get this to work for the life of me.
Here is what I have setup.
In IIS7.0
- Default Site in ASP.NET v4.0 App Pool
- C:Inetpubwwwroot as the physical path
I published my MVC2 site in VS2010 to the Default Site path, it succeeded.
Here are the settings for that:
- Same App Pool
- C:InetpubwwwrootPerfectSchedule as the physical path
- Default Document is Views/Home.mvc
I open the URL in my IE browser
- http://localhost/ --> just gives me the Apache "It works!" page
- http://localhost/PerfectSchedule --> The WebPage cannot be found
- http://perfectschedule/ --> Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

I am planning to build a news publication website that should be automatically scalable when traffic is increasing. I have good experience in developing web applications using ASP.NET and PHP. To move forward on selection of specific technology here are some questions for which I need some clarifications.
My primary intention is to reduce the hosting charges. If we choose LAMP this will cost lower than ASP.NET on Windows. As my intention is to host web application on cloud service, will this make any difference? Means, for dedicated servers we need to pay extra cost for Windows O/S if you compare it with Linux. If we go for cloud servers, will they charge anything for O/S for each instance or will they just charge on computation hours irrespective of Operating System?
Do we have complete control (like dedicated server) on cloud instance to install any other softwares?
Do we need to host web server and and database server on multiple instances when traffic is increasing or will a big size instance can handle huge traffic?

We have the requirement to set up the Web site and FTP site on IIS7. We have registered a domain for hosting the application
[URL] If I need to set up the Web site and FTP site on same Web server with the same Domain name, how can I do that. My DNS has mapping for [URL]. Do I need to have the DNS record for FTP in the DNS server. This depends on if your customer wants people to FTP to [URL] or [URL]or [URL]. If they want [URL] then you'll need another entry in DNS. You just need to add a new alias record in DNS that resolves the same IP as www to ftp. Do I need to take any extra steps to configure same Domain name in IIS7 for Web site and FTP site. I would assume that as long as IIS is set to listen to all IP addresses you should be good to go. Can I configure the web site in IIS 7 as [URL] You want to force people who browse to the default name of [URL] to be redirected to [URL]? Setup two websites on IIS - one for [URL]and one for [URL] where the real content lives. On the [URL] use IIS7's redirect feature to force all requests to [URL] See: [URL]
