My doubt is i have two tables with Id as (Primary key) in one table and in the next table i have a Category Id field as Foreign key relationship with the 1st tabl Id field...
I have created a create view for the 1st table. My question is i have created a partial view for the 2nd table, but i need to pass the Id value to the second tables category Id field...So is there any way to do it by using Viewdata?
I'm doing kind of wizard application that captures information on Contacts. The process of collecting information involves 4 pages. On one of the pages, the user is invited to upload is picture. The last page is called "preview before saving" where the user has 2 choices: (i) Go back to previous pages to make corrections or (ii) click save button to save data to DB. To be able to keep the same data all along those steps, I'm using tricks, such as serialization/deserialization, and TempData[]. On the preview page, I'd like to display all the information entered by the user, including the picture he uploaded.
Here's the basic structure of the image tag.
[Code]....
the src attribute takes values such as, src="../../Content/myPicture.gif or src = "<"%=Url.Action("Action", "Controller", "RouteValue")%>"/>
In my case, None of the above is applicable because the data needed to display the picture are in the model. My object model has 2 properties called ImageData and ImageMimeType.
My question: How to display the image on an ASP.NET MVC page by using data from the ViewData.model [as opposed to getting data from remote location using for instance Url.Action()]
I have an several controllers where I want every ActionResult to return the same viewdata. In this case, I know I will always need basic product and employee information.
Right now I've been doing something like this:
[code]....
This is just pseudo-code so forgive any obvious errors, is there a better way to be doing this? I thought of having my controller inherit a class that pretty much does the same thing you see here, but I didn't see any great advantages to that. It feels like what I'm doing is wrong and unmaintable, what's the best way to go about this?
I am new to MVC3 razor and facing one issue as described below. I have one strongly typed view to display list of items and user can edit the view. When user click on a print button a popup should open to print the list . So I have to pass the current view to the popup page.
We can pass a single value as like to popup screen as "window.open('@Url.Action("ViewName", "ContollerName",new {id="ParameterValue"})'.
Is it possible to pass the current view to to popup window as a parameter like new {id="Parameter"}) ?
I like ASP.NET MVC, because I like to have direct access to my web site's structure. However there's 1 thing that I don't like.
In Ruby on Rails to send data from Controller to View is really easy:
# Get a user in controller
@user = User.first(:id => 1)
# Display him in a view
<%= @user.id %>
In ASP.NET MVC it's much harder
// Controller User user = new User(1); ViewData["user"] = user; // View <% User user = (MyNamespace.User)ViewData["user"]; %> <%= user.Id %>
With this ViewData thing all benefits of static languages go away, and we waste time boxing/unboxing objects.
P.S. Don't tell me to use Model object, because this is also true for other variables like integer.
And another question:
I'm trying to implement a comfrtable access to data. Since I can't use LINQ to SQL as I use Postrgresql, I have to do it on my own. I'm tired of direct SQL queries, so I'm trying to implement something like this:
I've encountered a problem when I put a treeview in a page which is using master page. The treeview style doesn't apply. For example, I set the nodes with different colors in different levels. But the treeview nodes are still displayed in the default color(bule).
The treeview code is :
[Code]....
If I use these code in a page which doesn't use a master page. The nodes are shown in colors.
I have 2 points for today I. I have a controller in which i have a public static method for getting the details for a checkbox like
[code]....
is it ok for me to use this same function like this one in the view, so that I do not need to use the viewdata object,
<%: Html.DropDownList("country", new SelectList(UserController.GetCountryLists(), "value", "countryname", "0"))%>
Also i have another query, when i use the same id & name for the radiobuttons, validation at the client side is working fine.If I use the same condition for a group of checkboxes, i get do not get the checkboxes highlighted during client validation and only during server validation, i get the error message, but the controls [checkboxes] do not have a red border indicating the error.I have used my own html helper to generate the checkboxlist as per [URL].
Is it possible to change Properties of ViewData.ModelMetadata in Controller?. For example, can I do the following to change the display information of the LogOnModel:
[Code]....
When I do that there is no errors but DisplayName is not change. I'm trying to localize strings to different languages and also to make some attributes of the model different depending on users roles.
I have two different controllers, say controllerA and controllerB, Now from within controllerA I have to redirect with some parameters to controllerB and inside controllerA i wrote RedirectToAction("ControllerBAction", new { keywords = text }); How do I define the routes in global.asax.cs?
We have to develop an application which has a Vertical left pane menu control which displays all the web pages (A,B,C say). Now if user is in page A and filled some data and clicks on menu control to go to page B, all the data in page A needs to be saved. Also if all the required field in page A are not filled and user navigated to page B, there will be one ! sign after the menu so that user can understand that there some some more fields need to be filled up.
We are planning to place the menu control in the Mater page. Please give me some direction to do this. My question is:
1. If user change menu (In Master Page), how should we save data?
2. How should we display the ! in the menu control?
Has anyone had any luck getting MVC 3 working on IIS 6?I've added the .aspx extension to the controller in my global.asax file. I also have Default.aspx in the root of the project with the following code-behind:
[Code]....
This is what my global.asax looks like:
[Code]....
.NET 4.0 has been installed on the server, and is selected for the project. All of this, and I still get HTTP Error 404 -
When I add a new webform in my project, It doesn't show me the checkbox to select master page, so I have to select the master page, Right click and select Add Contect Page.
I have a nested master page with radio button controls and one or two dropdowns (depending on the radio button chosen). The dropdown(s) contains either carriers or our customers. If the dropdown type is customer, we display another dropdown to determine what type of customer (current, former, or test). Once a carrier or customer is chosen, an action is called to "set" the customer information in the session. This all works great. The problem is trying to persist the dropdown type, customer type, and customer or carrier chosen over each action/view. Once a customer or carrier is set, the user can chose different menu options (also on the master page) to perform different tasks against the customer or carrier data. I am still fairly new to asp.net mvc and to jquery and ajax. I have racked my brain and tried several different scenarios to get this to work. I tried a master view model which got inherited by the other view models. I couldn't get that to work. Now I am trying a base controller and just setting things in viewdata, but I still can't get it to work once I move to next controller/action/view. Can someone please let me know the best practice for doing this? And or tell me where I'm going wrong? I am at a pretty critical point in this project and am running out of time. The code follows:
My Original Issue here:Help! I've got repository access in my MVC master page! Refactor time! What originated as a re factoring job to improve performance has revealed new issues. If I should keep this in my original question - feel free to delete this one, and rename the old one to something more relevant. I'm using an ActionFilter applied to a base controller to load some user-customized settings. My issue is that I save these settings in the filterContext.Controller.ViewData object but its coming through as null on my master page. Here is the relevant code:
Action Filter [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Class, AllowMultiple = false)] public class StoreSettingsActionFilter : ActionFilterAttribute
UML and Patterns: An Introduction to Object-Oriented Analysis and Design and Iterative Development, that follows the UP(Unified Process). It uses a Grasp Controller pattern to interact with domain classes by some methods like NewSale(), AddNewItemToSale() and CloseSale. In windows form, I can instantiate a object of this class in the UI and then use its methods to perform the actions. This works well in Client apps, but when I use asp.net mvc, I cannot find a way to instantiate an object (one for each user) that was always visible for a Controller (MVC). I cannot insert as an attribute inside Controller because it always create a new one.
I know there is a couple answered questions on here regarding "request scoped" globals, but I want to nit-pick on something specifically and maybe squeeze some extra enlightenment out of one or two of you.I have an ASP.NET C# Website and a static Dictionary of objects (loaded from DB once on Application start). Each page request will need to do a lookup in the Dictionary (based on a key derived from the request url/etc) and get the appropriate object. The issue is I'm trying to maximize efficiency by reducing the lookups to the Dictionary per Request. Doing just a single lookup within a Page itself is easy enough and I can pass the object to sub controls, etc too.. but global.asax is separate from the Page and it also needs to use the object (in Application_BeginRequest and Session_Start).
So is doing a Dictionary lookup once in Application_BeginRequest, once (when necessary) in Session_Start and once in the Page negligible speed wise, even if there are many requests coming in every second?I would like it if I could just have a Request scoped global variable that I can easily call upon.. the only one I see available though is HttpContext.Current.Items and that is a Dictionary itself.Am I beingridiculously nit-picky with my concern over efficiency? or will these milliseconds (nanoseconds?) get me in the long run when more and more requests are being made?
PS. I currently only have around 100 objects in the Dictionary although this may increase in the future.
as a php developer ive been told to go the MVC route which ive been trying since yesterday. Im using visual web delveloper 2010 express and im using the MVC template project.Ive basically got a news table in MSSQL Express, in there are these fields ID,(Title,Body,PostedOn,PostedBy) all i wanna do is loop through them to put them on the view.Im after a nudge in the right direction, I want to be able to do a SQL lookup in the controller put that data in a DataTable then run a foreach loop on the table to display this on the view. The problem im getting is I know youre not suppsed to put any HTML in the controller and I cant pass the datatable to the view to do the loop in the view.. so where/how do I do the loop.
I've began working with asp.net mvc very recently and I've ran into a problem.I've got an aspx page which renders a few ascx pages. What I'd like to do is declare a global var at the aspx page so it is visible to all its childs. I tried <% var i = 0; %> but it wasn't visible at the child pages. What could I do?
How do I need get the variable in the master page?
1. after Login.aspx get the information of the user 2. redirect to home.aspx 3. in home.aspx, view the info like Label1.text ="Welcome " + varUser; 4. Label1 is located in the master page 5. this varUser will display in all my pages 6. I don't want to use the full Session["var"] (because of expiration)
*in short I just want to get the var in the master page everytime I load a new page (WITH MULTIPLE UNIQUE USERS)
I have an ASP.NET application where i am tracking my applicaion level erros using golabl.asax On_Error method.I will send an email to my id when there is some error happened in the site(ie :" when the application _error being invoked) Now From my global.asax's Application_OnError event, how can i get the URL of the page where this error was raised ?
