View 3 RepliesI am currently binding a Nullable bit column to a listview control. When you declare a list view item I need to handle the case when the null value is used instead of just true or false.
<asp:Checkbox ID="Chk1" runat="server"
Checked='<%# HandleNullableBool(Eval("IsUsed")) %>' />
Then in the page I add a HandleNullableBool() function inside the ASPX page.
protected static bool HandleNullableBool(object value)
{
return (value == null) ? false : (bool)value;
}
This works fine but I need to use this in several pages so I tried creating a utility class with a static HandleNullableBool. But using it in the asp page does not work. Is there a way to do this in another class instead of the ASPX page?
<asp:Checkbox ID="Chk1" runat="server"
Checked='<%# Util.HandleNullableBool(Eval("IsUsed")) %>' />
I have an application which works as follows:
Users will purchase Items and as soon as it reaches the products min value it will mail and process to all people who purchased in past but not processed as the min value not reached.
Let's suppose there is products called PRD01 which has min value of 10. A person (Per1) purchased 3 qty but it will not processed immediately as the min value not reached. Now another person (Per2) purchased 7 qty since it has reached the min value it should mail the Per1, Per2 confirming their order.
I have created a function which whill check if the MinValue reached Once the person does checkout. User Order should be processed imediately and if the Min value reached he should be mailed even he has closed the browser.
I am using a Global.asax in on my webpage to run a function with an interval. In this test I have set the interval to 1 minute to be able to see what happens.
I have declared a timer in the Application Start which should mean that when I open up the webpage after I have uploaded the Global.asax the timer will start.
However with this code below where I try to create a file named newFile.txt, this file is not created. I cant really understand what I could be missing. It seems that the function is not running ?

I need to call a function everytime a visitor visits one of my website's page. But I do not want the execution of the function to interfere with the interface between the user and the website i.e. different thread. What is the best way to do that on ASP.Net?
View 3 RepliesI need to create something which is like an Add friend function in my website which works like this:
1) User types in name of the person he wants to search in the search field and clicks enter
2) on the same page, the search result will come out with an "add friend" button beside every name
3) when the user clicks the "add friend" button, he will be brought to another page (or pop up with a message box?) with a text message field to send to the friend, and a submit button to submit the friend request.
4) over at the Friend's page, he will be able to view the add friend request and decide whether to accept or deny the friend request.
I want to control the look and feel of my site by having two css files. One for colors and one for everything else. I want to put the colors css file in the App_Themes folder but I want to add the other file to every page on my site, but not add it to App_Themes because I want it to be loaded regardless of what Theme I am using.
Is there a way to add a reference in Web.Config for the global css file? I already have a reference to the styleSheetTheme for my css file with the colors in.
Background:
I have an inherited web application that uses Flash AS2 and PHP 5.x on IIS (Windows 2008 R2) with MySQL. There is a setting for a timeout that does not work - no code was ever written but the client has the radio button to turn it on and off. The setting is saved in the MySQL database.
Requirement:
The timeout should give a pop-up when there is 1 minute to go and then redirect to a new page after the time has expired.
Question:
Is there a way to use a global timer as a standalone application (like a background worker in DotNet) without effecting the existing Flash or PHP code? I can think of several ways to include code in the application but I was needing a way to do it without having to add code to the 400 or so pages of existing code. The solution can use ASP.NET or PHP as both are available on the Server.
I'm trying to create Global.asax in a Winform. I could do it in ASP.NET, but i couldn't find a way for Windows Application. I have a singleton class called DataAccessLayer, i need to instantiate it once only, so i can call its method/properties anywhere in the application easily.

I know there is a couple answered questions on here regarding "request scoped" globals, but I want to nit-pick on something specifically and maybe squeeze some extra enlightenment out of one or two of you.I have an ASP.NET C# Website and a static Dictionary of objects (loaded from DB once on Application start). Each page request will need to do a lookup in the Dictionary (based on a key derived from the request url/etc) and get the appropriate object.The issue is I'm trying to maximize efficiency by reducing the lookups to the Dictionary per Request. Doing just a single lookup within a Page itself is easy enough and I can pass the object to sub controls, etc too.. but global.asax is separate from the Page and it also needs to use the object (in Application_BeginRequest and Session_Start).
So is doing a Dictionary lookup once in Application_BeginRequest, once (when necessary) in Session_Start and once in the Page negligible speed wise, even if there are many requests coming in every second?I would like it if I could just have a Request scoped global variable that I can easily call upon.. the only one I see available though is HttpContext.Current.Items and that is a Dictionary itself.Am I beingridiculously nit-picky with my concern over efficiency? or will these milliseconds (nanoseconds?) get me in the long run when more and more requests are being made?
PS. I currently only have around 100 objects in the Dictionary although this may increase in the future.
I've began working with asp.net mvc very recently and I've ran into a problem.I've got an aspx page which renders a few ascx pages. What I'd like to do is declare a global var at the aspx page so it is visible to all its childs. I tried <% var i = 0; %> but it wasn't visible at the child pages. What could I do?
View 4 RepliesHow do I need get the variable in the master page?
1. after Login.aspx get the information of the user
2. redirect to home.aspx
3. in home.aspx, view the info like Label1.text ="Welcome " + varUser;
4. Label1 is located in the master page
5. this varUser will display in all my pages
6. I don't want to use the full Session["var"] (because of expiration)
*in short I just want to get the var in the master page everytime I load a new page

I have an asp.net application. I want to add a global.asax and global.asax.cs file to my project. In the IDE when I select to create a new global.asax file, the option to create a CS code behind file is greyed out. When the global.asax file is created, no code behind is created, instead code is placed in the global.asax file and the global.asax.cs file is never created? Why is the option for a C# code behind file greyed out?
View 4 RepliesI'm working on an MVC application and I ran into a little snag.
I've got a form with the usual textboxes and dropdowns. I decided to use jquery ajax (GET) to load the dropdowns on load (State Names & Salutations).
No matter what I try, for example:
Code:
<AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)> _
Public Function ReturnSalutationDropdown() As ActionResult
Dim dropdown As New DropDownList With {.TabIndex = 1, .DataTextField = "Value", _
.DataValueField = "Key", .ID = "ddl_coSalutation"}
dropdown.DataTextField = "Value"
dropdown.DataValueField = "key"
dropdown.DataSource = AppEnumerations.BindToEnum(GetType(AppEnumerations.Salutation))
dropdown.DataBind()
Dim sb As New StringBuilder
Dim tw As New IO.StringWriter(sb)
Dim hw As New HtmlTextWriter(tw)
dropdown.RenderControl(hw)
Return Content(sb.ToString)
End Function
The ID of the dropdown ends up like: ctl00$MainContent$ddl_coSalutation
It doesn't matter if I use a stringbuilder and a loop to create a <select> with <option>'s, the ID always ends up like above.
Do I have to create a javascript function to create it instead?
I have an ASP.NET application where i am tracking my applicaion level erros using golabl.asax On_Error method.I will send an email to my id when there is some error happened in the site(ie :" when the application _error being invoked) Now From my global.asax's Application_OnError event, how can i get the URL of the page where this error was raised ?

RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes);

void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes)
{
routes.Add(

new SiteRouteHandler() { PageVirtualPath = "~/courses.aspx" })
);
}
</script>
Page code:
<a href="cources/Microsoft-Technology/#D70632F">Click Here</a>
Its working fine without "#" I am having problem with "#". How can i write "#" in global as well as page.
I am categorizing my website page to be defined as Secured & unsecured (ie few page on http & other on https) in Global.asax. Now, Product.aspx page has to be defined as unsecured. But I just couldn't make out how to define this since it is called with a querystring. If I simply define it as "Product.aspx", output is coming incorrect ie I need to define it as "Product.aspx?pid=123". But since there are lot many products, so I couldn't define it like this.

I want to create a function that a web method will call - and that function will be in a DLL.
I am assuming that having that function in a DLL is better then leaving it as source since it won't recompile when IIS recycles or whatever schedule that falls under.
Do I need to make this function in a different project (solution) and compile it down to a DLL and then refer to that folder location in the WEB.CONFIG?
And I assume I just put it in the BIN folder in INETPUB - right? Do I need a WEB.CONFIG reference to it as well - in production?

I have tried everything, even uninstalling asp.net mvc3, and I can't get HandleError global filter working.I have set up the HandleError filter in the Global.asax:
public static void RegisterGlobalFilters(GlobalFilterCollection filters)
{
filters.Add(new HandleErrorAttribute());
}
Also I have CustomErrors enabled (it does not matter if i set defaultRedirect="Error" or not, I think that is in the docs because is needed for older versions of mvc):
<customErrors mode="On" />
Trying to navigate through the page until the error gets raised, wether you do from localhost or using the hostname, inside the development server or IIS 7.5, it always redirects to a standard status 500 page, instead of my custom Error.cshtml view that I have created in Shared. Here is Error view code:
@model System.Web.Mvc.HandleErrorInfo
@{
ViewBag.Title = "Oooops";
}
<h2>Ooops Something really bad happened!</h2>
Also I have noted that if I create a new ASP.NET MVC3 project and then select "Internet Application" template, and just enabling customErrors in that project, then the HandleError filter starts working just fine, however using the empty MVC3 template does not.I want to clarify, that indeed I can see the error view being processing when debugging, however the browser always display Error 500 page.
