This has got to be more simple than I'm making it. I want to generate a listbox with years for the values. It needs to be dynamic. It needs to list from 17 years ago to 25 years ago. This is what I have so far, I get the correct number of items in the listbox, but I don't get the correct value. They are all "1985".

On adding items in it ,shows an error: "Dropdownlist does not allow multiple selection."But when i tries to print the selected item it shows null exception.

Update 1: Instead of generating a GUID for each item in the collection, I'd like to generate incremental indexes starting with 0. Right now the field names look like "gifts[GUID].value"; I would like them to be "gifts[0].value","gifts1.value" etc. but I don't understand how the collection keeps track and generates these indices.

i have a list of complex object letīs say: List<House>, inside of a model that i pass to the view.
To render that list i use the Html.EditorFor(x => x.list[i], "PartialView") inside of a div (<div id="editor"></div>). To "add" an item i use an ajax method that return a new partial view of the same type, an append it to the the div.
This way, the new partial it's appended but when i do the post, only the first item (list[0], the one that i pass in the controller to start) itīs bounded, but, the items added via ajax arenīt.
What could i do in this case? i wan't mi list to grow every time i hit the link that calls the ajax method and then take every item and add them to my database. i've followed this tutorials:

I can't seem to figure out a way to make the width of the drop menus consistent (they're following the padding conventions I have outlined, I get that). What I'm interested in is a way to make the DynamicItemsStyle width on all items the width of the widest one.
I've been at this same question in different forms now for a while (see e.g. Entity Framework and MVC 3: The relationship could not be changed because one or more of the foreign-key properties is non-nullable. ), and it's still bugging me, so I thought I'd put it a little more generically:
You have an entity object (using Entity Framework), say User. The User has some simple properties such as FirstName, LastName, etc. But it also has some object property lists, take the proverbial example Emails, to make this simple. Email is often designed as a list of objects so that you can add to that object properties like Address and Type (Home, Work, etc). I'm using this as an example to keep it generic, but it could be anything, the point is, you want the user to be able to add an arbitrary number of these items. You should also be able to delete items (old address, or whatever).
Now, in a normal web page you would expect to be able to add these items in the same View. But MVC as it seems designed only makes it easy to do this if you call up an entirely new View just to add the address. (In the template for an Index View you get the "Create New" link e.g.).
I've come across a couple of examples that do something close to what I mean here:

The problem is, although the sample projects on these sites work fine, with mock model objects, and simply lists (not an object with a child list), it's a different thing if you actually want to do something with the posted information - in my case save to database through the Entity Framework model. To adapt these cases to that, all of a sudden I'm in a maze of intricate and definitely not DRY code... Juggling objects with AutoMapper and whatnot, and the Entity Framework won't let you save and so on (see above link if you're interested in the details).
What I want to get at is, is it really possible that this is such an uncommon thing to want to do? Update a child collection in the same View as the parent object (such as the email addresses in this case)? It seems to me it can't be uncommon at all, and there must be a standard way of handling this sort of scenario, and I'm just missing it (and no one here so far has been able to point me to a straighforward solution, perhaps because I made it too abstract with my own application examples).

I have a button on the page, which when clicked, should write (on submit) the selected state of each of the items. The code below writes the text values of each of the items fine however it always writes the li.Selected as False even though i have selected items from the list. Note that you can select Multiple items from the list. Does anyone have a clue why its not writing 'True' for an item that is selected on submit?

I have a listview which has a complicated Item template that contains a repeater, an objectdatasource and some other controls. On the first run I am only showing 10 Items of the listview. The user has an option to show 10 more ListView Items. If user clicks on show older items; the listview shall add another 10 items. how to go around this since my list view already has a datasource and I don't want to rebind the whole listview all over again. Instead; I just want to add another 10 items.

The menu items and the childs are populating correctly but then the menu is not being displayed on the menu control.

I have a few tables, Listings, ListingImages and a few others related to Listings. ListingImages is related to Listings so that you can have many ListingImages per Listing.
When I query this table I do;

Now this is fine. However, I now want to sort the ListingImages independently within each Listing (by an ImageOrder column I have in that table).
How can I do this and pass all my Includes(...). Would it be bad form to sort the ListingImages within the View as this solution seems to work?
I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition on Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 and when I am editing Visual Basic and want to add an item to the toolbox I click on Choose Items... and from that point I can't find important controls (items) like Windows Media Player or Adobe PDF Viewer. It always displays ONLY 10 items although there are 30 items in the datatable. If i use GridView ALL the 30 items are displayed just fine.
So I have a ListView (assignmentsListView) in an UpdatePanel, being filtered by a DropDownList in the same UpdatePanel. The DropDownList has a list of persons in it and uses autopostback, and the ListView shows the tasks those persons are assigned to.
I am trying to use code similar to this:

When I first load the page, the DropDownList shows the first person in the list, and the ListView correctly shows that persons tasks.
If I then select a person who I know has zero tasks, I get an error at the RegisterPostBackControl() method, saying the passed-in control cannot be null.
When debugging, at the RegisterPostBackControl method, it shows that the ListView Items collection has >0 elements in it (the number of elements matches the person selected before the current person).
I'm creating an quiz application which queries the database and extracts the questions and choices. I use dynamically created controls such as a checkbox list and fill the values dynamically. How do I do this? Right now I have these functions:
array_random_init(); this creates a 10 element integer array from 1-20 - extract_question(i): this extracts a question indexed at i in DB, I created the controls and set the appropriate text in this function. - validate_question(i); this is called by button_click and validates the question i according to DB.
I understand I have to recreate the controls in Page_init on postback, but what should it look like? Do I need to add "if IsPostBack" in page_init, or do I create the controls in page_init() and reset their properties in page_load when I use extract_question(i)? Also, I cannot seem to clear the selected boxes on postback, I added page directive "enableviewstate=false" but it doesn't work.
I have a website that sales associates access to view account information with clients. S.A's can only view information for accounts that they are tied to. Some clients have more than one account, S.A's can be tied to more than one account, but not all accounts of one client need to be tied to one S.A.
On the account info pages, I have account numbers (dynamically displayed labels) displayed of other accounts that the account client is associated with, which the S.A's can see. I'm modding this so that if the S.A has viewing permissions of any of the other accounts on that list of accounts, that instead of a label being displayed, a button directing them to that account page will display instead. In order for this to work, I have to attach a security function to the button, otherwise the page will blow out on the S.A's.
So I'm running a piece that is displaying a button instead of a label, which is working fine. My problem is when I try to attach the security event to the dynamically displayed buttons. It seems that the page just posts back and doesn't execute my code at all.
On my Page_Load, I'm running this after the buttons and labels are displayed:

I don't have any code checking for postbacks or anything like that, but the "PermissionViewCheck" event never fires and just reposts the page.
In my aspx page, I have a number of drop down controls. I would like to update an attribute on each of the controls with "class=leftColumn" with the following line: propertyID.Attributes["nameOfAttribute"] = "false";
But instead of manually writing out each controlID and setting its attribute with the line above, I had hoped there was a way to go through and set the attribute on each control ID if it had class=leftcolumn. This is something I know is very easy with JQuery, BUT I need to do it with the code behind (C#) I was told this is not possible (i.e. to acquire a list of all the controls and then iterate through the list and give it the attribute or any other way. That manually setting each control like the above example is the only way in ASP.NET.
I am creating a survey page that has a list of questions and answers that can be radiobuttonlists, checkboxlists or textboxes. These controls are added dynamically to a Repeater in its ItemDataBound event using Controls.Add.
I've managed to render the page ok but when I submit the form and iterate over the controls in the repeater to get the selectedvalues of the radiobuttons and textbox values, FindControl returns null. What do I need to do to get get the selected values? I've tried iterating over the RepeaterItems but that returned null too. I've tried different types of FindControl but it never resolves the control types.
It works if I add a declarative DataBinder in the Repeater like this
