MVC :: How To Retrieve Checkboxlist Values In The Controller
Apr 23, 2010
I am having a form in a view page that looks as below:
[Code]...
Now when the form is posted, I am trying to retrieve the values submitted in the controller as below:
[Code]...
The string value shows null when I submit the form by checking some checkboxes. Is this the way to retrieve the values or am I doing something wrong? And I cannot use html control because all other controls on the form are server controls and I am not sure if I can only make this control a html control. And I am not sure how can I bind the values to it?

I am using a CheckBoxList in order for the user to select multiple items:
<td>
Shift Preference:(Multiple Selections Permitted)<br />
<asp:CheckBoxList ID="shiftPreferenceList" SelectionMode="Multiple" runat="server">
<asp:ListItem Value="">None</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="1st Shift">1st Shift</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="2nd Shift">2nd Shift</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="3rd Shift">3rd Shift</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Weekends">Weekends</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Overtime">Overtime</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Holidays">Holidays</asp:ListItem>
</asp:CheckBoxList>
</td>
I need to read the value(s) chosen in code behind in order to execute a sql statement:
SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyDB"].ConnectionString);
connection.Open();
//Need to insert checked items into table
string sql = "Insert into shiftTable (ID, preference) values (" + id.text + ", " + shiftPreferenceList.selectedValue.toString() + ")
How would I iterate through the multiple selections and insert all checked values?

I use a ModalpopupExtender to show a dialog to the user which consist of a CheckBoxList control that is bound to a session table. The user can check/uncheck the CheckBoxList items and click the Ok control to close the ModalPopUp. How can I retrieve the values of the CheckBoxList items controls using JavaScript (seems like I cannot do it using server side scripting)?

I have a form with 2 sections. The first one contains some radio buttons. The second one contains a checkboxlist. When we change the selected radio button then it modifies the elements in the checkboxlist. For this I setted the radio buttons with autopostback, and in the code behind (in OnLoad) I populate the CheckBoxList depending on the selected radio button.
This work fine.
The problem is that I also have a button at the end of my form which post the data of my form in another page (with PostBackUrl). Then in that page I would like to retrieve the values of the checked checkbox. But I can't find how to do that. In the Request.Form I don't see anything.
I searched on the web but I didn't found really a solution.

how I access /retrieve values of checkboxlist inside a repeater? My code is below..is it the same as if it was not inside a repeater? My other concern is how do I distinguish these checkboxes because basically what 's going to happen here is based on which checkbox is selected I need to query an xml file to get the location of a folder which I'm then going to zip up and allow user to download..So here's the breakdown. I have an accordion panel using jquery ui. Each panel hold a product and each product has the same checkboxes..so depending on which product the user wants to download files for which he/she will indicate by opening the accordion panel for that product and checking which checkboxes/file they want to download . So how will I know which product the user clicked the checkboxes for being that I'm using this repeater which just one ID?
[Code]....
can I still use this code or will it not work cause it's inside a repeater..also I was going to use jquery to add an onclick event to the checkbox so how can I do that now with me using this control?
[Code]....
Here's another issue..I can't even assign values to the checkboxlist using databinding..so how am I suppose to do this.. Server Error in '/ArchitectView' Application. Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Databinding expressions are only supported on objects that have a DataBinding event. System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItem does not have a DataBinding event.Source Error:

may I ask one seemingly simple question - I have a Javascript function that loops through my checkboxes(they're plain HTML checkboxes, not using the helper methods), and for every checked one it's adding its value to an array. So now, how do I get this array in my controller so that I can assign its values to the fields, i.e. object's properties?
This is my checkbox code:
[Code]....
and the script:
[Code]....
and here's the controller code:
[Code]....
Now, this langID should be assigned every checked checkbox's value, so I guess I'm missing a loop here too, it should go until some border that's gotten from the client script or something, but my bigger problem is how to retrieve the posted values from the javascript, something like PHP's POST["array"]...?
This Request.Form works fine when just one checkbox is checked, but now I need it to work with several checked..

I have a filter on my MVC web site. I display some records in a few different controller actions but when moving from one action to another I want to apply those filter values.
How can I persist values from controller to controller?
Should I use Session? TempData?
I am using Structure Map for IOC.
Maybe I could have a class that contains a Property for each Session Value that I use in my application and inject it on the controllers that need session?

SQL TablesListingID, Title.....ListngTypeID,NameListingMatrixListingID, ListingTypeID
Basically a listing can be more than 1 type and I want that to be able to be shown using the ListingMatrix table. However, I'm having a lot of issues populating the checkboxlist because I have it being sorted by Title to keep it user friendly. I'm using VB.Net, LINQ and MS SQL.
Dim readListingMatrix = (From ListingCategories In db.ListingTypeMatrixes _
Where ListingCategories.ListingID = ListingID)
For Each row In readListingMatrix
CheckBoxListListingCategories.Items(row.ListingTypeID - 1).Selected = True

I am calling a Controller Action from a view, within that controller I need to invoke another Action which I will invoke to save the view to a network location as either HTML or Image.
How do I retrieve the URL to an Action from within a Controller. I need the actual URL, this means RedirectionToAction or View() wont work.
Why? I need to pass in a URL which will contain a call to a View. This view will be used to generate an image or HTML document using the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser.
.NET 3.5; C#; MVC 1;
I could do something like this, but its dirty ... well it leaves me with that dirty feeling.
using(Html.BeginForm("Action", "MyWorkflowController",
new {
MyId = "bla",
URLToGenerateImage = Url.Action("GenerateImage", "MyWorkflowController")
}))

ASP.NET MVC 2 and the display of commonly used data.Let's say for example, I wanted to have a listing of "Latest News" items on the right hand of my web page. Back in the day, I would made a user control called NewsList.ascx, put some DB data retrieval code in the code-behind and drop the user control intoI would like to do the same thing, but using MVC. Obviously, I don't want to place DB retrieval code into every controller to retrieve news items for the ViewData.How could I add a "Plugin?" or similar to retrieve the data across EVERY controller?

I am trying to insert 8 different selected values from a CheckBoxList into 8 different columns of a database. As it now, I am only able to concatenate all 8 selections into a single string in one column. But this is not what I want to do. In my DB I have Column1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Is there any way of getting this done?

I'm having a bit of trouble with my CheckBoxList control in ASP.NET - it seems to not store the values that I have checked (?)This is the test-code I have at the moment:
for (int i = 0; i < cbMemberTypes.Items.Count; i++)
{
if (cbMemberTypes.Items[i].Selected)
{
// do stuff
}
}
I have tried to output the amount of checked items, but it is always returning 0. I'm rather lost here, because in my other usercontrol, it works perfectly!

I have a GridView which I have a List bound to - I want to be able to allow filter of the data based on multiple CheckBoxLists. For arguments sake let's say I have a List of Jobs, and I want to filter the jobs by code - So I would have a CheckBoxList likeC#ASP.NETphpF#etc..If someone selects multiple codes, how do you pass the values into a List to rebind to the GridView? Is there a way to pass values as an array? Or maybe a comma seperated string?Any examples (I'm a C# boy) would be greatly appreciated, and I hope I have explained it properly :S

I have a page with 5 seperate collections of checkboxes that are created according to entries in a database...i.e. the checkboxes ID values correspond to a selectable list from a database.
I also have a list of records which is a subset of the list of checkboxes and refers to those checkboxes within the list that have been checked (selected).
So...2 tables...one with the complete list of checkboxes, and the other with the list of those that are to be marked as checked
I've built the checkboxes in the view by passing the list via the model and using a for loop as so:
[Code]....
I've also passed the list of checkboxes that should be checked via the model. My problem now is initially how to populate those checkboxes that should be checked.
