I have access to two seperate databases (mySQL) located on two servers. I need to get the data, link the tables on a key field and display the results in a datagrid. My challenge is that if the search criteria changes for the display it affects rows returned from on table and should thus automatically affect the linked table and resulting data returned.
what the best approach would be to achieving this? So far I have set up a dataset with a dataadapter and table for each connection and then linked the tables in the dataset. The problem that I'm having is getting the linked resultsets to work.
On my form I have the datagrid with two Objectdatasources one for each dataadapter and i believe that's where I'm going wrong...

I'm pretty sure this is something super easy, but how do i access a resource that is in a separate project using the expression syntax?
I thought it would be like so:
<%$ Resources:SomeNamespace.Resources.Web, PleaseSelectAnImage %>
where SomeNamespace.Resources is the project that the resources are located in.
i normally just do <%= SomeNamespace.Resources.Web.PleaseSelectAnImage%> but i need to have this inside a control.
<kw:SlickUpload ID="SlickUpload1" runat="server"
ValidExtensions=".png, .gif, .jpg"
InvalidExtensionMessage="<%$ Resources:SomeNamespace.Resources.Resources.Web, PleaseSelectAnImage %>" >
so when i just do what i normally do, it puts '<%= SomeNamespace.Resources.Web.PleaseSelectAnImage%>" literally.
my project name is SomeNamespace.Resources. the resource file name is Web. and the key is PleaseSelectAnImage.

Do you keep the developer's control panel and the application's web service, in 1 project? or do you separate them into 2 different projects?(Developer's control panel, is used to setup the web service API, check logs, read document specification, and details about each web service)When you host the solution you would do something like this..developer.domain.com <-- developer's control panel
api.domain.com <--- web service api
or
api.domain.com <-- both developer's control pnel and web service api

I have a list of users on my MSSQL database that I want to display on a page. But it's like 500 users and it takes a little while to load it. How can I get started with making it create seperate sets of user so that it has like a page 1 page 2 etc?
The list is not bound to a server control, I am just getting the data using JSON from JQuery AJAX so theres not really much ASP.Net involved at this point, except that the JQuery calls WebMethods in the code behind. The table is then created using Javascript.

Currently, we have our ASP.NET applications running on windows server 2003. All of our data resides on an IBM ISeries / AS400. The 400 people are going to be creating massive new tables with millions of records. Because of this, I've been asked to look into the idea of putting new ASP.NET pages on the IBM ISeries server. This server uses APACHE. I have read that to do this, I will need to use the Mod_Mono Apache module. I would like to come up with a list of benefits and drawbacks to this new idea. Initially, it seems like this is a bad idea for a few reasons:
Security: if a users gets unauthorized access to our local server(s), they will only have access to either DB or web server, not both. Maintainability: Microsoft ASP.NET is easier to implement on a Microsoft Windows Server. Problem Solving: I will have to first determine if an issue is due to the ISeries server, or the Apache server, or the ASP.NET application. This could be countered by saying that I would already have to determine if the issue is due to Windows server, or ASP.NET application. However I have better experience with troubleshooting on a windows box that I am familiar with.
Problem Creating: I could escentially create a problem that not only takes down the web server, but the database as well, and other RPG programs running on the ISeries. Resources: The database server will not have to server my application, it will only have to retrieve the data for it.
Drivers: The windows server already contains many drivers and .DLL's that are used... will these even exist on the ISeries? How easy (if even possible) would it be to get them on the ISeries if they dont exist..? A few positive thoughts: The application will reside on the same server as the data, thus, it may be quicker at retrieving data from these millions of records in a table. This was the main point as to why I should look into this possibility. Single point of failure. We no longer have to worry about two servers going down and causing this application to be unavailable...

I am writing a plugin architecture. My plugin dlls are located in a sub directory from where the plugin manager is running. I am loading the plugins into a separate AppDomain as the following:
string subDir;//initialized to the path of the module's directory.
AppDomainSetup setup = new AppDomainSetup();
setup.PrivateBinPath = subDir;
setup.ApplicationBase = subDir;
AppDomain newDomain= AppDomain.CreateDomain(subDir, null, setup);
byte[] file = File.ReadAllBytes(dllPath);//dll path is a dll inside subDir
newDomain.Load(file);
However. newDomain.Load returns an assembly which the currently domain attempts to load. Because the plugin dlls are in a sub directory, the current domain cannot and should not see these dlls and the current domain throws a FileLoadException"ex = {"Could not load file or assembly ... or one of its dependencies."
The question is, can we load an assembly into a separate AppDomain without it returning the loaded assembly?
I know I can add a handler for the AssemblyResolve event in the current domain and return a null, but I would prefer to not to go this route.

I have two web applications in the same solution.They both use different membership/profile and role providers.They are named differently. When I run the solution, and visit one website, and login everything is fine.I then go to the other website, it thinks I am already logged in and the profile provider tries to load profile properties that do not exist.How can I keep them separate, so when I try to log in on one site, it doesn't think I'm still logged in on the other.

I am working on a website at the moment, I am using .NET 4 and VB. My site is contained within a Master Page and all working OK. I am using an ASP:MENU control which is driven by a web.sitemap file and works a treat. I have had an idea of something I would like to know but I am struggling to get it going correctly (not sure if it is even possible) What I am after doing is having the main categories of my website across the top horizonally (this part is no problem) and the sub menu items going vertically but down the left side of the page such as:
Logo Here
Menu Head 1
Menu Head 2
Menu Head 3
Sub Menu Head 1
Sub Menu Head 2
Sub Menu Head 3
Does anyone have any idea if such a thing is possible or not?

I have a textbox for a child's name. The user may enter just the first name, first name + middle name, or first name + middle name + last name for their child. How do I separate this string of texts appart so that I can compare it to the parent's last name textbox before inserting into the database? For example, if one part of the three parts in a child's name matches the parent's last name textbox then delete this part out of the child's full name before inserting into the database.

if you want to use Crystal Reports in .Net (visual studio 05/08). In a server setup with Crystal Reports can it reside on the same web servers as a .Net web app? If not can you provide a link to validate this.Actuate reports used to have it's own server software, don't know if this is similar.

I have a view where I want to perform different actions on the items in each row in a table, similar to this (in, say, ~/Views/Thing/Manage.aspx):
[code]....
In the most part, this is working fine. The problem is that if ThingService.SetEnabled throws an error, I want to be able to display the error at the top of the table. I've tried a few things with Html.ValidationSummary() in the page but I can't get it to work.
Note that I don't want to send the user to a separate page to do this, and I'm trying to do it without using any javascript.

Is there any reason to separate front-end FE and back-end BE (for Administration and customer service) in different websites under the same solution.
Actually it causes me problems in Removing items from the cache, (they) decided to put FE and BE in different app domains, this means different Cache objects!!
I asked them about the reason and they said
1- To not be out of memory and to remove BE effect on the FE performance.
I doubt on this, Customer service team are probably affecting the centralized database performance, but there hits will be like adding 10 customers to our website, it is nothing!! Also App domain memory extends when needed, as far as I know, it does not pre allocate resources
2- To avoid losing both FE and BE if the website goes down.
I agree but this is not a reason to put the whole BLL in a web service, what about SECURING the BLL!!!, I PREFER TO LOSE BOTH if the IIS goes down.

I have an ASP.NET Web Site I am creating in Visual Web Developer 2008 Express using Visual Basic as the language. It is actually a rewrite-with-mods of an existing ASP script and I'm trying to chew what I've bitten off. I created my page with a text box (txtOutput) on it and since the end product is very complex, and it's generally good practice to separate like functions, I have created 4 separate classes in the App_Code section.
My main page is Sync.aspx and has a code file Sync.aspx.vb with it.
One of my code files is SyncDatabases.vb and in it I have created
Public Class SyncDB
In that class I have created some routines such as
Public Function ReadMSDB(ByVal SQLString as string) as Boolean
In this routine I want to put information in my text box txtOutput on the main form (the default - Form1).
My problem is that if I try:
Form1.txtOutput.Text = "Hello world"
or just
txtOutput.Text = "Hello world"
it says Name 'Form1' (or 'txtOutput') is not declared. I am sure I am missing something simple but have no clue what it is. I assume it's the fact that the write command is in a file (class?) outside the file (class?) containing the page itself but I don't know how to address it properly.

I have a web application which uses membership and profiles. I successfully used the WebProfileBuilder extension, so my profile class is correctly generated, and is working nicely. However, after a new request of my client, I need now to move that profile management part into another assembly (so I'd be able to get profile information in a windows service running on the same machine).
What I made is created the new assembly, moved my generated profile file, and tried to use it from the other assembly, but without any success. I always get a SettingsPropertyNotFoundException. My thought is that the profile system doesn't know where to find its connection information, so I tried to add the connectionstring and provider in the app.config of this assembly, but this doesn't seem to work.

I have two projects in my solution: a) MVC Application b) Class Library. The class library acts as a plugin, so it contains views. The main problem is that I have no intellisense in the view's markup for my classes contained within the class library (the same assembly as the views). In the beginning I couldn't even write <%= Html.RenderAction... %>. I've solved that by adding a Web.config file to the class library with the following section:
<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true">
<assemblies>
<add assembly="System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add assembly="System.Web.Abstractions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add assembly="System.Web.Routing, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add assembly="System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add assembly="System.Data.DataSetExtensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Xml.Linq, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
</assemblies>
</compilation>
</system.web>
Now it recognizes Html.RenderAction, etc in the view's markup. However I've no idea how to get access (with intellisense) to my classes contained within the same assembly as the views

I have an application which contains different modules from different databases, for instance, I have a table called "ITEMS" in each database. When I create the classes for the table ITEMS I wonder how I can differentiate among them.
For instance, for now, I have "ItemDetails.cs" under App_Code folder BUT I need to create another "ItemDetails.cs" class which will reference the table ITEMS from a different database. If I create folder under the App_code the class name still remains the same.
I could add an acronym in front the class to differentiate which database I am working from but that makes the class name too long.

I am not sure exactly which topic this post should go under...
Here is what I am doing.
I have a web form where a person will edit their blog article. At some point, once they are done editing, they can click a button "Publish Blog Now".
Once the blog is published in the click event on the server side I am doing a query to get a list of subscriber email address.
These are people who subscribed to this blogger and wish to receive an email notification whenever this person publishes a new blog.
What I just realized today is that my hosting provider only allows me to send a maximum of 200 emails per hour. Which means in my loop I need to sleep for roughly 20 seconds between each email notification sent. But I dont want the user who clicked the publish button to have to sit there and wait while that process is going.
How can I return to the user but yet continue to run some code on the server side to send out the emails in the background even if user closes web browser?
This is an ASP.NET web application targeting .net 4.0 and I am using c# as my back-end language and VS2010 as my development tool.
