MVC :: How To Write Route For Search Form
Dec 13, 2010
I don't know if I'm tired today or what it is but I can't figure how to do this search route for the life of me.
For the moment I'm working on the default MVC 2 project so I made a search form on the index site.
[Code]....
the search actionresult got a httpget attribute attached to it. I tried the route like this.
[Code]....
EDIT
sorry if I wasn't clear with my question and problem but its the querystring I'm having problems with i get this Home/Search?query=Name+1 but I want it to be Home/Search/Name+1

I have a URL /products/search where Products is the controller and Search is the action. This url contains a search form whose action attribute is (and should always be) /products/search eg;
<%using( Html.BeginForm( "search", "products", FormMethod.Post))
This works ok until I introduce paging in the search results. For example if I search for "t" I get a paged list. So on page 2 my url looks like this :
/products/search/t/2
It shows page 2 of the result set for the search "t". The problem is that the form action is now also /products/search/t/2. I want the form to always post to /products/search.
My routes are :routes.MapRoute( "Products search",
"products/search/{query}/{page}",
new { controller = "Products", action = "Search", query = "", page = 1 });
routes.MapRoute( "Default",
"{controller}/{action}/{id}",
new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" });
How can I force Html.BeginForm(), or more specifically Url.Action( "Search", "Products"), to ignore the /query/page in the url?

As the title says when I click the submit button on my form, instead of taking me to the next form with a url of controller/action/id or /action/id I am getting a nice 404 with a url of /id/action
The offending action is called IntakePage2. Typing the correct route manually works.
My routes are as follows:
[Code]....
The relevant controller code is as follows:
[Code]....
The partial that IntakePage1 loads:
[Code]....
<%}%>
IntakePage2 main page (The partial it references just has the text "boo" in it at the moment. It is intended to take an InsertViewModel object at some point.)
[Code]....

We are rewriting a CGI Perl website to .NET and need to have site search capability. In the former site, we use the open source "Perlfect". Does anyone know if there is something similar for .NET or could make any recommendations?

I tried to mix asp.net 4 webfrom and ASp.Net MVC 3. I add required lines in webconfig, but I've issues implementing route in global.asax
Currently I use several routes for webfroms. routs template are like below
routes.MapPageRoute("Node", _
"article/sport/{nID}/", _
"~/article/articleview.aspx")
I encounter error, when I add below lines to global.asax
routes.MapRoute( _
"Defaultss", _
"{controller}/{action}/{id}", _
New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id = UrlParameter.Optional} _
)
I want to know how could I mix ASp.Net MVC routes with webforms routes.

I have a url that I want to map routing to:
[URL]
where tabvalue is one of: "personal", "professional", "values" or nothing.
I want to map it to a route like:
Member/Edit/{tab}
But my problem is - I don't know how to specify such constraints. I'm trying this regex:
^[personal|professional|values]{0,1}$
but it only works when I use url
[URL]
[URL]
and doesn't work for
[URL]
how to specify the correct constraint?
P.S. I'm not using MVC, just asp.net WebForms

I want to create a search form that will check MS Access db. The form will have many checkboxes for users to check if they want to query specific amenities for a lodging query. It would probably be easier if somebody could recommend an example of how to do this rather than explaining each part. How to set setup up Access Datasource to return only those checkbox fields that are checked. So for example if there are checkboxes for the following.
Fireplace, HotTub,PetsAllowed,LaudryFacilities,Telephone,TV,DVD....
How to set up if user only chooses the first 3 selections? Perhaps my biggest obstacle is the select statement as all the fields in question here will be of boolean type Yes/No aka True/False.

I was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction in creating a search form with the data being displayed with paging. My background is ASP classic and I would like to know the best approach in acheiving this with MVC. Maybe if we could take the Movie Library tutorial and add a search function to it, so I can understand from the ground up. Basically, I'd like to see a couple of fields for the movie title and director in a form, with a search button. The data in these fields would the be used as parameters for the SQL to query the database and then display the data in the respective view with paging. Whats the use of a database if it cant be searched by the user? Obviously being an asp classic dev, I'm not familiar with C#. I will go down this road eventually, but I'd like to go down this path 1st.

I've got a gridview that I need to perform filters on. All works great until I try and add a date range..
Below is the code. Basically I have 5 dropdown lists which all filter as expected giving them the option to use each one or just the ones they need.
The problem is they want to also have the option of filtering by date i.e date range or greater than or less than or equal to etc..
As soon as I add the date parameter it stops the other filters working. I'm guessing because I have a null value in the date field (textbox) if they dont use the option??
Does anyone have a sample on how to filter by dropdown lists and dates keeping in mind they wont use all the filter options?

I'm working on a asp.net forms web application where I've got advanced search form with grid listing results below. Grid is sortable and pageable. Grid is listing products.
I've got two requirements :
1) make the url remember the advanced search form state so search results page can be bookmarked etc.
2) on the product details page there is a back button that should take the user to the advanced search page with the same settings in the form and same grid state.
I have implemented a workaround to above two problems but I don't think my solution is very clean and I'd like to hear better ideas. My workaround is as follows :
1) I iterate through form fields and I put values into the querystring after the hash. So when the page is loaded it gets the values from url if available.
2) when user clicks a link to product details page from the grid I use javascript to create a cookie with url to advanced search page so when rendering the product details page I know the url for the back button.

I have a scenario where i want user to open a popup or other page from a web form to search contacts from database and add them to list and when done return that list back to parent form field and continue filling other fields.I have 2-3 user input which should take multiple values for each field from list of values and i wanted to implement this using pop up based search and add method (other alternative was to use dropdown with checkbox but the list is so big and it is not user friendly to use that)
Is this feasible using asp.net or is there a better architecture/method in .NET to implement this type other than popup based search and retrieval.

I have a requirement to build a "Search" form for a travel company. This search form will be used for searching different travel components such as Flights, Hotels, Cars etc.Most of the fields in the form are common (such as travel dates, origin and destination cities etc) for all components but will also contain some component specific fields (such as Business/First/Economy Class & Nonstop Flight Indicators for Flight Search).Even though most of the fields are common, they need to be displayed with component-specific labels.for example:"travel dates" would say "check-in & check-out dates" on Hotel search form where as they would say "departure & return dates" on Flight search form.What is the best approach to design a search form which would display field with component-specific labels and also provides a way to map/associate fields to components (common fields to all component types and component-specific fields to corresponding component)? Is there something similar to Data Annotations for achieving this behavior?

I want to do something similar to what priceline does. It saves the recent searches in a dropdown menu. When you pick one from the recent search. The form will be populated accordingly. (See screen shot [URL] This is what I am thinking. (1) Save the searches into an array in a cookie (2), when a recent search item is chosen, retrive the corresponding array element from the cookie and then populate the form. What do you think is the best way to implement this? I especially want to know how to save the form entries into the cookie and how to populate the form.

I am new to working with the Form View control so I am not quite sure how to do this.
I want my users to be able to enter search criteria into text boxes at the bottom of my FV just beneath a table and then click a button to initiate a DB search and rebind of the form.
Where do I create/ access the button's event handler to make this happen ?
I would like to have buttons in the Item template and possibly the edit template sections of the FV.
So I have created my buttons and now I want to access their button click events.
Here is my meager start this is located in the Formview databound event:

Was looking at asp.net mvc complex routing for tree path as an example of how to define a custom route handler for my MVC app. Essentially, I want to give the end user ultimate flexibility in defining the URL for any given page, so I provide them with a field in the interface to specify their own custom URL.
My custom route handler is basically a wild-card handler. It will do a lookup and if it finds a match, map it accordingly. However, if no match is found, I want it to fall back and find the next rule that matches in the global.asax. Is that possible? Or do I essentially need to code the mappings that used to exist in my global.asax into my custom route handler?

It works fine but problem is, the form gets freeze while searching data on database. Even sometimes it won't give any intellisense or application get crash (rare case).
Any improvements I can do in this code:

Suppose we want to select the data from the database then we write the query for that. Example:
SqlConnection con=new SqlConnection(Connetion name) string selectPkId = @"SELECT PK_ID FROM TABLE" SqlCommand cmd=new SqlCommand(selectPkId ,con);
So,my question is that why we basically use @ before the sql query.If I don't use @ before that then it again work fine (does not give any error), then what is need of using "@"?
