MVC Login Route - "/" For A Logged In User?

Feb 16, 2010

Currently I am using ASP.NET MVC and have home/index for logged out user which appears as "/" but this has got me confused as to how I can have "/" for a logged in user? I could modify like 127.0.0.1/home - but I want it like "/". My confusion relates to the fact that the "/" [127.0.0.1/] is bound in the routes collection to home/index. How can I have it so that "/" is shared for login/logout ?

C# - Programmatically Login To A Website And Redirect The User To The Logged In Page?

Mar 15, 2010

Right now, I have all the employees of my company login to an external website using the company id, username and a password. We are trying to integrate it into an intranet portal which should provide seamless access to this website without requiring the user to enter these credentials.

Is there any way of doing this programmatically (.NET C#)? Very similar to screenscraping, Can I simulate the appropriate POST action and then redirect the user to the logged in page?

C# - Login Page Can't Reference Other Files Without Being Logged In?

Feb 8, 2011

My login page has images and CSS applied to it. When I run my site locally (start without debugging), it brings up my login page, but none of my images are displaying and my css isn't linking. I'm referencing correctly, I promise. However, when I view this page in VS's Design view, it shows the images and CSS. Also, if I run it and log in, and click the back button, everything shows up (images/css)! But if I logout (which redirects me to the login page), my images/css isn't there! Its as if the page can't reference its own resources unless the user is logged in. WTH. I'm only having this problem on my local VS server; it seems to work fine when I put it on the live server (woot). Anyone know why this is happening?Here is a portion of my login page that is requesting the image/css:

<head runat="server">
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="styles/BodyLayout.css" />
<title>Optoma USA - Login</title>
</head>
<body>

Security :: Forms Authentication With Route Handling - Error Routes Not Recognized, Returns To Login

Oct 1, 2010

I just created a small site with form authentication with route handling. Without forms authentication, the pages route just fine. With forms, it returns back to the login page as it is not one of my allowed locations specified in my web.config file.

I know I probably need to write a custom route handler. Does anyone have an example I can follow for this?

Security :: Access Denied For Logged User (anonymous User Is Fine)

Jan 7, 2011

I deployed a website where a logged user or an anonymous user can select data and download a XML file. The website generate the XML file in the server and then deliver it.

It works fine in my development environment, but after deployment, the anonymous user can download the file, but the logged user receive this error:

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'd:HostsLocalUserheringerwebsiteUpload20110107094051.xml' is denied.

It is weird that as anonymous i can do it.

The website server help states this:

"Grant write, modify, delete access rights on website's folder

Your website executes under unique user account that by default has full control over the website's folder.
So your application can create, open, read, write and delete files and folders inside of your root folder.

There is no need and no way to change this permissions.

If, when running ASP.Net application, you still unable to create file or update it, you have to check your Web.Config file for "<Identity impersonate..." tag and remove it.

The only exception is when the application tries to modify a file or folder in "Application_Start" event of Global.asax file. This is by design that user authenticated only after the Application_Start even. Before the user is authenticated your website runs under an identity of Application Pool which is "Network services". That account doesn't have access to the folder of your website.

To make it work you eather have to move the code that tries to modify files or folders out of the "Application_Start" event of the Global.asax file or inside the event you'll need to impersonate your user by code."

But i am not using impersonate and the tag is not in my web.config.

MVC :: How To Implement One Route For Adminitration User - Roles Management

May 4, 2010

i would like to implement one route for my Adminitration user - roles management (http://<domain>/Administration/ManageUserRoles/<userName>/<roleName>), where Administration is the Controller and ManageUserRoles is the action and another for managing everywhere in the site where there is an id / name combination ((http://<domain>/<controller>/<Action>/<id>/<name>)).

From what i have tried so far, the Administration route catches all the routing that has the format http://<controller>/<action>/<param1>/<param2> and as a result the id / name url parameters are displayed as query url parameters.

Web Forms :: Session - URL Routing To Route User To His Profile Page

Jan 12, 2011

I am using URL Routing to route user to his profile page, which is a child page. Now the problem is that all the images, javascripts references are distorted when i user the url to reach that page whether logged in or not logged in (both the cases). But after reaching this page when i login from this page thru my modal popup login control, all the references seem to work fine. It is to be noted that i am still in that same page which i reached after url routing. So upon logging from here the whole page works and displays fine.

How come the references are automatically adjusted when i am logging in from this page and are not referenced when i log in from other page and route here or when i am logged out?

Global.asax code:

void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes);
}
public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes)
{
routes.Add("UseridRoute", new Route
(
"profile/{user}",
new CustomRouteHandler("~/UserProfile.aspx")
));
}
