We are developing for a customer a series of .NET intranet applications currentlydeveloped in ASP. However we would like to avoid the users the annoyance of having of login twice when they pass from one .NET application to an ASP one, Is there any way to export the session data from one application to the other?

But what all configuration settings I have to do so that
all the future requests to this application run under the security context of the Logged in user account not through the some default user set in IIS.
We need to have this working because all the permissions on the database are based on the logged in user.
We are using form authentication for LDAP authentication. And having impersonation = true in web.config.
i used security in login page which restricts all users who have not logged in to all pages. I need to restrict specific users to specific pages. I'm not using AspSqlService provider. So i cannot create roles and restrict automatically. And the pictures i use in login page are not visible @ runtime.

I have another table called LOGIN with fields(id,DOB,password) example values(1001,24101989,madhukumar)
What i want is , if i login using the LOGIN table ,it check the id and permission in the ROLE table , if the permission is 'hr' it enable to access the menu , or if the permission is any other it just print the error message ("no permission")
Note: menu is placed in master page , but login is not in the master page ...
I have a Login.aspx in my application.
After users logged in, if they press "back" in the browser, it goes to the Login.aspx page.
But I don't want to show users the Login.aspx page when they are logged in. how to restrict users to see the login.aspx page if they are logged in??

Right now, I have all the employees of my company login to an external website using the company id, username and a password. We are trying to integrate it into an intranet portal which should provide seamless access to this website without requiring the user to enter these credentials.
Is there any way of doing this programmatically (.NET C#)? Very similar to screenscraping, Can I simulate the appropriate POST action and then redirect the user to the logged in page?

I deployed a website where a logged user or an anonymous user can select data and download a XML file. The website generate the XML file in the server and then deliver it.
It works fine in my development environment, but after deployment, the anonymous user can download the file, but the logged user receive this error:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'd:HostsLocalUserheringerwebsiteUpload20110107094051.xml' is denied.
It is weird that as anonymous i can do it.
The website server help states this:
"Grant write, modify, delete access rights on website's folder
Your website executes under unique user account that by default has full control over the website's folder.
So your application can create, open, read, write and delete files and folders inside of your root folder.
There is no need and no way to change this permissions.
If, when running ASP.Net application, you still unable to create file or update it, you have to check your Web.Config file for "<Identity impersonate..." tag and remove it.
The only exception is when the application tries to modify a file or folder in "Application_Start" event of Global.asax file. This is by design that user authenticated only after the Application_Start even. Before the user is authenticated your website runs under an identity of Application Pool which is "Network services". That account doesn't have access to the folder of your website.
To make it work you eather have to move the code that tries to modify files or folders out of the "Application_Start" event of the Global.asax file or inside the event you'll need to impersonate your user by code."
But i am not using impersonate and the tag is not in my web.config.
Our users are only only allowed to log into our site from one location at a time. If they attempt to login from a second location, how do I log them out of the first location?

I created database on new server and it's working well - I can search for albums etc. The problem is when I am trying to register new user - I am getting error listed below (can't log in too). I have been creating a website using the SQLMembershipProvider. I have been using an administration account to create the back-end system for generating the users fine for about 2 weeks. I now have more users created and I can log in fine. However, when I log in as the newly created users, they can get to the page they are after, but if they refresh the page or redirect to another page, they get redirected to the login page. I have checked permissions, iis recycler, session state and security setting in my web.config (posted below) but nothing has fixed it. It cannot be IIS because it does it on my development machine as well as on the actual webserver and it works fine for the admin user.

I have used membership provider to implement my system. The system administrator can list the users. What I want to do is, administrator should be able to sign-in as the selected user. I can sign out administrator by FormsAuthentication.Signout but how can I sign in as the selected user? Passwords are hashed so I can not retrieve the passwords.

I also found documentatio on the provider itself. However, I cannot find anywhere example calls you have to make for the different actions within the web pages themselves. Where can I find that?

All I'm trying to do is pull the current user's login name from Active Directory. I've tried User.Identity.Name.ToString, which returned nothing at all. I tried Environment.UserName.ToString, Which returned "NETWORK SERVICE" which is not the firstname.lastname username that I was expecting.

The problem is that when a user logs in at first he is logged in as himself. When navigating on the web application for a while the user assumes the identity of another logged in user. This happens all the time. In my web.config the authentication mode looks like this:

The site does not use ASP.NET session variables. Instead each page initializes a Singleton class, which stores itself in a static class variable, always accessing the users data already read from the database. The Singleton implementation is:

Could the problem with assuming another logged in users "session" be related to static classes in my application or a Forms Authentication configuration or a configuration in IIS (e.g. is it possible for users to have their own process?).
I have a web application that initializes a third-party com application to perform few calculations. The website is deployed on a windows 2008 server (standard edition).
The problem I have been facing is that when I am logged in to the server (Remote Desktop Connection only as the server is not local), the com application initializes fine. But when I log-off or just close the remote desktop connection, the application doesn't get initialized. I have searched for a solution and found this:

I created the scheduled task as I didn't know how to create the windows service (the description at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192 is too confusing), and got the application to run when windows starts before even the user logs-in. But in even in this case, the application doesn't work unless the user is logged in and when I log-in, a second instance is created (with exactly the same user (admin)) and the original instance is never used.
I cannot get the application to run without logging off or atleast having to close the remote desktop connection.Is there anything I am doing wrong?

View 16 RepliesIn my application, I have users request accounts, and then an admin goes in to approve or reject the account. When the admin approves the account, the create user wizard is used. After the user is created, I set the new user's role, and update a few other items in my database for user tracking, and send out an email to notify the new user of their account status. Here's the kicker: Once this new user is created, the admin, is now logged in as the new user. How is this happening? And how do I stop it? My 3.5 app uses Forms Authentication. I create an authentication cookie (ticket) with an expiration date of one day. The cookie's IsPersistent is set to True. I do not use any session variables. Session timeout is the default 20 minutes.
Here's the problem:
When the session times out in 20 minutes, the user is redirected to the logon page even though the authentication cookie has not expired.
Why does this happen? I thought the session and the cookie were independent of each other.

View 8 RepliesI new to ASP.net and have created the registration form and login using the wizzard. This data is now stored in the relevent tables provided by asp. I also have created an extra table with profile information like address, phone number etc and a USer ID field that links with the aspnet_users table.
I am trying to display the details of the user when they log in so for example...
User logs on, clicks profile page, profile information can be added and viewed.
Now the problem is I am using a Select statement to get the data but when I do a Where statement im not sure what to put to basically say where userid = current user id logged on.
